Hunter of Mysterious Creature-Chapter 561 - 129: Body Snatching (Part 2)
"If you need medical assistance, please respond immediately! Or we can send you back to the institute at once!!"
"Mr. Sun Hang!! Mr. Sun Hang!!"
"I’m fine." Sun Hang slowly exhaled a breath and lazily replied.
"Uh... Are you sure?"
"Just overused my powers, feeling a bit exhausted." Sun Hang turned his head, looking at a charred piece of corpse nearby, "Is there any soup? I’d love some soup."
"Huh? Soup?" The field team leader was stunned, the sudden turn in the conversation left him momentarily bewildered, "You... You want some soup?"
"Yeah, my throat feels dry as hell, and I think I’m a bit hungry too."
"Soup... soup soup..." The field team leader looked around bewildered, "We... we only have self-heating food and instant canned food here... Oh yes! There’s a mobile kitchen at the testing site, I can have someone fix it up right away! What kind of soup would you like?"
"Anything... self-heating food works too." Sun Hang said weakly, "Just hurry up and have the drone send it over, my throat’s practically smoking."
"Alright, alright, I’ll arrange it immediately!"
...
The field team leader didn’t make Sun Hang wait long, within ten minutes, two heavy cargo drones dragged a large box up to Naitou Mountain, landing beside Sun Hang.
Sun Hang got up and dragged the big box over.
The box was stuffed with seven or eight bags of standard size self-heating military rations, several stacks of ready-to-eat canned food, and four two-liter bottles of purified water.
Sun Hang first drank down two big bottles of purified water in one go, then ripped open a bag of self-heating military rations, unscrewed the third bottle of water, and poured it in.
The self-heating bag filled with quicklime quickly began to emit heat, steam continuously billowed out from the crevices of the ration’s packaging — had he used dragon flame to heat the food, it wouldn’t even take a second, but Sun Hang was too tired now, he’d rather wait a few more minutes than use his powers at this point.
It’s not that he’s too exhausted to unleash dragon flame, it’s just with his current mental state, he could use his powers, but control precision would be greatly reduced.
With such a dominating power like dragon flame, a slight hand twitch could obliterate this bag of self-heating ration entirely.
As the heating process continued, the aroma of food gradually wafted out. Sun Hang kicked away a few nearby corpse fragments, found a reasonably clean spot, and sat down.
He used the big box as a table, placed the foldable paper bowl that came with the self-heating rations on top.
The heated military rations poured into the paper bowl... The package suggested it was some sort of meat sauce over rice, but what poured into the bowl only brought to mind one kind of food.
Soggy zongzi.
Old generation self-heating rations, as long as the main food was rice, could generally be considered as various flavored zongzi... Though this issue was resolved with the new generation self-heating rations, in resource-strapped Tianfu City, over eighty percent of the self-heating rations stored in the warehouse were this "zongzi rice."
The Xiazhou Federation calls "One side in trouble, Eight sides support," and neighboring city-states to the Shuzhou Region continuously send supplies, and these old-generation self-heating rations, due to their long shelf life, were hard to consume from the warehouse, naturally becoming the primary choice for supporting Shuzhou.
Ye Jiu complained to Sun Hang more than once about nearly throwing up after eating this zongzi rice during field missions.
"Well, zongzi rice is zongzi rice... As long as there’s soup, it’s fine."
Along with that serving of zongzi rice was a compressed block of seaweed egg drop soup, which quickly dissolved in hot water, Sun Hang picked up the paper cup and drank it all at once.
Very salty, very savory... To replenish the intense physical depletion, the standard version of self-heating rations contains much more salt than the civilian version sold in the market, not just salt, but lots of MSG too... After drinking this hot soup, Sun Hang drank up the remaining part of the third bottle of purified water.
He let out a satisfied burp, then laid back down again.
Looking at the pitch-black sky, Sun Hang stretched comfortably.
Fully satiated and hydrated, now he just wanted a good night’s sleep.
Unfortunately, just as Sun Hang was about to close his eyes, the sound of helicopter rotors came from nearby.
The field team leader flew up to Naitou Mountain with several agents.
"Mr. Sun Hang... Are you sure you’re really okay?" Looking at Sun Hang lying on the ground, the field team leader’s expression was somewhat awkward.
"I’m fine." Sun Hang replied, "Oh by the way, the other attacker was shredded by me with an electric grid, only these corpse fragments are left, if you search carefully enough, you might be able to piece together a complete human shape."
Actually, without Sun Hang saying much, the people the field team leader brought had already jumped off the helicopter, gathering scattered corpse pieces with specimen bags and tongs.
"Regarding this attacker..."
The field team leader wanted to ask something, but Sun Hang interrupted him directly: "I’ll submit an action report when I get back, but for now please don’t disturb me, I just want to sleep well."
"Uh... If you want to sleep, I can take you back to your place or the institute... There’s temporary accommodation provided for technicians and engineers at the testing site."
"Back to the institute then." Sun Hang got on the helicopter, yawning long.
"Oh right, Mr. Yang asked me to inquire with you..."
"Let her ask when I’m back." Sun Hang said without hesitation.
While eating the zongzi rice, Sun Hang had already turned off his headset, so he couldn’t hear any audio from different communication channels... Though he imagined it but be a cacophony.
"Just thinking about it is enough to cause a headache..." Sun Hang thought to himself.
The alien consciousness that had just invaded his mind seemed to have touched some deep-sealed memories... Sun Hang could vaguely sense the seals seemed to have loosened a bit.
Unfortunately, that guy only touched it once and screamed before dissipating into dust, didn’t even last a second.
Way too weak... If it had held on a few more seconds, it might have helped pry open a seam in his seal...
Just wonder what it saw in his deepest memories?
Couldn’t be the Three Monkeys, right?
Suddenly Sun Hang remembered, the Three Monkeys hadn’t appeared in a long time...
Is it because he hasn’t encountered anything dangerous enough recently? Or has his power grown so much that many things that would have been deadly to him are no longer threats...
Previously, Sun Hang had the nerve to act recklessly because he knew the Three Monkeys had his back. But now, he seemed unable to mess up even if he tried.
For a moment, he felt somewhat disinterested inside.
It’s not just the Three Monkeys... Anna seems to... have not appeared for a while?
That person used to occasionally make a presence in front of him
The last time Anna appeared seemed to be when he was flying back to Tianfu City from Chunming City.
While Sun Hang was thinking, a somewhat weak voice suddenly sounded in his ear: "Mom actually misses me... I’m so touched!"
"You’re not dead yet?" Sun Hang’s tone carried a hint of disappointment.
"Almost, I almost died." Anna replied.
"That’s really too bad." Sun Hang said, "Can you tell me why you nearly died?"
"Mom, are you actually concerned about me?" Anna said cheerfully.
"No, I’m just curious, about how I can get you killed."
