I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate-Chapter 57: Fen, It’s Time to Take Your Medicine
Su Ze didn’t know what was happening above, but from the sounds, it seemed the fighting had resumed.
He was powerless to do anything but watch as Feng Bqing used the extractor to continuously draw out the Spirit Root Tree’s Evolutionary Material.
The Spirit Root Tree soon broke free of Feng Bqing’s control. However, it was severely wounded and had been drained of its Evolutionary Material. Weakened, it used the last of its strength to counterattack.
Countless roots either wove into a net or lashed out like whips, crashing down on Feng Bqing in an attempt to destroy the extractor behind him.
But Feng Bqing stood his ground in front of the extractor, his hands wreathed in black energy, continuously severing or corroding the incoming roots.
When an occasional attack slipped past his defenses, he simply took the blow with his body.
’A Saint-level physique is truly formidable,’ Su Ze thought. ’It’s a good thing the Spirit Root Tree can’t be bothered with me. I wouldn’t be able to withstand a single lash.’
He silently cheered on the Spirit Root Tree, hoping it could take Feng Bqing down with it.
However, as the extractor continued its work, the Spirit Root Tree’s resistance grew feebler, and Feng Bqing handled its attacks with increasing ease.
Finally, the extractor finished producing a vial of green extract.
The Spirit Root Tree’s flailing roots fell limp, unmoving. The evolutionary glow emanating from its trunk and roots faded completely.
The Spirit Root Tree, a Spiritual Plant on the verge of Tier 5, was dead!
’It’s over!’
Su Ze knew that once Feng Bqing was free, he would be the next target.
Sure enough, without even removing the Spirit Root Tree extract from the machine, Feng Bqing beckoned to Su Ze. Instantly, a large shadow hand seized Su Ze and brought him before him.
"What skill did you get from Miss Zhuzhi’s extract?"
Feng Bqing asked, his eyes icy cold.
Su Ze froze, not expecting Feng Bqing to ask such a question.
’Could it be that his Filth Earth Organization doesn’t know about the Divine Grace of Evolution skill?’
’Then why did they want Miss Zhuzhi’s extract?’
’Or perhaps, they knew Miss Zhuzhi had a powerful skill, but they didn’t know its effect!’
A thousand thoughts raced through Su Ze’s mind in an instant. He played dumb. "I just absorbed an S-rank skill, Rhino Charge."
’Absorbing skills is a completely random process, anyway. If I say I got unlucky and didn’t get the strongest skill from the extract, who’s to say whether I’m lying or not?’
Feng Bqing laughed, a neurotic edge to his voice. "Miss Zhuzhi had a skill that came from a Bloodline Crystal. Skills of this type have a unique property: they are always absorbed. No matter how many other skills were in her extract, you were guaranteed to get that one."
"So, stop with the clever little tricks. Otherwise, I’ll let you experience what it’s like to have your Evolutionary Material extracted while you’re still alive."
’Guaranteed to be absorbed? The Divine Grace of Evolution skill has a property like that?’
’And what in the world is a Bloodline Crystal?’
Su Ze understood that, having fallen into Feng Bqing’s hands, he would certainly be killed and turned into an extract.
The only reason Feng Bqing hadn’t killed him outright and was wasting time with questions was to figure out the skill’s effect. That would determine how he handled Su Ze’s own extract.
If Feng Bqing knew how powerful the Divine Grace of Evolution skill was, he might just keep the extract for himself.
Conversely, if the skill Su Ze had absorbed wasn’t particularly powerful, Feng Bqing would probably hand his extract over to the Filth Earth Organization.
Su Ze had no idea what a Bloodline Crystal was, but he knew Divine Grace of Evolution was a game-breakingly powerful skill. Other skills from Bloodline Crystals were unlikely to be as strong.
Just as Su Ze was trying to concoct an answer to stall for time, he saw Feng Bqing’s expression begin to change. The very thing one might call intelligence seemed to be draining from his eyes.
Seeing Feng Bqing’s vacant, dopey expression, Su Ze was overjoyed.
’I know that look!’
’Heaven has not forsaken me, Qiangzi!’
Feng Bqing seemed to be struggling, his eyes flickering between lucidity and a foolish daze.
Su Ze quickly pushed him over the edge. "I’m Qiangzi!"
"You... you’re Qiangzi?" Feng Bqing looked at him, hesitating.
"That’s right! I’m Qiangzi!"
"That’s wonderful! Qiangzi, you didn’t leave! That’s wonderful!"
The shadow hand holding Su Ze instantly dissipated. The moment he hit the ground, Su Ze made a beeline for the Spirit Root Tree’s trunk.
’I have to drink all the Tree Marrow!’
The fact that Feng Bqing had relapsed into madness proved his mental trauma hadn’t been healed.
Feng Bqing had lasted this long on just a small sip of Tree Marrow. If he drank more, he might actually be cured for good.
Su Ze had to act first and drain this "bowl" of Tree Marrow.
He couldn’t let Feng Bqing forget Qiangzi.
Feng Bqing had previously smashed a large hole in the Spirit Root Tree’s trunk. Su Ze peered inside the hollow and saw a pool of green liquid, roughly a large bowl’s worth.
Su Ze ducked his head in and began to GULP it down. At the same time, he pulled out a small vial, intending to fill it for Mrs. Yun.
The Tree Marrow’s main functions were healing and life extension, but Su Ze felt it was of little use to him; he wasn’t injured, and he was still young.
’It’s pretty tasty, though,’ he thought. ’Tastes a bit like mung bean soup.’
Su Ze guzzled it down, and in the blink of an eye, half the Tree Marrow was gone.
But just then, Feng Bqing suddenly mumbled, "No, that’s not right... I’m hurt. I need to drink..."
As he spoke, his eyes landed on Su Ze drinking the Tree Marrow.
"Need to drink... I need to drink..."
Feng Bqing strode forward, shoved Su Ze aside, and went to bury his own head in the remaining half-bowl of Tree Marrow. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Su Ze was knocked to the ground. "Is this how you treat Qiangzi?!" he roared.
Hearing this, Feng Bqing only paused for a moment before plunging his head into the Tree Marrow and starting to gulp it down greedily.
The small sip of Tree Marrow he’d taken earlier had healed a sliver of his mental trauma. He wasn’t quite as far gone now, and could no longer be fooled by Su Ze just mentioning Qiangzi’s name.
"Fen, you’ve changed!"
Su Ze cried out, heartbroken.
"I guess you don’t care that much about Qiangzi after all."
Su Ze’s heart sank. He knew that once Feng Bqing regained his sanity, there would be no escape.
In a flash of desperate inspiration, Su Ze’s gaze suddenly shifted to the vial of the Spirit Root Tree’s extract on the machine.
Within the extract’s green evolutionary glow, a faint hint of cyan could be seen.
The Spirit Root Tree had been interrupted during its fifth evolution, so the extract already possessed some characteristics of a Tier 5 substance.
Su Ze scrambled over, grabbed the vial of extract, and quickly poured it into the tree trunk.
"Fen, time to take your medicine."
The liquid extract mixed with the remaining Tree Marrow in the trunk, and with a single SLURP, Feng Bqing swallowed the entire concoction.
’You like to drink so much? Then have a little extra!’
Su Ze backed away silently, observing Feng Bqing’s reaction.
’Humans can’t directly absorb a Spirit Plant Extract. What happens if you drink one?’
’Past data indicates a high probability of death.’
’But Feng Bqing’s situation was unique, so Su Ze wasn’t sure what would happen.’
