Chapter 104: Four Alpha’s and a Lady

The morning sun over the Wolf Territory was cold. It bit at the skin in a way the swamp never did.

Qing Lin stood on the edge of the stone balcony, his fingers tracing the pulsing golden mark on his wrist. The life link. It hummed faintly, a reminder that his heartbeat was now synchronized with a Panther, a Tiger, a Wolf, and his female.

The goddess, he thought, his emerald eyes narrowing as he looked up at the clear blue sky. Mán Shū. Our creator.

It was a lot to process.

For centuries, they had believed they were simply beasts shaped by nature. To learn they were the result of a divine sibling rivalry... it was strange. And yet, looking at the golden barrier surrounding the fortress, looking at the life link on his wrist, he could not deny it.

He turned back to the courtyard below.

It was chaos.

Absolute chaos.

A Tiger warrior was currently sleeping on top of a Wolf’s stone bench, hogging the morning sun. A Panther was trying to cook raw meat on a Wolf’s ceremonial fire pit, arguing with a guard about "seasoning." And three Snake warriors were hanging from the rafters of the storage house because they claimed the ground was "too hard for their scales."

Cohabitation.

The Goddess had demanded they build a Neutral Zone. Instead, they had simply shoved four rival tribes into one fortress.

Qing Lin found it.....amusing. In a tedious way.

His mind drifted to the Wolf instructors who had been sent to Azure Scale weeks ago. Xin Yi had sent them to teach. And teach they had.

Qing Lin’s tribe had learned very quickly. Even Feng Huang’s and Hei Yan’s.Too quickly. They had adopted stone foundations. They had crafted leather armor. They had even begun to understand the concept of "storage" beyond just hoarding things in a pile. He loved it. He loved the civilization she brought. It proved her value. It proved she was more than just a mate to be claimed. She was an architect of worlds.

But.....

His hand tightened on the stone railing.

She didn’t want to return. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Sha Chen had claimed Xin Yi stayed voluntarily. Xin Yi had clarified she wasn’t ready to leave. There was a difference. But the sting remained. She was here. In the Wolf’s den. While he waited.

"Qing Lin."

The voice was soft.

He turned.

Xin Yi stood in the doorway of the guest quarters. She looked tired. There were shadows under her eyes, but she was alive. She was whole. She was wearing a Wolf tunic that was slightly too large for her, slipping off one shoulder.

"I have been looking for you," she said, walking toward him.

Qing Lin did not move. He let her come to him. He let her close the distance until she was standing right in front of him, and he could smell the soap on her skin. Lavender. And underneath that...Wolf scent.

His jaw tightened.

"You found me," he said quietly.

"I did." She looked up at him. Her eyes were dark. Expressive. Full of things she wasn’t saying.

Qing Lin reached out. His cool fingers brushed her cheek. She leaned into the touch, just slightly. That was all the permission he needed.

He lowered his head and kissed her.

It was not a gentle kiss. It was deep. A release of days of fear, of ache. He poured everything he had felt since the border into it. Since the moment he thought he lost her.

Xin Yi gasped against his lips. She was shocked. He felt her stiffen. But then.....she kissed him back. Her hands came up to grip his arms. Her fingers dug into his muscles. She surrendered.

When they separated, she was breathless. Her cheeks were flushed a brilliant pink. She turned her face away, hiding her expression. "Hmm."

Qing Lin smiled.

He leaned down, burying his face in the curve of her neck. He inhaled deeply. Then he licked. A slow stripe along her pulse point. Marking her. Covering the Wolf scent with his own.

Xin Yi shuddered. "Qing Lin..."

"I may be angry you didn’t come home when you could," he murmured against her skin. His voice was a low hiss. "But I ached for you. Every moment."

He licked her ear. She shivered again.

"Xiao Long misses you," he added softly.

Xin Yi sighed. Her shoulders slumped. "Hmm. I... I miss him too."

"He cries at night."

"Qing Lin—"

"He asks if you found a better snake."

"I didn’t—"

A loud scoff interrupted them.

Qing Lin didn’t need to turn around to know who it was.

Hei Yan.

Xin Yi turned around slowly. The Panther Alpha was standing near the steps, arms crossed over his chest. His purple eyes were dark.

"Thank you," Xin Yi said quietly to Hei Yan. "For.....coming."

Hei Yan’s jaw clenched. "Don’t tell me."

"Then—"

"I don’t want to hear whatever you have to say, Xin Yi," Hei Yan cut in. His voice was hurt. "You are still banished from Panther land. Do not forget that."

Qing Lin rolled his eyes. He stepped slightly in front of Xin Yi, shielding her. "Then why come to remind her? I didn’t force you to join us when we decided to claim her back."

Hei Yan bared his teeth. A low growl rumbled in his chest. "You’re the one that stole her from me."

Qing Lin flashed a grin. "I did."

Hei Yan growled louder. His claws extended, scraping against the stone floor. "You—"

"Stole it!" Xin Yi’s voice snapped them out of it.

Both Alphas froze. They looked at her.

Xin Yi sighed. She rubbed her temples. The golden mark on her wrist glowed brighter, reacting to her stress. "Two of you! Just stop!"

She pointed a finger at Hei Yan. Then at Qing Lin.

"Or else!"

The Alphas flinched.

[DING! (≧▽≦)]

[HOST’S AUTHORITY LEVEL: MAXIMUM!]

[ALPHAS SUBMISSIVE TO FEMALE’S WRATH!]

[THIS IS PEAK HAREM DYNAMICS!]

Xin Yi ignored the System. She took a deep breath. "Regardless, thank you Hei Yan for coming to save me. Come now. Let’s discuss this with Sha Chen. We need to plan the Neutral Zone. Not fight over.....over territory markers."

She turned and started walking toward the main hall.

Qing Lin followed immediately. Hei Yan hesitated, then followed too, stalking behind them like a shadow.

They reached the main courtyard. Sha Chen was already there.

The Wolf Alpha looked...rested. But wary. He was standing near a table covered in blueprints. He looked up as they approached. His white eyes flicked to Xin Yi. Then to Qing Lin. Then to Hei Yan.

The air grew heavy.

"And where is the Tiger?" Sha Chen asked dryly.

"Right here!"

Feng Huang stumbled out from behind a pillar. He looked pale. He was holding a cup of water with shaking hands. He still looked slightly traumatized by everything that had happened.

"I recovered," Feng Huang announced weakly. He leaned against the wall for support. "Mostly."

Xin Yi stopped in the center of the courtyard.

She looked around.

Sha Chen was to her left.

Qing Lin was to her right.

Hei Yan was behind her.

Feng Huang was.....leaning on Qing Lin’s shoulder because he was still dizzy.

Four Alphas.

All looking at her.

All waiting for her to speak.

All connected to her by a golden life link that pulsed in time with her own heartbeat.

Xin Yi’s eyes widened. She looked at the System screen that popped up in her vision.

[DING! (⊙_⊙)]

[SCENARIO: THE CAGE OF ALPHAS!]

[HOST IS SURROUNDED!]

[ESCAPE PROBABILITY: 0%!]

Xin Yi swallowed hard.

Uh oh.
