Herald of Steel-Chapter 1572: Alexander’s Proposal (Part-6)
"What is the use of the ice, brat?" Finally running out of patience, Pasha Farzah asked the question in a very pointed tone, clenching his jaws in a way Alexander had rarely heard.
Thus feeling he had aggravated the old man enough, Alexander did not play coy.
He gave a gentle grin and very directly informed, "It is very simple. Instead of the wine, I want to use the ice to deliver the poison, my lord…."
"....???" The words instantly sent a thunderous chill down Pasha Farzah's spine. He was of course a very smart man, thus he could get an inkling of what Alexander was alluding to just from this hint.
It was just that he was unwilling to believe such a ridiculous possibility.
While Alexander gave a small, sly grin sensing the man's turmoil raging in his heart, feeling quite smug by the sight. The fact that his words did this made his heart become filled with a certain sense of accomplishment.
But before continuing, he slowly turning to look at three sisters standing nearby, producing a complicated look.
He was unsure whether to let them hear this or not. After all, this was quite a devious method if he said so himself, and he was afraid of the girls letting their mouths slip.
This would not only cause such a potent method to spread, but more than that, it risked getting traced back to Alexander.
He did not want to think of the consequences of that- the nobles and more importantly the 'love stricken' Ptolomy would surely cause a lot of trouble.
"Please allow us to excuse ourselves, my lords,"
Fortunately for Alexander, the cleverest of them, Lady Ezaya instantly understood his dilemma without him needing to utter even a word. And proposed to immediately make themselves scarce, although much to both her younger siblings' reluctance.
Especially the recently joined Lady Anisha, her eyes were swimming with intense dejection and curiosity- after having come so into the story, she could not believe she would get to hear the end of it.
It made her heart itch like mad, thus sending her elder sister an aggrieved glare.
"Ahhh… no need, my lady. I will actually need your help if I am to do this anyway!"
And henceforth, Alexander's answer instantly made the well build girl's face light up, causing her to pump her fist in glee and letting her perk her ears with the utmost enthusiasm.
"I was thinking of dissolving the poison into the water and turning them into ice. Then we will serve these poisoned ice cubes with the drinks. You said that Lord Assazd's bodyguards check the drinks for poison, right? So we will not tamper with it.:
"Rather… if we put poison in the ice… when the bodyguards drink it at the very beginning, they will find nothing. The solid cubes will contain the poison inside themselves. But then when Lord Assazder starts to slowly drinks it later, the ice will slowly melt and…."
Alexander did not need to finish his words as he saw Pasha Farzah's eyes become the size of pinpricks and the three sisters beside him all had their faces turn as white as paper.
"..." In fact, there was such a grave wall of silence that Alexander thought he could even hear the throbbing heart beats of the four utterly shocked man and women.
The exact thought Pasha Farzah had felt too scared to contemplate had indeed come true.
"You.. you brat.. This…I…. really have no words" And thus, even when Pasha Farzah tried to speak, he found himself stuttering.
This realization shocked the old man perhaps even more than Alexander's plan because he could not remember the last time someone as powerful as him had lost his composure.
So finally he gave up on that, and slamming his back into the chair, he simply chuckled at last, "Hahaha, if he had you boy, he could have killed Alozmer five years earlier."
Pasha Farzah did not bother to sing praises of the idea or exclaim how talented or divinely gifted Alexander, because that sentence trumped those superfluous expletives.
To have the skill to kill the god king within half the time it took him… was the greatest certificate of respect in Pasha Farzah's eyes.
"Haha, my lord is being too generous. I am merely a junior possessing little skill. But I am glad to see my lord approves. Hopefully the weather will stay its course the next few days."
Getting the go ahead from his strongest ally, Alexander gave a pleased grin and uttered some pleasant words of gratitude, while his heart felt half the weight being lifted off in immense relief.
Since Pasha Farzah could not find any major flaws, Alexander figured the plan to be also rock solid.
His greatest concern now was the temperature as he really wished the scorching heat that was currently sweeping Adhan would actually last a time longer. Because obviously he could not serve ice cubes once winter hit.
Thus even though it was currently around 35 degrees celsius or close to 100 degrees fahrenheit, and he regularly sweated around noon, he still wished for the temperature to continue if not increase.
"I will have Assazd meet you tomorrow." Understanding Alexander's concern's Pasha Farzah instantly promised so from the other side. Since it was already autumn, the old man like Alexander feared the weather might turn wintery mild any second.
So as soon as Alexander made the demand, he promised to lend a helping hand, making it also very apparent he could not wait to spit on Lord Assazd's grave.
"Ahhh… my lord, I will still need to prepare the poison." However fortunately Alexander had his wits about himself, and the calmer of the pair gently asked the bellicose man to hold his horses.
"....." It instantly made Pasha Farzah go red. He could not believe he had gotten so excited that he forgot such a simple step. Thus quickly straightening his back, he imperously promised, "I will have the ice room and poison prepared at once. Do not worry, no one will know what you did. The guards will be my own."
"Thank you, Lord Farzah!" Alexander gave a small grateful vow, before turning to give the three ladies a gentle look, "My ladies, I hope you will lend me your hand when the time comes. I will depend on you to pour the drinks and ice correctly. We will discuss the exact details further in our free time."
Lady Ezaya and Lady Elia were extremely quick to nod their show of support. While the most mischievous of the trio, Anisha noted with a teasing grin,
"Ohhh… please do not use ever such devilish methods against us, Lord Alexander. We will be good little girls."
The pouting, slightly exaggerated way of saying this quickly got a small chuckle from all the rest, with Lady Ezaya adding,
"Ummm right, right, it is certainly fortunate we have Lord Alexander with us!" and even the eternally quiet Lady Elia sounded her voice as a show of her utmost appreciation,
"I would have never been able to think of this in a million years. Truly you are a genius, Lord Alexander. Mother's praise did not do enough justice."
Alexander only replied with a sheepish humble smile, knowing it was not exactly his idea. The melting ice cube trick was part of various TV series and books for decades.
Thus he pretended to neither take credit nor outright reject these praises, although this inadvertently made him even more humble and attractive to the girls.
If they had been merely impressed by Alexander's talk the prior night, now they were a bit smithen.
"Lord Farzah, I will hopefully be able to kill Lord Assazd within this week… if the gods are willing. I suggest you be ready to capitalize on that instantly. It would be a grave mistake to lose control of the court twice."
Alexander then went on to remind Pasha Farzah of the great work that was laid for them even if they took out the main mastermind, such as dealing with the man's leftover faction.
Surely those nobles that followed him and are trying to cozy up to Ptolomy would not dissolve to dust just because their leader died. They would choose another to lead, perhaps from Lord Assad's lineage, perhaps another noble lord.
"You not need to remind me boy. You just kill that snake… I will handle the rest."
The Lord of Matrak was there to instantly reply to Alexander's warning, his eyes burning with rage and vengeance.
He never got to move against Lord Assazd's faction because the man, with the help of Ptolomy managed to shield them so well.
However once this bulwark was gone, he planned to rip it from limb to limb. Alexander did not know this because he was not that well acquainted, but Lord Assazd had no equal or even someone comparable in his faction.
And this was very reasonable.
After all, as a man of extreme ambition, how could he allow someone else to share power or even remotely challenge him?
The man was very determined to run the show as a single man.
"That is good!" Alexander's heart felt gladdened seeing Pasha Farzah's reaction, reassured that he had not lost his fighting spirit, so he turned his attention to the last bit of bump,
"What about the newest concubine His Majesty has taken. I heard she is Lord Assazd's youngest daughter. And she is trying to usurp Her Highness."
"Don't worry. I will arrange an assassin for her. That will be child's play."
