I Am Cultivating in the Apocalypse-Chapter 1021 - 1020: What Kind of Good Benefits Could Your Crappy Detergent Factory Have?
The neighbors couldn’t help but breathe heavily, each watching the Wei family’s sister-in-law. She was usually hardworking and quite capable, and her husband was also capable. It was said that only with connections could one become a director.
"If they didn’t have connections, could people like Qiao Lian, a country woman, and her son, who is too simple-minded to scheme, have their entire family of four find work?"
So everyone was very curious.
Qiao Lian held the hand of a four or five-year-old girl with big eyes while standing beside her mother-in-law, glaring at the neighbors, afraid they might steal something. Then she heard her mother-in-law say:
"We’re not going to the Cigarette Factory, neither my daughter-in-law nor I."
The crowd noticeably sighed in relief, afraid they would be jealous if you suddenly became rich, but sympathizing when you seem not to be doing well.
Then she said, "We’re going to the laundry detergent factory, my daughter-in-law and I."
"Laundry detergent factory? What kind of factory is that? How come we haven’t heard of it?"
"How are the benefits? Are they better than the clothing factory?"
"You’re silly! A crappy laundry detergent factory, what good benefits could it have? Who uses laundry detergent these days? People just swish clothes in water, who would buy laundry detergent?"
"That’s right, it seems nobody buys laundry detergent, anyway, I wouldn’t spend Virtual Coin to buy it."
Qiao Lian rolled her eyes, fed up with the conversation. She immediately stepped forward and said, "Ahem, actually, we’re just going to the dormitory of the laundry detergent factory. The laundry detergent factory is connected to the Cigarette Factory and the Beer Factory, and the dormitory buildings are together too. It’s said that some buildings from before the apocalypse were brought over, and there’s also a free staff canteen, kindergarten, and elderly care home."
The thing is, with the child being so young and unable to stay alone, when we went to the laundry detergent factory, they provided free childcare and teaching.
The key point is that employees get free meals every day, and they can eat anything they want, and their family members can eat for free too!
She proudly raised her head, unable to suppress her boastful attitude.
The crowd gasped: "The benefits of your crappy laundry detergent factory are the same as the Cigarette Factory’s? Is that true? Who buys laundry detergent? Why haven’t I heard of anyone selling laundry detergent?"
While all the neighbors were questioning Qiao Lian’s words, the little girl widened her eyes in defiance, wanting to say that Jing Shu, her cousin who runs the factory, it’s big and great! She often brings her candy beans; her cousin is her dad’s little uncle’s daughter and the one who delivered her!
Had it not been for her cousin delivering her, Grandma and Grandpa said she would have died long ago.
That’s why she was named Wei Shu’en, to always be grateful to her cousin Jing Shu. Almost every holiday, gifts from her cousin’s family would arrive, without fail giving her milk powder, maltose, and lots of other good stuff.
She never dared forget cousin Jing Shu; in the family, her cousin was a legend. Unfortunately, she only saw her once or twice a year.
Yet, even though the young girl only saw her cousin once or twice a year, she had etched her into her heart, recognizing her from afar with just a glance.
And she had just glanced and spotted her cousin, though her cousin was dressed very differently today from the cotton-padded coat or casual sportswear she used to wear, now wearing something impressive like the suits worn at pre-apocalypse meetings.
Her eyes widened in disbelief, "Did cousin come?"
The young girl was too small to understand that Jing Shu was wearing a formal OL business woman’s attire, appearing sharp yet unable to hide her natural beauty behind her jade-like complexion.
From afar, they heard Jing Shu cousin’s cheerful voice:
"I know everyone definitely won’t spend a few Virtual Coins to buy laundry detergent that can only be used once or twice. But what if you could spend just two or three Virtual Coins for some that could be used forever, never running out?"
This voice caused the street full of neighbors to gasp in shock.
Someone had wanted to say, "Who the hell can say such a thing without any hair on their tongue, isn’t it just bragging?"
But before the words came out, they saw her wearing a spotless, wrinkle-free, OL attire that exuded elegance and sharpness. Her steps were composed and confident, her demeanor calm and poised, and the slight curve at the corners of her mouth revealed imposing authority.
She was enveloped in an aura of invisible might.
Everyone subconsciously straightened their hunches, their first thought being: "Is this a leader coming for an inspection?"
Old Wei family’s woman warmly called out, "My dear niece came, how come you came in person? We don’t have much stuff; it’s easy to move to the employee dormitory. Oh, mom, you’ve come in person too." The enthusiastic greeting was accompanied by the son-in-law personally helping the old lady, pouring tea and busying around.
Only then did the neighborhood realize that this was the wealthy and influential relative of the Wei family, who held a high position and had internal connections, quietly amazed: "The Wei family’s been really discreet lately, hiding such powerful relatives."
"Can’t be that good a relative, or they wouldn’t let the Wei family live here all the time."
Then, in the next moment, the Wei family’s so-called niece took out a handful of treats, including White Rabbit candy and chocolate snacks, giving them to the little girl while rubbing her head:
"It’s been a while, Shu’en, you’ve gotten taller; have you missed your cousin?"
Wei Shu’en’s eyes sparkled, she happily answered loudly, "I missed you, I miss you every day!"
