Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Feng Bqing Is Even Crazier

Research showed that when human evolvers absorbed Spirit Plant Extract, over ninety percent of them died outright. The few who survived suffered severe adverse reactions.

To put it simply, even if they didn’t die, they’d be crippled.

However, this was only true for those who absorbed Spirit Plant Extract as an Evolutionary Material—meaning they had absorbed an extract one level higher than their own.

As a Saint-level Overlord who had evolved four times, Feng Bqing should have been absorbing a fifth-tier extract as his Evolutionary Material.

But the extract from the Spirit Root Tree only had some characteristics of a fifth-tier extract; it hadn’t truly reached the fifth tier.

Therefore, Su Ze had no idea if it could actually poison Feng Bqing to death.

It was very possible it would just be like taking the wrong medicine—causing some adverse reactions, but nothing fatal.

On top of that, Feng Bqing had just drunk a large amount of Tree Marrow. That was a Holy Medicine for healing that could repair any injury. If something unexpected did happen, the Tree Marrow would probably save his life.

Su Ze was out of options. He could only give it a try. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

He was already prepared to take the chance and slip away the moment he saw Feng Bqing show any severe adverse reactions.

After Feng Bqing drank all the liquid from the trunk, he just stood there, completely still, as if he’d been hit with an Immobilization Skill.

In his eyes was the same dopey look Su Ze had come to recognize.

No reaction?

’Did the toxicity of the Spirit Plant Extract and the healing effects of the Tree Marrow cancel each other out?’

Su Ze mustered his courage, stepped forward, and called out to him, but got no response.

’Has he gone completely stupid? ... Whatever, who cares? Isn’t this the perfect chance for me to escape?’

He turned to leave but suddenly thought of something. He glanced at the bulging mass covered by roots to the side and stopped.

He waved a hand in front of Feng Bqing’s face. Still no reaction. This confirmed for Su Ze that he really had gone vacant.

Su Ze grew bolder. ’I took such a huge risk,’ he thought. ’I can’t walk away with nothing to show for it.’

He ran over, pulled the portable extractor from the Spirit Root Tree, and went to the beast corpse wrapped in roots. He struggled to move a few of the roots covering it, revealing a patch of tiger hide underneath.

This was the corpse of the fourth-tier Tiger Beast that had been drained to death by the Spirit Root Tree earlier.

Su Ze raised the extractor high above his head and forcefully plunged it into the tiger hide. The sharp needle pierced the Tiger Beast’s corpse, and after Su Ze flipped the switch, it began to extract the Evolutionary Material from within.

The Spirit Root Tree mainly consumed the nutrients from the Tiger Beast’s flesh and blood, along with its evolutionary power. Making an extract, on the other hand, primarily involved extracting the beast’s Evolutionary Material and a small amount of evolutionary power. The two processes didn’t conflict.

Therefore, unless a beast’s corpse was highly decomposed or severely damaged, it could still be used to create an extract.

Before long, a vial of fourth-tier extract was ready.

Su Ze took the extract and turned to leave.

But he hadn’t taken two steps before he stopped again, looking back at the ebony ring on Feng Bqing’s finger.

’I’m getting too greedy. This is how you get yourself killed...’ Su Ze reflected internally, but his body was very honest as it walked right up to Feng Bqing and reached for the ring on his hand.

After all, this was a Storage Ring with its own internal space!

Who could possibly turn down a Storage Ring?

Not to mention one that contained the entire life savings of a Saint-level Overlord.

’Yoink!’

However, when Su Ze grabbed the ring and pulled, it wouldn’t come off. Something was blocking it.

Su Ze took a closer look at the finger wearing the ring and stumbled back several steps in shock.

Leaves were growing on Feng Bqing’s finger!

No, not just his finger. His face, his hair, his chest, his thighs... sprouts were emerging from all over his body.

They weren’t real leaves, but human flesh and tissue. Su Ze could clearly see the texture of human skin on those "leaf blades."

And the "veins" on the leaves were actually blood vessels!

Feng Bqing’s fingers, and even his entire arm, began to deform—stretching, elongating, gradually taking on the appearance of a tree branch.

His skin all over grew as rough as bark, and his hair grew into fine, tiny rootlets...

Something was burrowing out from inside his eyeballs, growing into small, writhing, tentacle-like buds of flesh.

Goosebumps erupted all over Su Ze’s body, and a chill crept into his heart.

Holy shit!

Feng Bqing was turning into a plant person!

Su Ze no longer dared to covet Feng Bqing’s Storage Ring. He turned and fled, resolute this time.

But just as he turned, a hoarse, grating, heart-wrenching voice cried out from behind him, "Qiangzi, don’t go!"

"Qiangzi, how can I live without you!"

Su Ze’s pace quickened. He even used the wonder item, the Traceless Walker, to increase his speed.

SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!

The sound of branches and leaves dragging on the ground came from behind. Su Ze knew it was the sound of Feng Bqing walking—Feng Bqing was getting closer.

He felt a chill shoot up his spine straight to the crown of his head, making him wish he could sprout another two legs.

In his panic, Su Ze chose a tunnel at random and dove in.

The spherical cavern was now riddled with tunnels of all sizes, left behind when the Spirit Root Tree retracted its roots.

After Su Ze dove into the tunnel, the ground shook again. He heard a commotion from outside, the sound of something collapsing, followed by people talking.

He could faintly make out the voices of Ye Muni and Amida among them.

’Those four from above are here!’

Su Ze pushed forward at full speed, burrowing deeper into the tunnel.

Su Ze had guessed correctly. The four Saint-level Overlords from Mu Country and Luofan Country had indeed arrived underground.

The four of them had initially been distracted by Bai Guishou, the elder from the Filth Earth Organization. The four had surrounded and attacked him, but when Bai Guishou could no longer hold on, he used a life-saving skill to escape. With the Spirit Root Tree on their minds, they hadn’t given chase.

Instead, the four of them had followed the tree trunk down from the mountain above, chiseling through rock and earth until they reached the spherical cavern underground.

But they hadn’t expected someone to have already beaten them to it.

The four of them spotted Feng Bqing at a glance, their faces filled with shock. ’...What in the world is that thing?’

’Is it a beast or a Spiritual Plant?’

Feng Bqing paid them no mind at all. He only had eyes for Qiangzi, and he followed Su Ze into the same tunnel.

The four Saint-level Overlords landed on the ground. Ye Muni took one look around and roared furiously, "The Tree Marrow is gone, and the extract has been taken!"

Li Shangmao said, "It must have been that monster just now. I can’t tell what species it is, but I smelled a familiar stench on it."

The Grand Inquisitor, Qu Jianbai, his expression icy, fired a beam of interwoven black and white light into the tunnel Feng Bqing had entered.

The beam was silent, yet it disintegrated everything in its path—be it dirt or rock—into dust.

It was as if Feng Bqing had eyes in the back of his head. He sidestepped the beam, but in doing so, sent it flying straight toward Su Ze.

"Qiangzi!" Feng Bqing’s face paled in horror. He threw himself on top of Su Ze, shielding him from the attack.
