I Am Genie-Chapter 38: Inheriting Cook God
The more Michael thought about it, the more he felt this line of thinking was correct. Cook God didn’t call him here to cook but called him here to receive an inheritance. So then, Cook God using cooking to teach him how to use various skills wasn’t strange at all.
"So you’re teaching me how to use your abilities?"
"Ah, you figured it out? Not completely stupid then. But it’s not like I deliberately set up this whole cooking thing, you found it yourself."
Cook God nodded, satisfied. He really had this intention from the start, but the cooking thing was actually unexpected. It was because of Michael’s cocky attitude towards his culinary skills that he decided to do it this way.
"Huh?"
Michael was stunned. He originally thought Cook God had a premeditated plan, never expected it was a coincidence. Thinking about it, Cook God really paid a lot of attention to cooking matters, but when looking at Cook God, he didn’t feel like he was looking at a chef.
"You still ’huh’ what? Not going to admit you were wrong?"
Cook God naturally wasn’t going to let go of Michael looking down on his abilities. Even though he chose Michael as his successor, that didn’t mean he could let everything Michael did slide.
At this point, what else could Michael do but admit he was wrong? According to Cook God, if he insisted on doing it until every factor met the standard, who knew how long it would take. He didn’t feel he had that much free time. Besides, the ingredient problem was huge. Where would he find a dragon this big?
"Alright, fine. I was a frog at the bottom of a well, didn’t know how high the sky or how thick the earth was. But why did you choose me?"
Enough with the trivial matters, now for the main event. Even though Cook God never openly admitted it, from beginning to end it was enough for Michael to understand at least some of the reason he got to come to this place a second time.
"The reason? Hmm, let me think... During the time I’ve been waiting for a successor until now, there have been a total of two individuals from other places. But you are a bit special, you have something on you resembling a god. The other one didn’t really have a connection with me, so choosing you was still more suitable."
Cook God scratched his chin, his gaze intently watching Michael as if it could pierce through all of his deepest, most hidden secrets.
Michael was a bit apprehensive, but in the end, he still stayed calm so as not to reveal any weaknesses. Before clarifying this matter, he wasn’t foolish enough to reveal his identity as a genie. After all, who knew what a deity much stronger than him could do? What if he got taken away for research? That would be a huge loss.
"I see you’re still living quite well. Why go looking for a successor?"
This was a question Michael couldn’t figure out no matter how he thought about it. Why Eat God was so determined to find a successor, he hadn’t had time to ask Leo clearly. And why did Cook God make a similar choice? Gods are immortal and so powerful, why must they do this?
"Alive? No, you’re mistaken. Actually, I died at least tens of thousands of years ago." Cook God didn’t hide it at all and revealed it directly.
Michael was dumbfounded, unable to understand how such a powerful existence could have died. Moreover, if he’s already dead, then how is it possible to meet him here? Could this thing be like artificial intelligence? The more he thought, the more his thoughts drifted off to some distant place.
Cook God might not have the ability to read minds, but seeing Michael’s expression of wildly thinking made his eyelids twitch.
"What nonsense are you thinking? Gods are indeed immortal and ageless, even after death they can be reborn in the future, but that doesn’t mean there’s no way to completely erase a god. Except for ’Heaven,’ or in other words, this world itself, any kind of existence has the possibility of dying."
If Michael kept thinking like this, he’d just guess wildly. Might as well tell him so he doesn’t act stupidly later and die some meaningless death. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"What kind of existence could actually kill you? And how?"
In theory, gods can also be killed, but the question is, by whom? Michael couldn’t imagine for a moment what level of power would be needed to kill a god. Especially the characteristic of being able to revive even after death made him even more suspicious. Judging by Cook God’s tone, he clearly could no longer be revived.
"To completely kill a god requires the power of a god. It’s like a fight to the death, one god dying has the potential to drag another god down with them."
"In other words, there was a god willing to trade their life for yours? What the hell did you do?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Michael felt his scalp go numb. You, a Cook God who just likes cooking, what did you do to make someone hate you enough to risk their life like that? Thinking this, he felt that Cook God was basically just a name made up by the giant in front of him, not his real name.
"Hmph, just some trivial conflicts. Not worth mentioning." Cook God lazily replied.
The question of why he died was something he never really thought about. He wasn’t born like a normal creature, there was no growing up, no maturing. From the start, however strong he was, that’s how he remained when he died. A being born from nothingness eventually dissolving into nothingness, nothing to make a big deal about.
"Anyway, let’s not talk about this stuff anymore. Do you want to accept my inheritance or not?"
Seeing Cook God so eager to find a way to die, the corner of Michael’s mouth twitched. This was the first time he’d heard such a strange request.
"Alright, fine. But do you know any methods for cultivation? I mean the fastest method you know."
Michael thought that since gods have existed since ancient times, their knowledge must be vast. Maybe there’s some powerful cultivation secret?
"I don’t know how humans cultivate, but if one has a size as large as mine, then I suggest you eat. Eating is both satisfying and greatly increases strength, but the food must be nine-star energy monsters."
Hearing these words, Michael’s eyes trembled, and he wanted to curse Cook God to death in his heart. Size as large as a mountain? If he were that big, he wouldn’t be human either. And nine-star energy monsters? This was clearly referring to things at the level of that dragon. What did he have to catch them?
