Nicklaus’s heart skipped a beat when he stared into her eyes while he listened to her words. He reached for her cheeks and gently pinched it. She has very kissable cheeks which he loves.

"Nicklaus please speak to me," Arissa pleaded as anxiety covered the whole of her. She held both sides of his face and pressed their foreheads together.

She shut her eyes afterward, trying to withstand her overwhelming emotions, her hands trembled slowly and she tried to stop them, "Nicklaus, say something. Leaving me all alone in the dark doesn’t change anything. It doesn’t make any difference." she let out

Nicklaus hugged her gently from her waist and kissed the center of her head. He tenderly rubbed her lower midriff to calm her down.

Arissa sniffed and wrapped her hands around him, "Nicklaus," she called him slowly as she took her face off his chest and placed her chin on his chest.

Gazing up at him, her eyes pleaded with him and tears welled up in her eyes. Nicklaus smiled gently and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear.

He parted his lips slowly and with hesitation, "Love, I can’t," he refused and tears left Arissa’s eyes. He hated seeing her in tears but at this moment, he preferred for her to have a calm peace of mind over any other thing.

Her body trembled in his arm and she weakly pushed him off her. She smiled at him as if to convince him that she would be fine before walking out of the bathroom.

Nicklaus stood rooted to the spot. He stared at Arissa’s back as if he wanted to say something to her but thought better of it.

After a few minutes, he decided to walk out of the bathroom to see her and to his greatest relief, he found her eating the meal he prepared earlier.

Without saying a word to her, Nicklaus watched her finish her breakfast before walking towards her. Initially, he stayed away so she would not lose her appetite just at his sight.

He knows Arissa and he could already guess what might happen if he crowd her with his presence.

Arissa stood up with the tray to take it off the bed but Nicklaus stood before her in seconds and with his both hands outstretched and ready to take the plates, he pleaded, "Let me,"

Arissa raised her gaze to him. Nicklaus diverted his gaze when she looked up at him and Arissa could only shake her head softly before shifting away from him with the tray.

She dropped down from the bed and walked towards the door. She hastened her footsteps and turned deaf to whatever he might have to say.

"Arissa, please_"

SLAM!

She slammed the door behind her, cutting him off from his words. Nicklaus released a deep lonely sigh and sat on the bed. He started down at the floor for a few seconds before lifting his face to the door she just walked out from.

His jaw clenched and his heart burned. He decided to give her some breathing space and wait for her in the room.

Meanwhile...

Arissa had a hard time walking away from the door after she left the room and closed it behind her. She stood before the door with the tray in her hands for a short period and walked away after releasing a low sigh.

Getting into the kitchen, she arranged the whole place and cleared her dishes, adding the ones used by Jocelyn and Adele.

Right? Those two, she wondered where they went to. The house was dead silent and she also wondered why they had not come to check up on her.

Arranging the spoons and cups where they were meant to be, she suddenly felt dizzy again. She held onto the sink and took in gentle deep breaths.

She painfully shut her eyes to calm down. Tears pool in her eyes once again. She was new to things like this and everything left her clueless on what to do which was why she cried.

Tears streamed down her face and she placed a hand on her stomach, "Please, please listen. Mummy isn’t strong enough to support herself and she might fall hard if she tries to walk. Can you please help Mummy to calm down? No one’s here to help Mummy and she needs you right now, please baby,"

"Who are you talking to and who do you refer to as Mummy?" a voice from behind her spoke up and Arissa froze when she recognized Jocelyn’s voice.

She shut her eyes more tight and bit on her lower lips. Jocelyn walked towards her, "Arissa," she placed a hand on her friend’s shoulder when she got to her.

Arissa forced out a bright smile and faced her friend. Jocelyn caught sight of Arissa’s hand cradling her stomach and her jaw dropped to the floor.

"Mummy?" she placed a hand on top of Arissa’s hand placed on the stomach. She felt Arissa’s stomach to be a bit bloated and her eyes slowly widened, "Holy crab! Are you pregnant?"

Arissa smiled softly and tears escaped her eyes. She sniffed and nodded in amusement, "I am," she cradled her stomach more, "But I think the baby is mad at me,"

"Oh my God!!" Jocelyn screamed with red cheeks, "Oh my! I can’t believe this. Why did you not tell me? When did you find out?" she threw questions to Arissa as she stared at her stomach with obvious love in her eyes. She couldn’t get enough of the news.

"I found out this morning. I found out a few hours ago," Arissa replied and struggled to fight back her tears. Jocelyn was very happy for her and she didn’t want to spoil her friend’s very excited mood.

Jocelyn bent a little and caressed Arissa’s stomach, "Aww, what a cute baby. I’m Jocelyn, the best aunt you’ll ever meet," she gushed and praised herself before standing straight to Arissa’s height with a wide smile on her face, "Does Nicklaus know about this?"

Arissa nodded, "He does," she replied and choked on her tears.

Jocelyn’s smile wiped off her face in seconds when she saw Arissa cry in such a heartbreaking way.
