High School of Demon Hunting-Chapter 2401 - 622: Three Bloodlines, Two Analyses
"Is there a way to remove that Copper Bean?"
Jiang Yu, who had been silent all along, finally couldn’t ignore the flirtation between the Big Fox and a certain Warlock. She broke the silence that enveloped the room after the glass shattered and sincerely turned to Professor Montreya.
The professor glanced at her in surprise.
"Why must it be removed?" His eyes held a hint of confusion as he turned to Zheng Qing. "Has that Copper Bean caused you any harm so far?"
"It..."
Zheng Qing said just one word and got stuck.
Indeed.
Aside from accidentally crushing a few chairs and breaking some cups and bowls, the Copper Bean hasn’t caused him any significant harm so far.
On the contrary, its presence actually helped Zheng Qing avoid the risk of getting lobotomized by a certain Flying Centipede—of course, the Warlock suspected that even without the Copper Bean, that little centipede probably wouldn’t be able to suck out his brain juice, since a fiercer Little Green Snake was nestled in his head.
But it is ultimately a foreign object.
Unlike those pathological alchemists with a fanatic self-modification spirit, Zheng Qing preferred original, matching parts over stuffing random things into his body.
Even though the Copper Bean appears harmless thus far.
"Currently harmless, but curses that suddenly erupt at a certain point in the future and cause long-term harm to a wizard’s body or soul are not uncommon."
As another Big Wizard present, Su Shijun’s words were evidently more persuasive. "I’ve dealt with those Ravens and seen their experimental subjects. The tentacles and eyeballs on their bodies are not merely simple bloodline modifications but include very dangerous Starry Sky Pollution... We cannot ignore such risks."
Pollution from the Starry Sky is nothing short of poison for wizards on the orthodox path, and any ambitious wizard would prevent problems before they arise concerning this.
Professor Montreya shook his head.
"For other ordinary wizards, indeed this might be a risk." He stared unwaveringly into Zheng Qing’s eyes, speaking softly. "But for Zheng Qing... I lean more towards believing this is an opportunity."
Before his words could settle, he raised his hand and snapped his fingers.
Snap!
Three finger-thick ice spikes silently appeared in mid-air and, before anyone could react, descended swiftly, stabbing into Zheng Qing’s chest, back, and the center of his forehead.
Crunch!
Crack!
Under the intense glare of two angry witches, the three ice spikes stopped at the Warlock’s skin, breaking inch by inch, and immediately crumbled into a sparkling sheet of ice crystals.
Only then did Zheng Qing have the time to blink.
"What did you do?" Jiang Yu exclaimed in shock.
But before the witches could continue their questioning, Professor Montreya felt compelled to explain—of course, much of this initiative stemmed from the four huge fox tails that appeared suddenly in the living room, swirling around everyone.
"The renowned bloodline researcher Alfred White once said that inferior bloodlines will conflict with the body, excellent bloodlines will help the body remove impurities, and great bloodlines will ignite the fire of potential, melting all truths in the world."
Faced with the witches’ furious gazes, the professor had to slightly quicken his pace. "Last year, while helping Zheng Qing with a body check, I discovered a hidden immense power within him. I don’t know the source of that power. But I know some high-tier bloodlines that are pure to a certain degree will exhibit similar phenomena.
In a certain sense, we can interpret it as an undiscovered, latent bloodline.
And after a year of growth, perhaps based on Zheng Qing’s mastery of magical knowledge, or just a simple trigger of a certain opportunity, the bloodline hidden in his body has been developed. When the Ravens’ Copper Bean entered his body, it was immediately melted and absorbed by the bloodline power from his body... Thus, reinforcing his physical body and causing an explosive growth in his body’s strength and power."
By now, the professor’s meaning was quite clear.
He discreetly let out a sigh of relief.
The swirling massive fox tails had silently vanished at some point, while the three young wizards were all frowning, seemingly digesting the analysis he’d just provided.
"You mean to say that the power within Zheng Qing is some kind of latent, great bloodline?" Su Shijun crossed her arms, examining Zheng Qing thoughtfully. "’Great bloodlines can melt everything,’ so whether it’s the inferior bloodlines used by the Ravens for modification or pollution from the Starry Sky, it will be melted and absorbed by the power within him?"
"More or less." The professor reluctantly nodded.
But after pausing, he couldn’t help but clarify: "Those bloodline seeds modified by the Ravens aren’t necessarily inferior. The tentacles or eyeballs grown on the test subjects’ bodies are more likely because the ordinary test subjects can’t bear the aftereffects of high-tier bloodline implantation... In other words, their spiritual power is insufficient, their consciousness cannot fully control their bodies, resulting in physical mutations... Of course, this is just my guess."
Perhaps realizing he had said too much, the professor stopped analyzing further.
His phrase ’the consciousness cannot fully control the body’ seemed to spark a bit of inspiration in Jiang Yu.
"Because the body can’t handle it?"
The witch showed a thoughtful expression, speaking slowly. "I remember Brother Qing mentioning that his eyes bleeding was an aftereffect of head issues. The head issues were due to high spiritual power and a weak body. If what you said is true, and that Copper Bean is some kind of high-tier bloodline seed that can strengthen a wizard’s body... then the reason he hasn’t grown tentacles now might be because his spiritual power is very high, and his consciousness can withstand the body’s degree of mutation."
The implication was that if, at some future point, the body’s growth exceeded the spiritual scope of control, Zheng Qing’s body would still undergo uncontrollable mutations.
And according to Professor Montreya’s explanation, that Copper Bean had already been melted and absorbed by the ’unknown great bloodline,’ so it couldn’t be found, nor would it cause further trouble in the future.
The two explanations weren’t greatly different; the only conflict was likely in their views on the safety of that Copper Bean.
Zheng Qing looked left and right.
A family’s matters are known best by oneself.
He knew that there shouldn’t be any strange bloodlines within him, just a recently germinated forbidden curse seed. But such matters can never be explained to others.
Yet, Professor Montreya’s analysis seemed to coincide oddly with that Little Green Snake; the ’bloodline seed’ forcibly inserted into him by the Ravens was more like a tonic pill, able to strengthen his body and match consciousness with the physical body better.
After accepting this, everything else seemed peripheral.
