Chapter 37- Threatened

Tyler's POV

I couldn't hold back anymore. My body moved before my mind could catch up, stepping out from where I had been hiding.

The second Declan and his guard noticed me, their bodies stiffened. Their eyes widened in shock, like two criminals caught in the act.

A thick silence filled the air, and for a moment, neither of them spoke. Then Declan, my so-called father, swallowed hard, his Adam's apple bobbing nervously. His expression shifted from surprise to panic, and I could see the gears turning in his head, trying to come up with an excuse.

"How long have you been standing there?" he finally asked, his voice low and cautious.

I folded my arms across my chest, glaring at him with all the disgust I could muster. "Long enough," I said, my voice like ice. "Long enough to know that you lied to me. Long enough to know you never took my mother to that apartment. Long enough to hear you say you don't care about her at all."

Declan took a shaky breath and forced a weak chuckle. "Tyler, you've got it all wrong. We were just—just joking, that's all. You took it out of context."

I clenched my jaw, feeling a wave of rage crash over me. "Joking?" I repeated slowly, my voice dripping with venom. "Are you seriously standing there, looking me in the eyes, and telling me that what I heard just now was a joke?"

The guard shifted uncomfortably, glancing at Declan as if waiting for instructions.

Declan licked his lips, his nervousness increasing. "Listen, son, you need to calm down. You're misunderstanding the situation."

I took a step closer, my hands balling into fists. "Calm down?" I sneered. "You want me to calm down when my mother has been kidnapped? When you lied to me about taking her somewhere safe?!"

"I—I didn't lie!" Declan stammered, but I had had enough of his pathetic attempts to manipulate me.

"Answer my question," I cut him off coldly. "Was my mother taken back home after we left, or not?"

Declan opened his mouth, closed it, then stuttered, "It's—it's not like that. It was just a misunderstanding—"

I laughed bitterly. "A misunderstanding?" I shook my head in disgust. "You are not just a terrible father, Declan. You're a disgusting liar."

His face changed. He looked hurt, but I didn't care.

"You always lie," I said, my voice shaking with anger. "Even when you're caught, you still deny everything. It's like the truth doesn't exist in your world."

"I should have known you were incapable of keeping your word," I spat. "Even when you're caught red-handed, you still have the audacity to lie to my face."

Declan took a small step back, his hands twitching at his sides. "Tyler, please—"

"You made a deal with me," I cut him off sharply. "And you still betrayed me. You promised to take my mother somewhere safe. You let me believe she was fine. But now, she's missing. And for what? Because you're so heartless you couldn't even fulfill one simple request?"

He swallowed but said nothing.

Tears of rage burned in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. "You know, for a second, I thought maybe—just maybe—you were capable of change. That maybe you deserved a chance to prove yourself." My voice broke slightly, but I pushed through. "But you? You're worse than a demon."

The silence stretched between us, Declan didn't even try to defend himself anymore. He just stood there, staring at me like he had finally been exposed for what he truly was.

My hands trembled as I wiped at my face roughly. "What did she ever do to you?" I asked, my voice softer but full of raw pain. "All my mother ever did was try to make things better. She was the only one still hoping you could be a father worth forgiving. But this? This is how you repay her?"

I let out a bitter laugh. "I warned her. I told her trusting you would only bring trouble. And now—now she's gone."

Declan opened his mouth to speak, but I cut him off again. "No, don't even try to explain." I turned my attention to the guard, my voice sharp. "Who took my mother?"

The guard stiffened, looking at Declan with fear in his eyes. His hands shook as he hesitated. "S-Sir, I—"

"Answer me!" I barked.

The guard's lips parted, and he finally spoke. "It was the unknown—"

Before he could finish his sentence, Declan suddenly grabbed the back of his head and slammed it against the wall with a sickening thud.

Blood splattered.

I took a step back, my stomach churning as the guard slumped to the ground, groaning in pain.

My hands curled into fists as I turned to Declan, my disgust reaching new heights. "Are you seriously doing this right now?" I demanded. "You'd rather beat your own men than let me know the truth?"

Declan turned to me, his eyes dark. "You don't understand, Tyler."

I scoffed. "Oh, I understand perfectly. You're a coward. A selfish, power-hungry monster who doesn't give a damn about anyone but himself."

Declan clenched his jaw but said nothing.

I shook my head in disbelief. "You think I don't see it? You're not trying to protect me. You're trying to protect yourself." I took a step closer, my voice dangerously low. "So, tell me, who took my mother?"

Declan remained silent.

I let out a dry laugh. "That's what I thought."

I turned away, my heart pounding in my chest. "Forget about getting my forgiveness," I said, my voice cold and final. "You can forget about having a son too."

Declan stiffened,

"You have until the end of this wedding to find my mother," I said, my tone sharp as a knife. "And she better be safe. She better be here by the time the party ends."

I turned back to face him, my eyes burning with fury. "I know you know who took her. So you better make the call. Get them to bring her back. Now."

"bring my mother to me or I'm going to kill anyone you hold dear, and I'd start with your beautiful wife to be ." I threatened

I held his gaze for a second longer before turning my back on him.

I stormed out without looking back
