Hogwarts: Even Voldemort Can't Stop Me From Studying-Chapter 592 - 196: Prophecy (2)
Time was like a girl lifting her skirt and running, disappearing before those behind could pick up the crystal shoe, as the gloomy week of exams descended.
Vid received an unusual schedule, such as having to take both Arithmancy and Transfiguration exams at nine in the morning on the first day, and then Charms and Ancient Magical Runes at one in the afternoon.
Luckily for Vid, handling exams had never been a difficult task. Of course, grades weren't particularly important to him now.
The last exams were Divination and Muggle Studies, although they were scheduled at the same time, students could still attend punctually without a Time Turner.
Because students taking the Divination exam had to go one by one, Vid went to the Muggle Studies classroom first.
The exam content was simple, mostly multiple-choice questions on a paper, then identifying a few Muggle items and their uses, like mobile phones, power strips, lamps, and finally assembling a normal outfit for oneself in Muggle Society.
In Vid's view, the exam wasn't even worthy of being called a freebie, a trained monkey could easily complete it.
But when he saw one of his classmates pairing a flannel nightgown with green leather pants, he realized he had underestimated the task.
"Completely pointless, isn't it?" Hermione, who also came to take the exam, said to Vid after leaving the classroom, "Though from a wizard's perspective, Muggle Society is quite interesting, for you and me, it's a total waste of time."
"Didn't you already drop this class?" Vid asked casually.
"Yes, I've told Professor Burbage, haven't attended recently," Hermione said, "But after studying for over six months, I want to see it through to the end."
Vid was still glancing back at the classmate who made the peculiar outfit, as if his brain told him it was fine, but his eyes suggested it was a significant problem.
So that classmate hesitated, and found a women's wide-brimmed hat with a long feather to tentatively place it on a mannequin's head.
Vid looked incredulously at Hermione, asking, "Even if he's never seen a Muggle, doesn't he have a bit of normal taste?"
"Maybe he's got too much 'taste,'" Hermione stifled a laugh, "Trying to score higher with a fashion statement."
Vid raised an eyebrow, puzzled, "Fashion?"
"Haven't you watched fashion shows on TV, Vid?" Hermione gestured, "It's like... those creative fashion shows."
Vid suddenly understood.
On the second floor, he turned towards the North Tower where the Divination classroom was, while Hermione headed towards the library.
"Aren't you going to the Divination exam?" Vid asked.
"I don't want to see Trelawney at all," Hermione said disdainfully, "She's a complete fraud."
Vid raised an eyebrow, "What about your determination to see things through to the end?"
"Divination doesn't count," Hermione said with a wave, walking backward, hands spread, "Honestly, Vid, you don't need to endure her nonsense for twelve OWLs certificates."
"Alright... but I actually find Divination interesting."
Vid waved goodbye to Hermione and ascended the spiral staircase. Outside the Divination classroom, a few students were queued up; Ron and Harry were at the back.
They were quietly interrogating a student coming down the stairs, "How did it go?"
"Professor Trelawney doesn't want us to say. But..." Padma leaned in, whispering, "Crystal ball Divination."
"You're crazy!" Lisa tugged at Padma fearfully, "Didn't the professor say those who reveal exam contents will face something terrible?"
"Oh, come on, don't be like my sister," Padma said indifferently, "I don't believe in such dangers... unless Professor Trelawney personally curses me—hi, Vid!"
She happily greeted Vid, then left with Lisa, discussing what to buy during the last Hogsmeade weekend.
"Crystal ball Divination!" Ron looked uneasy, "I couldn't see anything in there!"
"Neither could I." Harry encouraged him, "Use your imagination, Ron! Didn't you say you saw something special in the crystal ball last time?"
"Yes," Ron said, "I saw spiders with eight eyes having a tug of war with chocolate frogs, I suspect Professor Trelawney won't find that amusing."
Lavender, ahead of them, giggled and turned curiously, "What did you say then?"
"I said I saw myself being chased by a giant spider," Ron said with a pale face, "And for the first time, Professor Trelawney gave me an Outstanding."
Harry patted his shoulder cheerfully, "See, making things up isn't difficult, right?"
Ron sighed with complexity.
This year, Harry was rarely prophesied about his death by Professor Trelawney; especially in the second term, his Divination classes became as normal as everyone else's, making him view the class quite positively.
Compared to Hermione's courses with lots of memorization and calculations, Harry found Divination assignments manageable with mere fabrication. He turned back, asking, "Vid, what can you see in the crystal ball?"
Vid paused for a moment, then said, "Pretty much like Ron, observing the shapes of the fog, imagining a corresponding object — mostly animals, sometimes household items, then extend it according to the textbook interpretations."
"Oh... interpretations..."
Harry thought for a moment, then pulled out "Unfogging the Future" from his bag for a last-minute review, with Ron quickly leaning over.
Vid smiled, looking up towards the trap door of the Divination classroom. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
One by one, students finished their exams and left, some full of confidence, others quite dejected.
When Ron came down, he said, "I don't know if she believed me or not... but maybe I can pass, as long as I pass I'm satisfied..."
Then it was Harry's turn.
Vid, arms crossed, leaned against the wall, wondering what Harry would hear upon going up.
In the original story, Harry would hear a true prophecy during this exam — the unreliable Professor Trelawney prophesied the reunion of Voldemort and Wormtail, foretelling the resurgence of the Dark Lord.
However, now, the "Wormtail" out and about was a poppet sent by Vid, and Voldemort's resurrection was likely still far off.
Vid didn't attempt to eavesdrop, for even if Trelawney made an extraordinary prophecy, Harry wouldn't keep it from them.
After nearly half an hour, Vid saw Harry walking down the stairs in a daze.
"Harry?" Vid asked, "What's the matter?"
"A devoted servant will help the Dark Lord rise again... Darkness and mist will cover the land..." Harry muttered, looking up at Vid, asking, "What does it mean?"
"Professor Trelawney said that?" Vid straightened a bit, asking, "Did she make a real prophecy?"
"I feel like she did," Harry said, "She acted differently... it didn't feel like she was making things up..."
"Vid Gray?" Professor Trelawney's voice came from above, "It's your turn."
"Don't worry, what's meant to happen will happen," Vid patted Harry, "Tell Dumbledore the prophecy exactly as you heard it; if it's truly happening, he'll have a plan. As for the rest... we can't change it."
Then, Vid stepped past Harry and headed upstairs.
