I Am Genie-Chapter 39: Five Gods or Six Gods?
The stuff Cook God told Michael was completely useless, making him suspect the Cook God was holding a grudge over past events and wanted to mess with him to vent.
"What the hell are you talking about? None of the things you just said are usable by humans."
"I only answered the way I know. It’s not like I’m human, right?"
Cook God shook his head, putting on an innocent face, but Michael could clearly see the cunning in his eyes. Moreover, that fierce, evil-god-like face trying to look innocent was... really something hard to describe.
"Do you know anything else? Something that can help me increase my strength."
"Increase strength huh..." Cook God muttered and fell into thought.
Michael, after signing the contract with him, would gain similar abilities but couldn’t use them all immediately; they would be limited by his current level.
"If you’re talking about leveling up, I really have no other way. Your talent after signing the contract with me is ten stars. This is the best a human can have on this continent."
Hearing this, Michael’s expression showed a hint of disappointment. He thought there would be some stronger buff to make him an overpowered main character who would stir up this world.
But right after, he shook his head repeatedly and slapped himself. One must know contentment, shouldn’t let blind greed take over one’s mind.
Cook God was dumbfounded looking at Michael. He didn’t understand what this self-slapping behavior meant.
’I’m such a damned bastard. The continent’s fastest cultivation speed and I’m still not satisfied.’
Cursing himself a bit made him feel better. Thinking back, his luck was already excessively good. Both he and Leo were god-tier talents, the peak of an era. Who on this continent could stop him from making Leo king?
Thinking of this, his eyes suddenly narrowed. He realized he had unintentionally overlooked an extremely serious issue.
"Hey, just how many gods are there in this world?"
"Oh..." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Cook God hesitated a bit, scratching his head as if not very sure about this. This attitude made Michael feel the future was even more difficult because the number of gods must be more than he could imagine.
"You speak now. Just how many gods are there?"
"Ha ha, are you scared now?" Cook God didn’t answer the main point but used a mocking tone to provoke.
Michael was feeling very impatient to know the information but received a taunt instead, making the veins on his forehead bulge.
"You motherf*cker, explain it clearly to me! Don’t you dare change the subject."
Having confirmed he would receive Cook God’s legacy, Michael now didn’t hold back and yelled straight into the other’s face.
Cook God not only didn’t get angry but laughed. Michael not fearing a god was a good thing to him. If his inheritor was afraid of a god like that, then he had chosen wrong.
"Ha ha, what are you rushing for? I just don’t know how to answer, that’s all."
"You’re not clear means what? Could it be there are too many gods you can’t remember them all?"
Saying this, Michael felt the future, which hadn’t been bright for long, became dark and obscure. The scene of our side having two gods, the enemy side having twenty gods appeared in his head, followed by the punishment of imprisonment for a thousand years, making him extremely listless.
"Hey, where are you imagining? Gods aren’t as many as you think."
Though he couldn’t read thoughts, looking at Michael’s current demeanor, Cook God guessed a bunch of nameless gods were appearing in his head right now.
"You tell me, just how many are there? If there are too many I’ll go prepare a really good coffin to just lie down in and be done with it." Michael sighed listlessly.
Of course this lifeless, powerless talk wasn’t his real intention. Anyway, being imprisoned in the bronze oil lamp for a thousand years, he definitely had to get some benefits before dying.
"Not that many, when I died there were only five gods total. Moreover, this is the total from the dawn of life on this continent."
Hearing Cook God’s affirmation, Michael immediately revived, full of vitality. His heroic ambition, his heart set on the future. The haughty demeanor of one who will conquer the peak of this era. This era belongs to me!
’From the dawn of time until his death, only five gods. Until now, it’s possible the number is still the same. Based on this number, the other gods have probably died too, so the worst future is I’ll face their inheritors. Wait a second, there’s still one god left.’
Michael’s expression suddenly turned grave, this news was a bit big. A genuine, real god still alive is a huge variable.
"What about the last one?"
"Got killed. I don’t know when she’ll revive either." Cook God said indifferently, his tone revealing no hatred or conflict.
"Killed? How could she die? Eat God and you traded for two other gods, so what did the last one die for?"
The more Michael listened, the more confused he got, feeling some not-so-good secret was about to be revealed. His intuition this time was extremely strong.
"Those two gods held three divine artifacts and a bit of power from a god not yet born, that’s how they managed it."
This sudden news exploded in Michael’s brain like a bomb. So were there six gods total or five?
"What do you mean? So there are six gods total?"
"No, that god is a bit strange. Her divine artifact appeared before she did. Seems like Heaven deliberately did that to boost humanity’s power a bit to balance the world."
???
What’s this about boosting humanity’s power? After all that, turns out you’re some kind of evil god, right? You killed humanity’s god and now you’re helping humanity? My brain... my brain is overloaded!
Michael felt his proud intellect now seemed insufficient. Just what the hell happened tens of thousands of years ago?
