Chapter 363: Spicy Meal.

Arissa watched Nicklaus back as he walked away from her. She thinned her lips and glanced at the milk placed beside the apple.

Walking towards it, she picked it up and took a sip from it before dropping it back in its initial position. She had a displeased look on her face as she dropped it.

This evening hasn’t been easy for her. Ever since she left Collins’s sight, she has been feeling so sick and uncomfortable inside her. She felt like she carried a heavy load.

Her stomach growled and she held it together with both hands. Putting on her sleep footwear and her night robe, she walked towards the door to leave the room.

When Nicklaus heard the door open, he turned toward the door. He sat up when he saw her out of the room and was also about to close the door behind her.

"Love?" he called her softly and climbed down the bed, "What do you want?" he immediately regretted climbing the bed without her like she did not matter. He figured he might have upset her.

Arissa stared at him and shook her head, "Nothing of great importance. Just go back to rest, you had a long day,"

When he snapped at her earlier, she figured he might have been stressed out. Also, she understood his reason for getting mad concerning her nightmare but it wasn’t her fault. She can’t bring herself to tell him something like that.

"Wait, let me join you,"

She was about to close the door behind her when Nicklaus said that and she had no other option than to wait for him.

"You did not drink the milk," he noticed as he walked past the lampstand he kept the milk on and got to her.

Arissa held the opening of her night robe together and nodded, "I wasn’t able to, it has a sour taste. Did you check the due date?"

Nicklaus’s expression turned confused, "Sour taste?" he walked back into the room and tasted the milk.

The milk tasted normal and still warm and he got more confused about everything. "This doesn’t taste sour, I won’t even give you something sour in the first place,"

Arissa stared at the mug he held and argued, "It has a sour taste, Nick." Tucking a strand of her baby hair behind her ear, she closed the door and walked away, leaving Nicklaus inside.

Reaching the kitchen, Arissa walked straight to the cupboard and assembled all the spices she could find. Adding up a few more things, she began to prepare a very spicy meal which was very unlike her.

The aroma of the spice calmed her nerves and she wasn’t able to stop the urge of it and ended up adding too much of it.

Nicklaus appeared before the kitchen door and patiently stood there without saying a word. He watched her prepare her meal and wondered what made her taste change overnight.

He took a small stroll towards her and sat on one of the kitchen counter seats, "Can you eat that?" he asked, concerned.

Arissa spared him a short glance and stirred the soup pot. She picked up another spice bottle and opened it.

"Arissa stop," Nicklaus warned her firmly. She doesn’t eat spice and for someone like her who doesn’t he won’t advise her to start with such a large quantity, it would upset her stomach.

Arissa thinned her lips and looked into the pot, "I do not think it’s enough, Nick. Just a little more, please,"

"It would upset your stomach," Nicklaus reasoned and walked towards her. Standing before her, he placed his right hand into her pant pocket and scanned her body.

Arissa returned the spice to its initial position and walked away from the pot. Nicklaus lowered the oven gas and followed behind her. "You look unwell, I think you should rest and let me help you. You can sit and direct me on what I should do," he told her.

"I don’t think I want that anymore," Arissa replied and sat on one of the seats, "I want to be alone," she added holding his gaze.

"You do not want my presence?" Nicklaus asked gently and knelt beside her, "I’m sorry I offended you earlier. I was... I wasn’t thinking, I wanted answers and that was the reason why," he apologized and explained at once.

Arissa smiled at him and shook her head, "I’m not mad at you, Nick. And do not apologize that quickly to someone else," she warned jokingly.

"Who says I apologize to someone else?" he asked and replied himself, "I apologize to you alone,"

He came closer to her. Placing a hand on her arm, he went on, "If you claim not to be mad at me as you said, then what makes you mad?"

"I’m not mad," Arissa countered and twisted her nose, "Something smells," she informed Nicklaus and stood up for her seat.

"Smells?" Nicklaus frowned and stood straight.

Arissa nodded, "You don’t perceive that?"

Nicklaus did not reply immediately. He wrapped his arms around Arissa, kissed her forehead, and said, "Your senses are all stressed. Let me put that off and let’s go back to bed,"

Arissa blinked at him, "Okay," she sounded tired and let out some scattered breathing. Nicklaus smiled at her and before Arissa would expect his next move, he swept her off her feet and carried her protectively into his arms in a bridal style.

"Shuu, no words. Just sleep," he stopped her from protesting.

Arissa closed her eyes as he ordered and wrapped her hands around his neck firmly. She became shocked when she found out she no longer wanted anything more than to sleep while inhaling her husband’s scent.

"Do you still want to eat something quick?" Nicklaus questioned as he arranged the whole place with her in his arms.

"I’m no longer hungry, Nick," she muttered from the nook of his neck and fell into a deep slumber.
