I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate-Chapter 35: Feng Bqing
The green light of evolution above grew brighter and brighter, illuminating the face of the Saint-level expert.
He was a handsome middle-aged man, but he had a multi-colored spiky hairdo that ruined his otherwise composed demeanor.
The middle-aged man’s punkish appearance was a perfect match for the mysterious expert who had made a deal with Zhao Lingxiao in his memories, leaving Su Ze certain of one thing.
’This punk Saint-level expert really is here for me!’
Facing a Saint-level expert directly, Su Ze and the others felt an involuntary sense of fear and submission welling up from the depths of their beings—a suppression originating from a higher level of life.
"The light of evolution can illuminate the darkness!" Liou Wenxin reminded them.
Everyone reacted at once. The middle-aged man with the punk hairstyle had used his own light of evolution to illuminate his surroundings. They immediately tried it themselves, and in the next instant, red, orange, and yellow lights of evolution lit up the ground.
"It really works, but the effect isn’t very strong."
The illuminating effect of their lights was far weaker than the middle-aged man’s. They could only light up a small circle around themselves. Even Mrs. Yun’s yellow light of evolution only illuminated a half-meter radius around her.
But in this strange darkness that devoured light and perception, this was the only way they could see their surroundings.
Mrs. Yun took a deep breath, looked up at the man above, and asked, "Who are you, sir? Why have you trapped us?"
"Mrs. Yun, he’s here for me." Su Ze let go of Liou Wenxin’s hand and took a step forward.
At this point, it was meaningless to hide or conceal the truth any longer.
There was a hint of guilt in Su Ze’s voice. Liou Wenxin and the others had already passed the most difficult trial, but now they were in peril again because of him. He had dragged the rest of the team down with him.
Su Ze’s words made everyone present turn their eyes toward him, wondering how a mere Pupa Stage individual could have provoked a Saint-level expert.
However, in the next second, the man in the air suddenly clapped and laughed, his eyes fixed on Su Ze.
"Well, what a surprise. You’re here too. This is great, a buy-one-get-one-free deal!"
Su Ze froze. ’What does he mean?’
’So he didn’t come specifically to hunt me down?’
’I’m just a bonus? An afterthought?’
Even with death seemingly imminent, Su Ze still felt a little awkward. He cursed his lack of the Burrowing Mouse’s digging skill; he was so embarrassed he could have dug a three-bedroom apartment with his toes.
But that raised a question. If the punk middle-aged man’s target wasn’t Su Ze, then who was it?
The answer was obvious.
The man’s gaze fell upon Liou Wenxin. He gave a dashing gentleman’s bow and said:
"I have come this time to invite Dr. Liou to join our organization. We are very sincere. As long as you agree, you can be, at minimum, a department director in our organization’s research institute. The compensation will be better than anywhere else, guaranteed."
Before Liou Wenxin could speak, Su Ze cut in, "Mister, you say you’re so sincere, but you haven’t even told us the name of your organization. That’s not a good look, is it?"
Su Ze only knew that everyone in the mysterious organization reeked, but he didn’t actually know what their organization was called.
"My apologies for being forward." The man smiled. "I am Feng Bqing, an elder of the Filth Earth Organization."
’Filth Earth Organization?’
Su Ze glanced at Feng Bqing’s multi-colored spiky hairdo and thought, ’Are you sure the organization behind you isn’t called the Burial Love Family?’
"Mr. Fen, what if I refuse your invitation?" Liou Wenxin asked.
"That’s fine as well. You can’t force a sweet melon from the vine. If you are unwilling, Dr. Liou, I won’t insist. However, the organization has given me a mission: I must obtain the formula you possess. And to verify its authenticity, I’m afraid I’ll have to invite Dr. Liou to be our guest for some time. We can only let you go after the formula’s effects have been confirmed."
Mrs. Yun spoke up again. "Your Filth Earth Organization is certainly well-informed. In that case, you should also know that we have fled all the way from the Ancient An Country to the Mu Country to protect this formula, sacrificing countless comrades along the way. Do you really think we would just hand it over to you?"
"That’s not for an old hag like you to decide." Feng Bqing’s gaze shifted to Liou Wenxin. "Dr. Liou, have you made your decision? Please give me an answer."
Dr. Liou shook her head, her tone resolute. "I was unwilling to hand the formula over to the Ancient An Country precisely because I feared it would be leaked and fall into the hands of people like you. Even if you kill me, I won’t say a thing."
Su Ze turned to look at Liou Wenxin, seeing the determination to face death on the face of this usually gentle and elegant older sister figure.
As a bystander, Su Ze had pieced together what Liou Wenxin and the others had gone through. Liou Wenxin clearly possessed an extremely important formula for an evolutionary medicine. Because of it, she had been hunted all the way from the Ancient An Country to the Mu Country. Many of those assigned to protect her had died, leaving only Mrs. Yun.
And now, the Filth Earth Organization had also taken a great interest in that formula, going so far as to send a Saint-level expert to intercept them.
Hearing Liou Wenxin’s answer, Feng Bqing shook his head in disappointment. "Since it has come to this, I’m afraid I’ll have to be discourteous."
Feng Bqing snapped his fingers. In the next instant, the sound of wind echoed in the darkness, as if something was approaching.
Su Ze and the others could only see about ten centimeters around themselves. They had no idea what lurked in the darkness. Danger could be right beside them, and they wouldn’t even notice.
The fear of the unknown made their hearts leap into their throats, and they unconsciously began to huddle together.
At that moment, the Hunters were filled with immense regret, wondering why they hadn’t abandoned the mission and left sooner.
Suddenly, they saw a shadow enter the range of their light, but it was too late to react.
It was a pair of large hands made of shadow. One grabbed Liou Wenxin, and the other grabbed Su Ze, dragging them both into the depths of the darkness.
As Su Ze was caught by the large shadow hand, he felt it was both tangible and ethereal. It seemed soft and yielding, yet it held him in an unbreakable grip.
Su Ze struggled desperately. If Liou Wenxin fell into the hands of the Filth Earth Organization, she might still have a chance to live. But if he were caught, there was only death. The Filth Earth Organization only wanted to turn him into an extract.
But no matter how much Su Ze struggled, even when using his Rhino Charge skill, he couldn’t break free from the shadow hand’s grasp.
Seeing Liou Wenxin captured, Mrs. Yun leaped in pursuit but was immediately knocked back by something in the darkness.
Mrs. Yun gave up on rescuing Liou Wenxin and instead turned to charge directly at Feng Bqing above.
She knew that if she could defeat Feng Bqing, she could still save Liou Wenxin.
However, the difference between the Butterfly Stage and a Saint-level was like the difference between heaven and earth. Mrs. Yun had evolved three times, while Feng Bqing had evolved four times. Although it was only a single evolution apart, the gap was an insurmountable chasm.
The Butterfly Stage still belonged to the Extraordinary tier of lifeforms. A fourth evolution meant becoming a Saint-level lifeform. This was a difference in their very level of existence.
Logically, it was impossible for Mrs. Yun to defeat Feng Bqing. She would likely be killed in an instant.
Mrs. Yun knew this, but she still charged toward Feng Bqing without any hesitation.
"Your loyalty is commendable, but foolish." Feng Bqing commented, a short black blade materializing in his hand as he stabbed toward Mrs. Yun.
Just then, Mrs. Yun suddenly tore the red-string pendant from her neck, revealing the charm that had been hidden beneath her collar. The object hanging from the red string was an eyeball.
An eyeball that glowed with a cyan light.
A fifth-tier wondrous item!
The Eye of Dream Weaving!
