Heiress' Househusband is a Secret Billionaire-Chapter 353: They Were Raised Well
Chapter 353: They Were Raised Well
After reheating their takeouts, Lariette and Ruediger had dinner in the living room, sitting on the couch. The TV screen showed an old animated movie of their choice, currently playing a scene of the child protagonist chasing after the wicked orphanage director.
The movie was outdated, but beloved by people within the pair’s generations. It told the story of a young boy, abandoned by his parents at an orphanage which infamously known for missing children.
Despite his sorrow, the boy formed a new friendship with his fellow orphans. They vowed to uncover the mystery, which led to a crucial discovery.
The seemingly angelic orphanage director was a devil in disguise! He sold the orphans into slavery for money!
Narrowing her eyes, Lariette remarked, her voice so dissatisfied, "This bad guy is just like that chairman. Using people as he pleases. He never repents."
Ruediger chuckled upon hearing Lariette’s comment, amused as she lumped the villainous cartoon character with his estranged father. Her displeasure for that man was remarkably evident.
"Yeah, they’re similar," he wholeheartedly agreed, laughter still lacing his voice. Wanting to soothe her, he added, "Both will meet their bad endings."
Lariette huffed, then poked through the garlic butter shrimp on her plate using a fork as if impaling it. Grumbling, she complained further, "Hope his pillow stays hot all year long. Humph!"
Ruediger’s shoulders shook as laughter rumbled in his chest. Lifting his hand, he patted Lariette’s head, "Don’t worry. All the bad things will come his way."

Lariette impaled another shrimp. Frowning, she tossed it into her mouth. Ruediger laughed again, his knuckles grazing her puffing right cheek.
Her complaint might sound childish to others, but he liked to see her being angry on his behalf. She clearly despised that man as if she was the one being wronged.
Ruediger already had a plan in mind, on how to deter the Alvords from even trying to leech off him. Without any doubt, it would turn his estranged father’s face blue and red from too much anger.
’He won’t ever expect it coming.’
A smirk was drawn on Ruediger’s lips, and then his smile softened when Lariette tried to feed him a shrimp. He lightly pinched her soft cheek while taking a bite of the seafood.
After dinner, the pair continued watching the movie. Lariette nestled against Ruediger’s chest, his arms finding their place around her waist. He occasionally kissed her head, curling her lips into a smile.
The movie finally ended in half an hour, showing the heroic boy and his equally courageous friends being rewarded by the city mayor for solving the missing children case.
Because of the case, the kingdom monitored the orphanages more strictly. The final scene showed the grown-up protagonist working closely with charities for the betterment of children’s welfare.
"Eddy," Lariette called, her voice imbued with slight drowsiness, "Did you watch this movie with your mom? How many times?"
For some reason, the question crossed her mind. This movie came out when she was still very young. She watched it for the first time when she was around five years old.
One of her close neighbors invited all children to her home to watch the movie. At that time, not many villagers owned a TV and DVD player, thus her invitation was met with enthusiasm.
Back then, the little Lariette greatly enjoyed the movie, as well as admiring the heroic main character. She watched it a few times more throughout her childhood and adolescence.
Lariette’s question sparked a happy light in Ruediger’s eyes. Looking down at her, he reached for her hand, kissing her knuckles.
"Yes, I did. I couldn’t remember how many times. Mom also liked this movie. Hehe, she did complain when I dragged her to watch it thrice a week."
Lariette laughed, "Hahaha! You really liked that movie, en?"
"Yes, my dear," Ruediger kissed Lariette’s temple, his voice softer, "I remember telling my mom that I never wanted to be like those evil adults in that movie."
Tilting her chin up, Lariette beamed while looking into Ruediger’s eyes. She raised one hand, touching his defined jaw. Her smile was reflected in his gaze.
"You’re a good person, Eddy. Your mom will be so proud of you. She has raised you well."
His mother might leave the world unexpectedly, but her positive traces remained in him. She left behind her beloved child, beautiful in and out.
Lariette’s words gently touched Ruediger’s heart and coated it with honey, curling his lips into a beautiful arc. He peered into her countenance, only seeing her sincere affection in it.
"Yes, she really has raised me well," Ruediger nodded, "Aunt Felle too did the same. I can’t thank them enough. And... I can say the same to you. Your grandma has raised you well."
Lariette simply smiled, tears welling in her eyes and warmth flooding her heart. She chuckled when Ruediger played with her nose, they shared more playful time together.
Then, bedtime arrived.
The pair moved from the living room, going to Lariette’s bedroom instead of Ruediger’s. After preparing for bed, they lay under the same covers.
The clock ticked softly, echoing alongside the steady breathing of the pair huddling on the bed. The moon peeked over the clouds, watching over the city. At over eleven, it was still lively.
"Eddy," Lariette whispered, her eyes gazing at the subtle rise and fall of Ruediger’s chest as she nestled against him, "No need to prepare breakfast for me tomorrow. You should sleep more. I’ll do it instead."
Ruedige’s soft hum echoed above Lariette’s head. She felt his fingers tracing circles on her back, and then his lips met her forehead, leaving a warm sensation.
"Okay. I’ll let my dear pamper me tomorrow."
"Hehe, sleep. Stop talking."
Lariette closed her eyes, one hand resting on Ruediger’s chest. As she eventually drifted to sleep, she wondered how her life would be in the next few days.
One thing was for certain, she couldn’t ever pretend his absence wouldn’t affect her.
