Fyrex licked its lips as the smell of roasted meat hit its nose. All it wanted to do right now was dig in on the flesh of its first kill as a Feral Grade Monster.

However, it restrained itself as it knew that whatever it hunted belonged to its Alpha and it didn’t want to disrespect Xavier by eating the hyena before Xavier permitted it.

Speaking of Xavier it wondered where he was when...

"YAAARRKK!!"

"...!"

Fyrex looked around completely alert as it heard the scream of another hyena. It first looked at the hyena it killed and saw that it was already dead.

"...!"

Fyrex came to a realization as it went to where Xavier was. It started to panic as it was going there.

"...!"

It saw that Xavier wasn’t there nor were its fellow wolves.

"Grr..."

It gritted its teeth as it moved toward the source of the sound. Fear gripped its heart as it thought of the worst.

As it neared the area, it saw something that made its fur stand up.

"...!"

Blood was on the ground that it was running on and broken and crushed trees were all over the place.

Shake shake

However, Fyrex swiftly pulled itself out of it as it continued to make its way.

The stench of blood hitting its nose was only getting stronger and heavier as it kept going.

Rustle rustle

"...!!"

It finally reached the place as it saw an unbelievable sight in front of it.

Sitting atop a grotesque pile of mangled corpses, one as big as its own body and the same features as the hyena it had killed except this one did not have a head nor the mace in its tail, Xavier was covered in blood from head to toe.

All around him, his newly claimed wolf pack was engaged in their own grotesque feast. The wolves—each one caked in blood and grime—were hunched over their respective kills, tearing into the flesh of the monsters they had brought down. Their muzzles were stained red, jaws working rhythmically as sinew and muscle were ripped from bone with sickening crunches and wet slurps.

Some of the wolves bore injuries—gashes across their flanks, bruised ribs, a torn ear here and there—but none of them had fallen. They had survived the encounter, and now they feasted like victors in the aftermath of a brutal war. Despite their wounds, not a single one had died.

It was a scene of savage triumph. And Xavier, blood-soaked and silent atop his throne of corpses, looked every bit the monster that had led them there.

"Hmm?" Xavier raised his eyebrows as he heard footsteps nearing him.

He looked down and saw that it was Fyrex. Seeing that it was here and was relatively unharmed Xavier realized that it had won its battle against the Mace Tail Hyena.

"Oh? Fyrex? How did the battle go? Was it easy? Or did you go all out?" Xavier asked even though Fyrex didn’t know the human language.

However, he knew Fyrex being a Feral Grade Monster now had a higher intelligence than before when it was still an Ungraded Monster.

Nod

Fyrex nodded its head. Even when it was just an Ungraded Monster, its intelligence could be said to be comparable to Feral Grade Monsters. Now that it was a Feral Grade Monster itself, its intelligence increased by a significant margin and it could also understand Xavier much more easily.

"Good. I’m impressed. I knew you could do it." Xavier praised.

"Then, I need you to do one last thing." Xavier said as he stood up.

"I need you to-"

Whoosh

"Rrarf!"

Xavier fell down as he lost his balance. Luckily, Fyrex came in between and he fell on its back.

Watching what had happened, the rest of the wolves also quickly came forward, feeling worried for their Alpha’s health as they were the only ones who knew the type of battle that had transpired in this place.

"... take control for me."

As soon as he said that, Xavier fell unconscious and entered a dream. In the dream he saw the battle he had just fought.

Xavier, hiding in the bushes, saw the fight between Fyrex and the Mace Tail Hyena.

’It seems more like a one sided beatdown.’ He thought as he saw Fyrex whoop the Mace Tail Hyena’s ass literally with its own two fiery tails.

’Hmm?’

Xavier raised an eyebrow as he noticed something.

’Look at that will you, it seems the hyena is a she.’

’Then with her also being a Level 3 Feral Grade Monster would probably make her the strongest hyena in the outskirts region of the Periculous Forest.’

’She’s definitely strong enough to be the Matriarch of a Pack of Hyenas.’

’Who knows? Perhaps she is a Matriarch and probably separated from its pack as soon as it smelt the stench of the Scorching Bear’s corpse, and since its clan members are weaker than it, they’re taking a while to catch up.’

’Hmm... but what’s taking the wolves so long to reach this place? It’s already been over the 40 seconds I estimated for them to arrive at this location.’

’Huh?’

He finally realized.

’Shit!’

Xavier inwardly cursed as he ran back in the direction he came from.

His feet turned slightly blue under his trousers as it pulsed with Aether and as he ran in top speed.

"Ooowoo~!"

Xavier heard the cry of a wolf as he changed direction and made his way to the source.

"Hap!"

He jumped on top of a tree as he made his way. Another reason for running and jumping on trees was because it’d be much faster and he could get a clear view from afar without the need to expose himself to the enemies and plan out a strategy on how to counter them.

Within seconds, he reached the place and saw that the wolves were engaged in a combat with the hyenas.

’Shit! It’s just as I expected. There indeed was a pack of hyenas.’

Xavier saw the fight go on but didn’t intervene yet as he tried to gain vital information.

’30 Hyenas, all Ungraded and even the strongest among them being only Level 8. The Wolves on the other hand have a Level 9 Ungraded among them however, it seems to be engaged in a battle with...’

"Rrraarrf!"

"Yehaark!"

"Aaarf!"

"... a Level 2 Feral Grade Mace Tail Hyena." He voiced out.

’However, it is not a battle between the two, the Feral Grade Mace Tail Hyena is just toying with it. It can kill it and all the wolves whenever it wants.’

’Killing it is going to be much more difficult than killing the Scorching Bear since it isn’t injured.’

’Even if I do tango with it, the other hyenas will do whatever they can to distract me and create an opening for the Feral Grade Monster to kill me. It’s especially the case since they outnumber my wolves.’

’Hmm. I can try taking down the weaker hyenas first and mow down their numbers but, the moment the Feral Hyena notices me, a human, it will drop all things and come for my neck along with its stooges. Although I can use that chance to order the wolves to run away, I doubt they’d do that considering their loyalty, and even if they did, I am not confident in taking down the entire hyena pack all by myself.’

If it was just killing the Feral Hyena then Xavier could’ve done it. But if it’s about taking on an entire pack along with the Feral Hyena, that was above the current Xavier’s paycheck.

’Tch, this is annoying, I need to quickly think of a way to counter that Feral Hyena. Otherwise, who knows when it gets tired of playing and just decides to kill everyone?’

’Huh?’

Xavier’s eyes landed on a small tree.

"Keh~"

His lips curled as he let out a small chuckle as he thought of a plan.

’You’re so dead.’

Meanwhile, the Feral Hyena was slowly getting bored as it smacked the Level 9 Ungraded Wolf with its claws for the umpteenth time.

The Level 9 Ungraded Wolf was bruised badly, it had claw marks all over its body as blood dripped down from the areas it had been wounded in.

"Grr... grr..."

However, no matter how many times the Feral Hyena knocked it down on the ground, it would always get up as it knew that until Xavier or Fyrex returned, the fate of the pack rested on its shoulders. It didn’t want to disappoint its Alpha no matter what.

The Feral Hyena initially liked the wolf’s tenacity and perseverance but it was now getting annoying.

The Feral Hyena swiped its claws at the wolf again. This time with a bit more strength. The Ungraded Wolf fell back down once again. It tried to get up but was finally unable to anymore. It saw the Feral Hyena’s figure loom over it, casting a shadow.
