Chapter 39: We Won’t Be The Same Again

Ryan looked at his brother and wanted to say something but he couldn’t. Even though his brother was currently beside him, he still felt distant. πšπ•£π•–πšŽπš πšŽπš‹πš—π¨π―π•–π•.π•”π¨π•ž

"What about the man Eliana killed?" Zach suddenly asked.

"Due to the tattoo on his arm, I’m guessing he is from a gang, and by the end of today, I will know which gang. His phone has been given to someone to remove the password, so by tomorrow, I will have it."

"And the body?"

"Already taken care of. I have asked the police to stay out of the matter so they won’t be a nuisance." Ryan said. He looked at his brother, who had suddenly gone silent, and finally asked, "Are you okay?"

"I can’t face her. I promised her that I would protect her and our baby and I couldn’t do it."

"It wasn’t your fault. Don’t put that burden on you, Zach. Immediately you noticed something was amiss, you searched for her."

"She won’t be the same again, we won’t be the same again. With all the money and power I have, I couldn’t protect my child." Tears left Zach’s eyes as he spoke, "I can still remember his little heartbeat, Ryan; I can still hear it."

Ryan clenched his hands tightly as even his eyes became watery. He knew how much that baby meant to Zach and now it was gone. He could still remember how excited Zach was when he showed him and their mother a picture of the ultrasound. It’s funny that just yesterday night, they were happy, and now, everything has become a mess.

Ryan suddenly felt a droplet of water on his hand and looked at the sky. Soon enough, those few droplets turned into a heavy rainfall. Ryan’s gaze moved to his brother, who didn’t even make any attempt to leave and decided to stay with him. It was as if even the sky was mourning the death of little treasure.

.....

Two days later

Moore Mansion

"This is driving me insane, Mom. Mason doesn’t know where his friend is and there is no news on Eliana. Even Jason has been trying to reach her but still nothing." Amber said anxiously.

"Will you relax and stop pacing? You are going to give me a headache and lower your voice. What if your dad hears you?"

Ignoring her mother, Amber continued speaking "She isn’t dead. If she was then it would have been on the news already."

"What do you mean by she isn’t dead? Did you ask Mason to kill her?" Sloane asked with a frown

Amber, realizing the words she had said, immediately turned to her mother and said, "No, of course not. I was just saying that since there has been no news on her for two days now, it must mean that nothing has happened to her."

"Or it could be that the Sanders are hiding something, maybe we should pay a visit to them," Sloane said.

Amber heart suddenly skipped a beat at the thought of seeing Zachary. Ever since that dinner night when they all found out about Eliana’s pregnancy, Zach had also completely blocked her from his life. It was like she suddenly became a stranger to him.

Sloane’s phone suddenly rang, bringing Amber from her thoughts. She watched as her mother answered the call saying, "If it isn’t my precious son-in-law."

Amber frowned when she heard that. Why was Zach calling?

"The hospital? Tell me what happened to her?" Sloane asked anxiously.

"I have been trying to reach her since yesterday but I never expected that something like this would have happened to my poor girl. Yes, I know where it is, I will be right there." Sloane said and ended the call.

"What did he say?" Amber asked immediately her mother ended the call.

"He said Eliana is in the hospital and she needs me," Sloane said with a smile.

"What does that mean?"

"It means Eliana is no longer pregnant for Zach. She has lost the baby, and I am sure of this."

.....

"Are you sure you made the right decision by calling Sloane?" Charlotte asked, looking at her son that hasn’t slept for days.

"What else do you want me to do? Eliana hasn’t spoken or eaten for two days. She just quietly stares at the ceiling, and the doctor keeps saying that she may need professional help."

"Sloane isn’t a professional help," Charlotte stated.

"Sloane is her mother, and Eliana has always craved love from that woman, so maybe she can help her by showing her that she is there for her," Zach said helplessly. He was truly at a lost end.

Ever since Eliana woke up, the first thing she did was place a hand on her belly, and after that, she refused to say anything or even eat anything. She wouldn’t even look at him and whenever he came to the room, she would turn to the side and it made him feel even more guilty about his inability to protect her and their child.

Half an hour later, Sloane rushed into the hospital with Ethan by her side because he had waited for her to bring her directly to Eliana’s wards.

She saw Zach and Ryan outside the ward and rushed to them, asking, "Is she okay?"

Ryan looked at Zach and said, "I will go get a cup of coffee and also find Mom. I wonder where she wandered off to."

Zach nodded to his brother and said to Sloane "The doctor said she is depressed because..... because she lost the baby. Eliana has not eaten or spoken for two days, so I called you because I know deep within you still matter to her, and maybe you will able to help her."

"Of course, I will able to help her. I am her mother, and I may not have been the best mother to her, but I care about her, and I have loved her in my way. Can I go in to see her?" Sloane asked, acting impatient to comfort her daughter.

"Yes," Zachary said and thought to himself that maybe calling Sloane wasn’t a bad idea after all.
