Chapter 21 - 21 - Doubts
While laughing, Sophia and her mother approached their father, who was watching Noah lying on the bed with a serious expression mixed with surprise – there were no more holes in the boy's body, and his bones... they were still there...?
"What happened, Dad...?" asked Sophia, noticing the strange look on her father's face.
"Now that I look more closely... him..." frёeωebɳovel.com
"Him?" inquired Sophia's mother, stepping slightly away from her and moving toward her husband.
"This boy... his bones are intact."
"What? There's a whole basket outside that says exactly the opposite," said Mrs. Radiance.
"And besides," he continued, "this boy... I believe he's evolved since the last time I saw him."
"Huh? And what's wrong with that? Is he alright or not?"
Neither Mrs. Radiance nor Sophia could understand why he was so surprised and impressed; to them it was only natural—after all, if someone trains, they obviously progress, right? At least, that's what both of them had always thought.
"You don't understand? It was practically impossible for him to cultivate in that state," explained Sophia's father.
On hearing that, both Mr. Radiance and the two women looked at Noah with astonishment, confused as to what he exactly meant. Then Sophia asked,
"Impossible? But why would it be impossible for him to cultivate?"
(Sighing) — "I believe the state his body was in is proof enough, don't you think? His bones were practically leaping out of his body – until they eventually did, it seems – his muscles had twisted, and his organs were so tightly surrounded by the sharp edges of his shattered bones that one false move would have pierced his heart."
"...But I can see him breathing..." said Sophia, fearfully.
Sophia was dumbfounded; she had thought that the boy would die from his injuries. Her father looked at her and, seeing the fear in his daughter's eyes, smiled to calm her.
He sighed and said,
"When we found him, I said he couldn't speak, didn't I? That was because his vocal cords had been severed and the inside of his throat crushed—allowing at most a few anguished groans of pain to be heard if he exerted himself too much given the overwhelming intensity of his pain. His body was as weak as that of someone with no martial arts training, or worse... much worse."
After hearing all that, small tears began to stream down Sophia's face; she put her hands to her mouth and looked at Noah's expression—a face so unyielding, with such a calm demeanor it seemed he felt nothing.
As Sophia wept, her mother embraced her and gently kissed her forehead. Shortly afterward, trying to soothe her daughter, she asked,
"But how is he now? Is his body still in as bad a shape as it was before?"
After slowly shaking his head from side to side, Mr. Radiance replied,
"There is nothing wrong with his body anymore..."
As incredulous as his wife and daughter, he continued,
"It's as though the bones that were expelled have simply been replaced by new ones. His muscles are in perfect condition and aligned—there are no flaws. His organs are functioning perfectly. And..."
"And?" Sophia questioned impatiently.
"...I can no longer feel any Qi in that boy."
"Then he lost all his cultivation..?" asked Sophia's mother. Her thoughtful husband looked at Noah and answered,
"...or he's reached such a level that I simply cannot access it."
"What? For that to be so, he'd have to..."
"Yes... He'd have to be, at the very least, at the Foundation Establishment level... roughly equivalent to 20 years..."
