I Am Not A Goblin Slayer-Chapter 441 - 262: The Meaning of Magic
The third day in Goat Village.
Since there was no one in the village with a priest’s talent, Serdur simply helped guide the "Melee Class," allowing Gauss to focus on teaching his young apprentice. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Lyn was a talented child.
In the world of professionals, egalitarianism was never practiced.
Therefore, Gauss took extra care in teaching her.
The two of them arrived by the clear stream.
Listening to the gurgling of the flowing stream, while further explaining the Flaming Arrow.
Gauss occasionally raised his hand to cast a Flaming Arrow, using it to explain to Lyn.
Every fiery red streak across the sky would bring a look of longing in Lyn’s eyes.
Magic, for her, a little girl from an ordinary village, was simply too beautiful and wonderful.
Along with it, Gauss’s image in her heart also became more grand.
She had never seen someone so strong, beautiful yet gentle, in her life.
Gauss was unaware of Lyn’s thoughts; he just explained meticulously, over and over again, breaking down the essentials and difficulties of Flaming Arrow for Lyn.
Lyn also learned very quickly.
Gauss could tell that she was not pretending to understand but truly grasped the content he was teaching.
He seemed to understand a bit how Adelle and Rachel felt when they were teaching him not so long ago.
"Teacher, I feel like I’ve got it, but... I can’t use it,"
Lyn lowered her head, feeling a bit downcast.
She felt that even though her teacher explained everything so well, she still couldn’t produce any spark like a block of wood.
Without evidence to show her progress, she even worried that Gauss would think she was a lying child.
But she didn’t want to say she made no progress either; that would also disappoint Gauss.
She didn’t want to disappoint her teacher.
But, contrary to what she imagined,
Gauss simply smiled at her predicament and was not bothered.
"I believe you’ve mastered it."
"Really? Then why can’t I cast magic like you do, teacher?" Lyn raised her head, her eyes sparkling but soon filled with confusion.
"Because you’re too young, and your Magic Power isn’t enough, naturally you can’t cast Flaming Arrow,"
Gauss explained the reason.
What restricted her were her age and physical development.
The vast majority of professionals, especially the melee types, often needed to be sixteen or seventeen to get started because, before that, their bodies were not fully developed.
For casters and similar professions, it might be slightly better, but being just over ten is still a rather tender age.
Even though Magic Power is mainly linked to mental attributes, it is still constrained by the body.
"I see." Lyn felt a bit happy.
Actually, she didn’t really understand the mysteries of magic now; she just didn’t want to disappoint her teacher.
Gauss, with nothing else to do,
suddenly turned to look at Lyn sitting cross-legged on the grass.
"Lyn, do you want to fly like a bird?"
"Eh?" Lyn didn’t quite understand what he meant, tilting her head. "I’ve thought about it, yes."
Assuming the teacher was just chatting casually.
"Like this."
Gauss quickly cast a Feather Fall Technique and Flying Technique on himself.
Then his body slowly rose into the air.
Lyn watched him floating lightly in the air, her eyes wide open.
He really flew?
How amazing.
"Hold out your hand."
Lyn quickly wiped her hand on her clothes and then raised it to Gauss.
Magic Power from the Feather Fall Technique and Flying Technique was gently applied onto her.
Then he took Lyn by the hand and flew into the sky.
Lyn shut her eyes tight in fright.
Her eyelids trembled continuously.
Though her eyes were closed, she could feel her body rising upwards, and faster and faster.
"Alright, you can open your eyes now."
After a while, Gauss spoke.
He was now quite proficient at using the Flying Technique.
Upon hearing Gauss’s words, Lyn timidly opened her eyes.
What she first saw was the vast blue sky; it was different from how it looked from the ground, the scenery was purer here.
So blue without a trace of impurities.
"It’s beautiful."
However, when she looked down, an overwhelming dizziness rushed to her head, making her feel faint.
She quickly tightened her grip on Gauss’s hand.
"Don’t worry, you won’t fall." Gauss encouraged.
Though little Lyn had not yet mastered Magic Power, he wanted her to experience the enchanting charm of magic in advance through this method.
"Is it really okay?"
"Yes, trust me," Gauss nodded and assured her.
The maintenance of the Flying Technique depends on the caster; as long as he maintained control, there wouldn’t be a risk of falling, even if little Lyn fainted from fright.
And, wasn’t he right there with her?
His flying speed was definitely faster than hers.
After receiving Gauss’s assurance, Lyn felt more confident.
Now, Gauss had become an authority on magic in her heart; such a remarkable person couldn’t possibly deceive her.
She timidly let go of Gauss’s hand.
As expected, just like her teacher said.
She realized that even without Gauss, her body was still amazingly floating in mid-air.
"So light...."
She didn’t know if that was an accurate expression.
But she felt like she had turned into a bundle of cotton or a cloud.
"You can try flying freely, up, down, left, right, anywhere you want to go."
Quickly, with a thought,
the Magic Power entwined around her seemed to sense her thoughts, and began to guide her body in the corresponding direction.
