Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Distributing the Spoils

The few Cocoon Stage Hunters were about to strike again, wanting to extinguish the last spark of life in the Undying Salamander.

No matter how strong the Undying Salamander’s regenerative ability was, if it were chopped into eight pieces, or even eighty, it definitely wouldn’t survive.

But just then, the Undying Salamander recovered from the effects of the mental attack. An incredibly dazzling, orange light of evolution suddenly flared up from its body, and a surging wave of life energy instantly filled it.

The next moment, as if by a miracle, its limbs, tail, and even its heart and head were instantly restored to their original state!

All its injuries healed in an instant!

Whether it was being decapitated or having its heart shattered, these would be fatal wounds for any other creature, causing instant death. Yet, not only did the Undying Salamander not die, but it also used a skill to instantly heal all its wounds. Truly worthy of the name "Undying" Salamander.

After recovering, the Undying Salamander immediately broke through the encirclement formed by the Cocoon Stage Hunters and put some distance between them.

It couldn’t use such a heaven-defying recovery skill a second time in short order. Having been forced to use its life-saving ability, the highly intelligent Undying Salamander recognized the danger and was no longer as reckless as before. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

The six Cocoon Stage Hunters all looked regretful for not having seized the opportunity to kill the Undying Salamander. However, their efforts weren’t entirely in vain. Forcing the beast to use its life-saving skill had reduced its will to fight to rock bottom.

If not for the influence of the Beast King’s Roar, the Undying Salamander would have probably fled long ago.

Without the fearless Undying Salamander charging at the front, the pressure on the six Cocoon Stage Hunters lessened considerably. Coupled with the increasing number of Pupa Stage Hunters freeing themselves up to help, the tide of the battle actually began to turn.

Before long, with the coordination of several Cocoon Stage Hunters, Liou Wenxin once again struck a Tier 2 exotic beast with the Head of the Wailer.

This Tier 2 D-rank Iron Clamp Crab wasn’t nearly as durable as the Undying Salamander and was ganged up on and beaten to death by the Hunters.

"Hold on! There’s less than two minutes left!"

By this point in the fight, nearly half of the Hunters were wounded.

Two Cocoon Stage Hunters had completely lost their ability to fight and retreated to the rear to treat their injuries. Among the Pupa Stage Hunters, three had died and several others were seriously wounded.

On the exotic beasts’ side, the ground was littered with the corpses of Tier 1 beasts. One Tier 2 beast was also dead, while three others were clearly injured. Like the Undying Salamander, they had lost their will to fight and were just slacking off at the sidelines.

The situation gradually became clearer. It wouldn’t be a problem for the Hunters to hold out for the last two minutes.

Just then, Su Ze’s sharp eyes spotted a figure limping out from the mountain forest to the side.

It was the missing Li Gaojie. He was covered in blood, his clothes were in tatters, and his body was covered in wounds. He was even dragging an exotic beast’s corpse in each hand.

Su Ze wasn’t the only one who noticed Li Gaojie; the other Hunters all cast surprised glances his way. ’He didn’t run away?’

"Li Gaojie, where have you been?" someone asked.

"I went off to the side to take a dump during the night and suddenly realized you were surrounded by the beast pack. I couldn’t break back in, so I could only intercept some of the exotic beasts that were coming as reinforcements from the outside."

Li Gaojie casually threw the two exotic beast corpses to the ground and wiped the blood from his forehead.

"Oh, so that’s what happened." Seeing his condition, the crowd didn’t doubt his story.

’Am I overthinking this...?’ Su Ze frowned, feeling a little uncertain, but he remained wary of Li Gaojie.

There weren’t many exotic beasts left alive, so they could no longer encircle Su Ze and the others. They just had to hold out for a little over a minute, and they would be safe.

Seeing his scheme fall apart, the expression of the man in the suit, who had been locked in battle with Mrs. Yun, grew increasingly grim.

There was nothing wrong with his plan. The only variable was that damned Tier 2 exotic item!

If it weren’t for the Head of the Wailer, that exotic item, helping the Hunters kill a large number of Tier 1 beasts, Su Ze’s team would have been overrun long ago. They never would have lasted this long.

"When did you get this exotic item?" the man in the suit asked through gritted teeth. "The last time we fought, you didn’t have it!"

Mrs. Yun remained silent, sighing internally. It was true. Had they possessed this exotic item during their last encounter, their casualties wouldn’t have been so devastating, reducing them to just her and Liou Wenxin fleeing to Mu Country.

The strength of the Head of the Wailer lay in its ability to crush any life-form below the Cocoon Stage, which perfectly countered the Beast Tide Skill of the Beast King’s Roar.

The man in the suit suddenly drifted backward, putting distance between himself and Mrs. Yun. Then, with a burst of speed, he vanished into the mountain forest.

With his plan a failure, he had no choice but to retreat early. Otherwise, once the Beast King’s Roar wore off and the beast pack withdrew, he would have to face the combined assault of all the Hunters.

Mrs. Yun took a few quick steps as if to give chase but ultimately stopped. Her primary mission was to protect Liou Wenxin, and leaving now might put Liou Wenxin in danger.

"Mrs. Yun, a little help!" Su Ze shouted, pointing at the Undying Salamander lingering on the outskirts and making frantic "please" gestures.

"Don’t be so familiar. I’m old enough to be your mother," Mrs. Yun shot him a glare.

"Mom," Su Ze called out obediently.

’I was born a clone in this life anyway, with no father or mother. What’s wrong with accepting a mom?’

He wanted to feel the warmth of a mother’s love, too.

Mrs. Yun was exasperated, but Su Ze’s antics managed to wash away the trace of sadness in her heart.

Meeting Su Ze’s expectant gaze, Mrs. Yun leaped over to the Undying Salamander.

Sensing the danger, the Undying Salamander’s four short legs moved with surprising speed as it tried to bolt. But before it could take more than a few steps, Mrs. Yun grabbed it by the scruff of its neck, sealing its fate.

Mrs. Yun lifted the two-meter-long Undying Salamander. Her Butterfly Stage body easily resisted its toxins without a shred of fear. Before the salamander could even struggle, an electric current burst from her palm—a hundred-thousand-volt shock that sent the smell of cooked meat wafting all the way to Su Ze.

No matter how strong the Undying Salamander’s Self-Healing Ability was, it was useless now. It had gone to meet the God of Evolution.

Just then, the ten minutes were finally up. The Beast King’s Roar wore off, and the remaining exotic beasts scattered and fled.

The Hunters were all exhausted and didn’t pursue the fleeing beasts. With the crisis over, they collapsed to the ground one by one, gasping for breath, not even bothering to collect the loot that littered the battlefield.

Liou Wenxin and Mrs. Yun immediately went to treat the wounded. They carried a good supply of healing potions and Antitoxic Serums from Life Pharmaceutical.

’I’m still too inexperienced,’ Su Ze thought. ’It didn’t even occur to me to prepare such medical supplies.’

After everyone had rested for a bit, they began the part everyone cared about most: distributing the spoils of war.

Because the previous battle had been too chaotic, aside from a few beasts that could be clearly attributed to specific killers, the loot from the rest had to be divided up equally.

Everyone first took stock of the exotic beast corpses covering the ground. In this battle, they had killed two Tier 2 exotic beasts and fifty-six Tier 1 exotic beasts.

The two Tier 2 exotic beasts were the D-rank Iron Clamp Crab and the S-rank Undying Salamander.

Su Ze’s gaze was fixed on the Undying Salamander’s corpse. He didn’t care about any of the other loot; he only wanted the extract from the Undying Salamander.
