I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate-Chapter 33: Regeneration Body
Su Ze had already looked up information regarding the Undying Salamander extract.
Undying Salamander Extract
Level: Tier 2, S-Class
Obtainable Skills: Poisonous Skin, Giant Tail Whip, Regeneration Body
There were three skills that could be obtained from the Undying Salamander extract.
The first, Poisonous Skin, covered the user’s body in a deadly poison. The Undying Salamander’s toxin had evolved from tetrodotoxin. It was extremely potent and could be administered through mere contact, causing its victims to suffer gradual paralysis and eventual death.
Giant Tail Whip was a powerful offensive skill. Its effect was self-explanatory, but since humans lacked tails, the user would attack with their legs instead.
As for the Regeneration Body skill, it was the one Su Ze dreamed of. It was the very reason the Undying Salamander was S-Class, and could be considered the most "broken" skill among all Tier 2 beasts.
Regeneration Body: Grants the user powerful regenerative abilities, allowing them to rapidly recover from any physical injury. The user can form a "Regeneration Core" anywhere inside their body. When this core shatters, the life energy it contains instantly heals all injuries.
Simply put, the Regeneration Body skill had both a "passive" and an "active" effect.
The passive effect enhanced the body’s Self-Healing Ability. No matter how severe the injury, as long as the user wasn’t dead, they could recover—even regrowing severed limbs.
The active effect was the ability to form a "Regeneration Core"—a concentration of immense life energy—anywhere in the body. Once its position was set, it could not be moved. A new one could only be formed after the previous one shattered.
When the Regeneration Core shattered, the resulting surge of life energy would instantly heal all injuries. It could be shattered voluntarily by the user or broken by an external force.
However, after a Regeneration Core shattered, forming a new one required a significant amount of time. In other words, the skill had a very long cooldown.
It was no exaggeration to say that having this skill was like having an extra life.
It was clear that even among S-Class skills, a Tier 2 version was significantly stronger than the Tier 1 S-Class skills Su Ze already possessed.
Although Su Ze coveted this skill, he wasn’t certain he would actually get it.
’I just don’t know if I’ll be able to freely choose my skill this time.’
’If not, I’ll have to rely on luck. It’ll be a random one-in-three choice.’
He liked making a choice, not playing the lottery.
Compared to the last time he’d absorbed an extract of a higher tier, this process was much simpler. It concluded smoothly and without incident.
As Su Ze felt the last wisp of Evolutionary Material from the Undying Salamander extract being absorbed into his body, anticipation bloomed within him. A familiar sensation washed over him, and his consciousness was pulled into a white void.
’It’s exactly the same as when I absorbed the Rock Scorpion extract!’
’This means I can choose my skill again!’
’And most likely, this ability will stick with me, allowing me to freely choose my skill every time I absorb an extract in the future.’
Su Ze was ecstatic. This ability was no less valuable than his Divine Grace of Evolution. In fact, when paired together, the combination was downright insane!
He reined in his thoughts and focused his attention on the three clouds of orange mist in the white void.
These three clouds of orange mist were far larger and deeper in color than the ones from the Rock Scorpion extract. The orange evolutionary light they emanated was so dense it seemed almost tangible.
From the largest of the orange clouds, Su Ze could feel a vibrant, pulsating life force. Without a doubt, this was the one that represented the Regeneration Body skill.
With no hesitation, Su Ze plunged headfirst into the cloud of mist. The next instant, his consciousness returned to his body, and he slowly opened his eyes.
"How did it go?" Liou Wenxin asked with concern. She could tell Su Ze had successfully absorbed the extract; what she wanted to know was which skill he had acquired.
"Got lucky. I acquired the Regeneration Skill," Su Ze said with a wide grin, unable to hide his delight.
He could feel a surging vitality coursing through every cell in his body!
"Really?!" Liou Wenxin exclaimed, a smile spreading across her face. She was genuinely happy for Su Ze.
"Mhm!" Su Ze nodded, then asked for her advice. "Liou Wenxin, this skill requires me to form a Regeneration Core inside my body. Where do you think would be the best place for it?"
Liou Wenxin tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear and paused in thought, as if searching a vast internal database for the relevant information.
After a moment, she answered, "That’s actually a very important consideration. Human anatomy is different from an Undying Salamander’s. An Undying Salamander can survive even if its head is cut off or its heart is destroyed. But for a human evolver, even with the Regeneration Skill, those two areas remain fatal weak points."
Su Ze had suspected as much and nodded. "So, if my heart is destroyed or my head is smashed, I’ll die instantly."
"Exactly. You can shatter the Regeneration Core yourself, but danger can strike too fast for you to react. For example, if an enemy smashes your head, you’ll die instantly. You’d have no time to shatter the core."
"So, I suggest you form the Regeneration Core in your brain or heart... No, on second thought, the brain is better."
Su Ze understood Liou Wenxin’s reasoning. If he placed the Regeneration Core in his brain, then even if his brain were destroyed, the core would be shattered along with it. He wouldn’t need to break it himself—it would effectively trigger the skill passively.
That way, even if he were taken out by a headshot before he could react, he would still be revived once.
The same logic applied to placing it in his heart.
But why was the brain a better choice than the heart?
Su Ze voiced his confusion.
Liou Wenxin answered, "Because your brain is more critical in this scenario. If your head is destroyed, you lose consciousness instantly. If your heart is destroyed, you might retain a flicker of awareness. In that brief moment, you could still shatter the Regeneration Core yourself."
"Also, think about it: if you were beheaded, your last flicker of consciousness could shatter the Regeneration Core in your brain, allowing you to reconstruct your body from the neck down. You’d survive. But if the core were in your heart, the moment your head was severed, you’d be dead for good."
Su Ze thought Liou Wenxin’s words made perfect sense. He was receptive to good advice and immediately decided to form the Regeneration Core in his brain.
At Su Ze’s current level, forming a Regeneration Core would normally take about a month. However, since he had just absorbed the Undying Salamander extract, the residual vitality and undigested energy could help him form one immediately.
A moment later, a pure white, fingernail-sized core composed entirely of life force formed inside Su Ze’s brain. This Regeneration Core hovered between a physical and ethereal state and caused no interference with his mind. He focused on it for a moment and felt no discomfort.
In fact, having the Regeneration Core there gave him a profound sense of security.
