Chapter 176: Killed a Witch!?

At this point, Alice’s eyes had narrowed slightly. She felt her breath rising but she controlled, "A curse... was there anything done against me?"

"Yes, it was all because of us." King Vilas’s tone started to subside with time. There was a tinge of hesitation crawling under his skin.

Despite his several attempts, King Vilas wasn’t able to easily detect what caused the turmoil in his heart. The more he tried to suppress those feelings, the more the heartache increased.

Taking a deep breath, King Vilas told, "Your brother was already born. It was later when your mother fell pregnant with you. Almost two or more years after. But at that time, it was all fine."

"Our priest told us that the child will be special but we didn’t pay attention. But your mother was always concerned. I never understood the reason behind her worry but she used to tell me that her connection with you is telling her understanding that something will actually come and cause a burden."

Hearing what her father resite, Alice can’t help but feel her heart somewhat filled with emotions. Knowing everything was an old tale, she still took it seriously in her mind.

As she came across the beginning of the untold story, she realized it better that knowing too, wasn’t an easy task.

Her eyes lowered snd switched to see the grasses beneath them. The urges increased, so was her curiosity.

"Afterwards?"

"It was the darkest day of ours. Your mother and I had decided to pay a visit to the nearby kingdom. However, we were very late and the sun was already down in the sky. It took us half of our journey and was resting in the middle of our dark forest."

"Even though the soldiers were all together with us. But it was out of our control. The Queen was still the utmost priority of ours and to not let any harm befall us, I asked your mother to rest inside the carriage."

"But... she being stubborn..." King Vilas’s lips were once again sales. A typical hesitant and all tired sigh escaped from his mouth with no remorse and happiness. "Who knows when but it was your mother who heard a child crying. She was too soft and without thinking twice, your mother had decided to leave the carriage."

Under the sunlight, King Vilas’s each word registered in Alice’s brain. It was a long tale to begin with. But with every sentence, her curiosity reached upto its peak.

Yet Alice didn’t raise her voice. Her turmoil of sentiments was better to reside under her mind.

Neither did King Vilas stop. If he had gathered the courage, he better spill the beans in one go. "Without telling me or anything else, she followed the noise of the crying."

"Betric had felt hypnotized by that voice. She knew perfectly that getting out of the carriage was extremely dangerous but she took the risk."

"Beyond my capacity, Betric went to the shallow forest and at one, she saw a white colored child whose around light gleamed." King Vilas took a pause.

He didn even face Alice anymore. His mind didn’t hold much of vitality to overlook her and speak with honesty. He knew his speech would stammer.

But it wasn’t until the green light passed. King Vilas held his hand closest to his heart to say, "Beatrice was still not caring. She took small steps and reached up to the child-like figure who was sitting on the ground. To this point Betric had told me that she felt as if someone was pulling her closer."

"Despite refusing to hold her heart at bay, it stretched to the glowing child." King Vilas’s explanation raised Alice’s breath.

Her face lost all of its color. There was no trace of shock either. Except the gleam in those eyes, she didn show any kind of amusement.

At this point, her lips went dry. No sound came out of her throat and she didn’t even try to bargain.

However, King Vilas was a better reader of the situations. He raised his head to gaze at the flowers in front of them with a different spirit. He was all absent from the current plan and playing in the past.

"The moment your mother touched the child... it was told that the person wasn’t a child but a witch... It was a playful witch, whose mind wasn’t set. She was mad witch, behaving like a child." King Vilas’s words made a sigh go escape from Alice’s lips.

She covered her mouth with the unblocking fact in her hand. Shock covered her body and Alice turned rigid. "So... Mother met with a witch in the middle of a forest!?!"

In response to her, she received a nod from her father’s back. "But how is that possible? Don’t they keep their identity hidden? Even merging or interacting with human is not allowed."

She read a book about the Witches. The foremost thing she noted was how persistent they were. It was their rule that being in the limelight would kill themselves.

To her words, a small smile had surfaced on his lips. "If that was the case, it would have been best."

"Most of the witches like to stay hidden. But as I told you, that witch didn’t have her mind in the right direction. The time when she saw Betric, she tried to attack her with her hands."

"Your mother knew a bit about self defense. She took steps back and was ready to run away. But that witch held your mother with a lace of witches. It didn’t let your mother move..."

Each word added suspicion to Alice’s stomach. She least expected her pregnant mother to encounter a witch. ’Was this witch the one who cursed me?’ She didn’t think so because her heart wasn’t ready to accept this.

"W-why.. did they curse me then?"

To this question, King Vilas turned around to face Alice with the subtle change in those doomed eyes, "Because I killed that mad witch to save you and your mother."
