Chapter 382: Please Do Not Purchase.

Nicklaus scanned the dining hall as he walked in, "Where is Arissa?" he asked when he saw Geal alone.

"She left," Geal replied. He raised his face from his meal and pointed at Arissa’s unfinished meal, "I tried to cheer her up but it wasn’t possible. Her appetite left the moment the call came. She suspected it to be from the higher-ups,"

Nicklaus swallowed and walked towards the table. Staring at Arissa’s meal, he added more plates to her tray and carried it together with a glass of juice and water.

Geal watched Nicklaus arrange the tray. He swallowed his meal, cleared his throat, and asked, "What was the conversation about?" there was concern in his voice.

Nicklaus raised his eyes and fixed it on his friend. He stayed quiet for a second and when he parted his lips to reply, his voice came out raspy as his emotions weren’t stable yet.

"Mr. Robert called. Funny how he tried to threaten me with the information he got from whosoever_"

Geal cut him off, "Information? What information are you talking about? What do you mean threaten?"

Nicklaus dropped the tray. He drew the seat before Geal out and sat on it. Stretching his legs out under the dining table, he used his fingers to comb the small hair strands falling over his face backward.

Annoyed, he said, "That old hag called me to threaten me. He said he heard some information about my involvement with Alfred going to prison," he chuckled.

Geal dropped his cutleries and sat up, "Threaten?" he sounded confused as he still did not understand how the word ’threaten’ walked in.

Nicklaus nodded, "Yes. There are consequences for that act of mine and he knows the consequences of my actions and what it would cost Arissa if the higher-ups should know about it,"

Geal frowned, "How did he know about your involvement?"

Nicklaus relaxed into his seat, "I can’t point a finger at anyone. My main concern now is how I would keep my wife safe," he placed both hands on the table and stared down at them.

Geal sighed, "What was the threat about? Give up your position?" he guessed but somehow, he doubted he was close to the answer.

Nicklaus shook his head. He drummed his fingers on the table and replied, "He wants me to marry his daughter to keep his mouth shut,"

Geal cleared his throat in shock, "He wants you to marry his daughter?" he questioned, sounding disgusted, "That’s ridiculous. What happens to Arissa after that?"

Nicklaus pinched the skin between his brows, "What happens to Arissa is that she remains my wife. Nothing would change that,"

"Huh? And how about Mr. Robert, do you intend...." Geal trailed off when he saw the murderous glare Nicklaus cast upon him.

Immediately, he rephrased his sentence and asked, "If so, what would you do about Robert and his daughter?"

Nicklaus’s eyes turned shades darker and he said to Geal in a voice piercing cold, "Nothing. They can do whatever fuck they want to do. Arissa is safe with me and there’s nothing the whole of the higher-ups combined can do about it,"

Geal stilled at Nicklaus’s words. Not just the words, but his friend also sounded dangerously serious.

Alarmed, he muttered, "That’s not how you should go about this, Nicklaus,"

Nicklaus frowned. He sat up on his seat and with intense fire in his eyes, he demanded, "Tell me! Tell me how I should go about this,"

Geal cleared his throat awkwardly at the face of Nicklaus’s anger. He pushed his chair backward to keep a safe space between himself and Nicklaus.

His friend doesn’t have anger issues but he doubts that now. At this moment, his friend looks like he won’t mind killing him if he gives one wrong suggestion and he wonders how deep his friend has drowned in the sea of love.

Geal raised his hand to the air and made a peace sign, "Calm, calm Nicklaus. That wasn’t how I meant it,"

He added immediately, "I was only saying you shouldn’t take the higher-ups lightly. They won’t bat an eyelid if they should crumble you so that you comply with their command. They have done this once, the Late Mr. Monroe lives on as an example. We can’t tell if they were the ones who killed his wife but we all know that his wife’s death after they crumbled to dust level caused his stroke which led to his death. I also want to keep Arissa safe but I don’t think we should do this your way," he kept his voice low all through. He wasn’t ready to add salt to his friend’s injury.

"We do not need any pattern. Arissa is safe with me and concerning my company under them, they can take it for all I care. What is it you don’t understand?" Nicklaus half glowed.

He was frustrated about the whole thing but he refused to admit to that and it caused him to risk raising his voice at his friend.

Geal stood up and slammed the dining table hard with his fists, "Arissa isn’t safe with you. If anything, she was fine and okay until she met you. What is it you don’t understand? Arissa is human and she would have her wants and needs. She would step out and you’ll not always be with her, you won’t always be around her and no amount of men you attach to her can reduce the speed of bullets. When she steps out without you, what do you think might happen? Arissa is a stubborn woman and you can’t expect her to stay indoors. Just like how you have your own life, she also has hers, and the people she wants to take care of. You can’t always protect her, God always protects his children and even under his watch, they die. How much more are you, a mere mortal who can’t watch over her always," he paused his breathless speech.

"I know you love her and I can feel how scared you are and even if you won’t admit it, I know you are frightened and it’s no crime to be frightened over situations like this. It’s perfectly normal to be frightened but where the main question comes in is if you let fright make you foolish and deaf." he forced himself to sit down when he saw his words going into Nicklaus’s mind.

Nicklaus let out a low sigh and stared into Geal’s eyes, "I will get back to you. Let me make sure she takes something into her stomach first."

Geal nodded, "Sure,"

At his response, Nicklaus picked up the tray and walked away with it. Geal stared at his friend back and let out a low sigh before forcefully continuing his breakfast.
