Hearts System: 1000 Ways to Tell CEO I Love You-Chapter 43: Teach Someone a Lesson
Luellen didn’t have to open her social media accounts to see the chaos. Even as she stepped into the conglomerate, people gossiped loudly. However, none of them looked in her direction. Luellen felt torn. Should she be relieved that they didn’t mob her? In the back of her mind, she figured Shirley had done something again.
Otherwise, none of the attention would be kept from Luellen.
The maiden rode the elevator to the fifteenth floor. She inevitably saw familiar faces—people from the Sales Department. At their sharp side-eyes, Luellen realized her hindsight was correct again.
"Please hold that elevator!" A few more people rushed to get in. Since the elevator was wide enough to accommodate fifteen people, everyone just stepped back to give the new people some space.
Luellen shrank and pressed herself into the corner. However, one of Shirley’s friends backed into her and stepped on Luellen’s foot. The thin stiletto heel dug into Luellen’s shoe, more when it slipped past the topline. Luellen could only pull her foot back, making the other woman gasp and lose balance.
The woman glared behind her and barked, "Hey! Watch it! Are you trying to push me? This is a crowded elevator. If I get groped, it will be your fault! I will file a complaint against you!"
"Then don’t step on me." Luellen didn’t back down from her glare. "Be mindful where you put your feet."
"You talk too much for a dust-sized person." The other woman huffed. She only whipped her hair back, hitting Luellen’s face. "I can’t believe some people can’t just stay quiet. They’re so jealous of a colleague who is about to be a bigshot. Humph, the CEO’s office only had one intern in the company’s eyes. Stay small and invisible."
Luellen glared at the woman, but she didn’t want to argue anymore. She had more things to devote her energy to. It was just that...
One woman in front glanced behind her and asked her friend. Her voice wasn’t even soft. "One intern? They have two, right? One blonde and one brunette, right?"
The friend sharpened her gaze. However, she still answered, "Yep, there are two of them. Only one of them seems to be favored. In fact, I heard that Mr Wentworth had already proposed to her. After the merger, expect the higher-ups to prepare for another party!"
"Really? Oh, my God!" The woman gasped, only to frown a little. "But... aren’t the interns a little too young? I’m even older than that lady."
"What are you talking about? It’s the business world. It doesn’t matter if the groom is as old as the bride’s father. As long as it’s good for their business, they will go about it." The friend glanced behind her, catching all the gazes on her. "I heard the intern is actually the daughter of another CEO. No wonder Mr Wentworth likes her so much!"
The elevator opened to the Sales floor, but those who worked there didn’t want to get off. However, the others in front stepped out to let them leave. They just had to move without hearing more of the gossip.
The woman who stepped on Luellen got off, but she used her foot to block the doors from closing. She huffed. "What are you talking about? Shirley’s dad is not a CEO!"
"Oh, it’s because it’s not her." The friend stomped on the foot blocking the door. She huffed and pressed the close button. "Everyone in the higher floors knows Luellen Piper is Mr Wentworth’s girlfriend. How dare you mistake her for someone else?"
"You!" The Sales rep wanted to scream back, but the doors had already closed. Even when she tried to call the elevator back, the numbers changed.
Inside the elevator car, Luellen watched the other people who stayed. Her eyes were so big that horror was written all over. However, no one said anything. Even the two ladies stopped gossiping aloud. Soon, the elevator stopped at the fifteenth floor. Luellen could only race to the front to leave first.
She got out and stopped to see the other people leave. Her eyes caught the friend’s gaze, and she bowed a little. "Thank you for speaking up for me."
Some people flinched. The loud gossiper even gasped. It was only the friend who waved her hand and laughed. "It’s nothing, Ms Piper. The company’s raving about one thing over another. You should be more careful. Some girls will think you’re stealing from them. Also, you should remix your style. You’re so classy back at the party...
"Right now though..." The friend looked Luellen up and down. "You’re not giving Mrs Wentworth energy."
"I... I’ll try..." Luellen bowed lower and ran off to the other elevator. She pressed the close button, hoping to avoid them. However, the doors wouldn’t even close.
The group of employees saw the panicked look on Luellen’s face. However, they all stopped and bowed a little. Luellen noticed them, but a man walked across her gaze. No wonder the employees paused. Leander had gone to the elevator himself.
Leander glanced at the maiden and collected her hand from the button panel. "It won’t close any earlier. The operator knows I’m coming." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Luellen stepped back, watching the doors close slowly. Her face soon turned red upon realizing Leander was holding her hand. She screeched. "They can still see us!"
"So?" Leander chuckled. "Just turn away."
Turn away? Luellen instantly pouted. Leander did have his back on the closing doors. He didn’t have to worry about seeing their faces. The maiden only stepped back and leaned on the railing, hiding from the employees with elastic necks. Leander only turned and copied her when the gap was only an inch wide.
Three floors were not a long wait, but Luellen couldn’t help but wish for the elevator to open. However, she stared at Leander through his reflection. The CEO looked so cool and serious, busy with his phone even before the workday started. She soon calmed down and wore a small smile. This kind of silence felt rewarding.
When the doors opened, Leander got off first. However, he waited for Luellen and walked beside her. He didn’t say anything, either.
"Leander..." Luellen felt like saying his name without honorifics. She could also feel how Leander slowed his pace just to match hers. "Why are you here so early?"
"I’m going to teach someone a lesson."
Luellen flinched, but they had arrived at the office’s lobby. The CEO opened the door for her, shocking Luellen for a second. However, she picked herself up quickly upon realizing that Gala watched them from her desk. Luellen smiled at Leander and thanked him. She held her shoulder bag’s strap tighter and walked straight to the inner office.
It was just that Leander called her name. "Luellen, stay out here for now. Get comfortable on the couch."
Before Luellen could ask, Leander stood in front of Shirley’s desk. The other intern looked up at Leander’s glaring eyes. He then said, "Shirley, my office. Now."
