Chapter 25 - He Kissed Me

Chapter 26- He kissed me

Tyler's POV

My fingers tightened around the steering wheel as frustration boiled inside me.

Why?

Why me of all people?

And what the hell was going on with Amara?

She wasn't acting like this earlier today—what changed? She was shouting from the backseat like a lunatic, her voice grating against my nerves.

I gritted my teeth, trying to focus on the road, but she wouldn't stop.

I slammed my hand against the wheel. "Amara, shut the fuck up!" I snapped. "Either you sit there quietly and let me drive you home like you asked, or I'll pull over and you can find another damn ride!"

She went silent immediately, though I could hear her muttering under her breath. I didn't care. As long as she wasn't screaming.

Beside me, Logan was quiet.

I exhaled, trying to calm myself. "Should I drop you off first or take her home?" I asked, my voice softer now.

Logan sighed. "I think we should take her home first."

I frowned. "Her place is closer to mine. If I drop her off first, I'd have to drive all the way back to drop you off. That's way too stressful."

The fact that I was even explaining myself to him irritated me. A few minutes ago, I would've told him to shut up, but now...

I kept my eyes on the road, lost in thought, when Logan suddenly shouted—

"Tyler, watch out!"

My head snapped up, and my stomach dropped.

Up ahead, a group of men stood in the middle of the road. Guns in their hands.

My grip on the wheel tightened as my pulse skyrocketed.

My voice shook. "I think we should turn around."

"We can't." Logan said and my throat felt dry as I glanced in the rearview mirror. More men were behind us.

A cold shiver ran down my spine.

We were trapped.

Amara started crying. "Are we being ambushed?"

"How the hell should I know, Amara?!" I snapped. "I was in the car with you when this started!"

She gasped between sobs. "Are we going to die?"

I clenched my jaw. "You know what? If anything's going to kill us, it's your constant crying and talking, not the damn bullets!"

My heart pounded against my ribs. My mind raced. Why was this happening now?

My father.

He had just come back into my life. Was this connected to him? Did someone find out I was his son?

Logan's hand suddenly rested on my thigh. "Tyler, take a deep breath."

I turned to him, startled. His touch was warm, grounding. His voice was steady, calm.

"You need to calm down," he said firmly. "If you panic, we'll get into an accident before they even catch us."

I swallowed hard, inhaling sharply.

"Good," Logan murmured. "Now listen to me."

I nodded, my mind clearing slightly.

"If we turn around, they'll block us before we can escape. Our best chance is to go through them."

I stared at him like he'd lost his mind.

"What?" Amara shrieked. "Are you crazy? They have guns!"

Logan didn't even look at her. "Shhh, Amara. Adults are talking."

I almost laughed despite the situation.

Logan turned back to me. "Drive straight at them. Don't slow down. If you go fast enough, they'll have no choice but to move."

My breath hitched. "And if they start shooting?"

"They will," Logan admitted. "Which is why we'll all keep our heads down. If they can't aim properly, they won't hit us."

He looked at both me and Amara. "Do you understand?"

We both nodded, fear tightening my chest.

For a split second, I wondered—how does Logan know all of this? Has he been in a situation like this before?

But now wasn't the time to ask.

Logan's voice was sharp. "Three... two... one! Go!"

I slammed my foot on the gas pedal.

The tires screeched as the car shot forward, the engine roaring.

All three of us ducked, our heads low.

Gunshots exploded in the night.

Bullets ricocheted off the car, the metallic clangs sending chills down my spine.

I gritted my teeth, keeping my hands firm on the wheel. Faster, faster, faster.

The gunmen jumped out of the way just in time.

We made it through.

But my relief was short-lived.

"They're following us!" I shouted, glancing at the mirror.

Black SUVs were speeding after us, headlights flashing like hunting eyes in the dark.

"Logan!" I yelled.

"Turn left, now!" Logan ordered.

I obeyed instantly, swerving onto a narrow road. The car jolted violently, tires skidding, but I kept control.

"Take the next right—now!"

I turned again, heart hammering.

Another turn. Then another.

And then—silence.

No more headlights behind us.

No more gunfire.

We lost them.

I exhaled shakily, my hands still trembling on the wheel.

Logan sat back in his seat, breathing hard but still calm.

Amara was completely silent now, her body shaking.

I drove in silence, my mind racing, I needed to get Logan home now and get myself home.

Remind me never to go to a night party again.

Minutes later, I pulled up in front of his place.

"We are here," I said to him

"Thanks for the ride," Logan muttered, stepping out.

He was halfway to his door when I noticed something glinting on the ground.

His watch.

I grabbed it and jumped out. "Logan, wait!"

Logan's POV

The moment I heard Tyler's voice, I froze.

My hands trembled slightly as I turned back.

What now?

Tyler jogged up to me, holding something out. "I think you dropped this."

I glanced at my wrist—empty.

Relief washed over me.

It was just my watch.

I took it from him, nodding. "Thanks."

I turned to leave, but—

"Logan."

I stopped.

My heart pounded against my ribs.

Slowly, I turned back. "Yeah?"

Tyler hesitated, then exhaled. "Thank you. For tonight."

I blinked.

He was thanking me?

A slow smile tugged at my lips. "You're welcome."

Tyler stepped closer.

Too close.

I swallowed hard. My breath hitched as his scent filled my lungs—clean, warm, something uniquely him.

What is he doing?

And then—

His lips were on mine.

Soft. Warm.

Real.

My entire body froze.

For a second, my mind couldn't process it. Tyler—Tyler—was kissing me.

I had imagined it a hundred times. A thousand. But never—not even in my wildest dreams—did I think Tyler was ever going to kiss me

His lips moved against mine, hesitant but firm, like he wasn't sure if he should but couldn't stop himself.

A shiver ran down my spine.

I wanted to move, to kiss him back, but my body was still catching up with reality.

Then, just as suddenly as it happened—

He pulled away.

We stared at each other.

Tyler's eyes were wide, his breath uneven. Like he couldn't believe what he just did.

Neither could I.

A thousand thoughts raced through my mind, but all I could focus on was the lingering warmth of his lips on mine.

He opened his mouth—then shut it.

And without another word—

He turned and walked away.

Leaving me standing there, my entire world shattered and rebuilt in a single breath.
