How I Pampered the Tyrant Into Devotion With My Space-Chapter 30: You’re Not Dying—You Just Want to Take Advantage
Now the sky is very dark, and everyone hasn’t noticed the look on Pei Shu’er’s face.
Seeing that she didn’t speak, Liu Xu came over.
"Shu’er, are you okay?"
Pei Shu’er shook her head, took her backpack, and handed a bamboo tube of water to Liu Xu.
Liu Xu drank a sip, then passed it to Tang Qingning. Tang Qingning thought the water was running low, so she dared not drink much.
Then she handed it to Tang Qinghuan. After Tang Qinghuan finished drinking, she said to Tang Shuo, "Shuo’er, come drink water."
A bamboo tube of water was thus passed around, even Lin Yu, Lin Hong, Wangcai, and Lai Fu drank.
As they drank like this, others looked on enviously, their Adam’s apples moving as they continued to swallow their saliva.
But their throats, parched from lack of water, felt like they were being scraped with a knife when they swallowed their saliva.
The temperature gradually cooled, and the government officers chopped dead trees to make a fire, lest the sharp temperature difference between day and night in the desert freeze someone to death. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
When the firelight lit up, the third branch of the family saw Pei Shu’er’s pale face and asked her anxiously.
"Shu’er, are you okay?"
Two small children leaned against her legs, their eyes full of concern.
Pei Shu’er couldn’t speak, she pointed to her throat and shook her head.
Liu Xu lovingly touched Pei Shu’er’s hair: "Shu’er, I’m sorry for the trouble."
She smiled and took out six fish from her backpack, sprinkled some seasoning, and the aroma wafted through the building.
Everyone swallowed their saliva all at once.
They really felt they would either die of hunger or of greed.
The look in their eyes as they stared at Pei Shu’er and her group was wolf-like.
But intimidated by Pei Shu’er and Tang Zan’s fierceness, no one dared to do anything to them.
Pei Shu’er picked up two fish and walked towards the government officers, stopping next to Lu Qing, speaking with a hoarse voice.
"Lord, this is a small token of my appreciation."
Lu Qing looked up, somewhat surprised, at Pei Shu’er. Food and water were extremely precious in the desert.
They had just tried to salvage supplies, but most were blown away by the sandstorm.
Even the carriage was swept away.
The horses were pushed in here, but there wasn’t enough food for even themselves, let alone the exiles.
"Thank you."
Dividing two fish among fifty government officers was just a tease.
Yet when they tasted it, they found the fish was tender and juicy, with no fishy taste and a unique freshness.
No wonder the Tang Family enjoyed the fish so much.
After eating it, they felt even hungrier.
Fortunately, they still had some food.
The gaze of the first branch people lingered on the fish as they swallowed, their voices cold.
"Pei Shu’er, you turncoat. Didn’t you claim there was no food or water before?"
The exiles looked at Pei Shu’er suspiciously, wondering if she had made false claims just to split up?
Pei Shu’er said unfairly: "Uncle, I found these things outside just now. I didn’t know who dropped them."
Everyone was inside earlier, so no one saw it clearly.
Pei Shu’er took the chance to fill several water pouches in her space, taking them out to give them a shake.
Mrs. Li’s eyes darted, and she smiled: "Oh my, what happened before is not important. Now that you have food. Our Tang Family is starving, and you would rather please the government officers than give to us?"
"You are part of the Tang Family; how can you care for outsiders instead of your family?"
Everyone’s expressions grew stranger. Pei Shu’er’s actions seemed excessive: her family mattered less to her than the government officers, regardless of circumstances, showing little regard for human lives.
Everyone whispered to each other.
"I used to think Miss Pei was reasonable. But now she seems not only servile but also indifferent to her relatives’ lives."
Pei Shu’er’s expression first froze, then hesitated before finally speaking after a long pause.
"But Aunt, we’ve already split the family. After the separation, should I still provide for you? There are no such rules in this world."
She paused, then weakly added.
"Furthermore, you scold me so loudly, it’s not at all like you’re on the brink of starvation. I think you can last at least three more days..."
"I know you just want to take advantage of me... after all, you’ve gotten used to it."
Some exiles chuckled; Pei Shu’er was too straightforward. Mrs. Li did look unwell, but not like she was dying.
"I think what Pei Shu’er said makes sense."
"Mrs. Li is so harsh and can still scold people. Look over there, people who are on the verge of death can’t even keep their eyes open, unlike the Tang Family’s first branch, who look fierce and sound strong."
Tang Qinghua looked at Pei Shu’er’s innocent face, recalling her earlier viciousness, and combined with the onlookers’ words, she grew even more furious.
"Pei Shu’er, you’re too heartless. I don’t care, your things belong to our Tang Family. Dad, Mom, let’s take back what’s ours, so everyone in the Tang Family can enjoy them."
She stood up righteously, walking towards Pei Shu’er.
She wasn’t afraid of Pei Shu’er now; with so many Tang Family members behind her, they could fully support her.
The first branch people also stood up.
Pei Shu’er looked at the group of sickly villains and wanted to laugh, thinking she could just beat them with one punch after drinking Spiritual Spring Water.
Yet these villains, unaware of their limitations, wanted to snatch her things.
Even so, facing such verbal attacks, she couldn’t resort to violence; otherwise, she’d be proving her guilt.
Even if she was right, using force would make her wrong.
Even in arguing, she had to argue clearly.
Pei Shu’er looked at Old Madam Tang, her voice so hoarse it was almost inaudible, smoke drifting over her pale face.
"Grandma, please uphold justice. It was the first branch that wanted us separated, knowing full well that separation meant a dead end for us."
"Now that I’ve risked my life to find food, they demand it, relying on being elders. Why didn’t they think of being elders and let us stay in the Tang Family to survive?"
The onlookers, seeing Pei Shu’er’s miserable state compared to the first branch’s aggressiveness, also felt disheartened.
"Miss Pei is struggling so much, yet the first branch is still forcing her. They can’t stand to see her live well."
"I think Old Madam is favoring the first branch too, helping them bully Pei Shu’er."
Tang Peiyi frowned and stood up: "Big Brother, sister-in-law, you can’t bully the third branch just because they’re weak. You forgot that without Shu’er, we would have died long ago."
Tang Tuo also said: "We can’t hold a grudge against Shu’er for not sharing food this once and forget all her past kindness."
