I Am The Only Witch Hunter-Chapter 301: The Empty Town
Lycan looked at its claws. Those sharp killing weapons glimmered under the white moonlight.
"Can you turn back?" Siderius said.
Lycan squinted his eyes and looked up to the full moon above.
"If I can hide myself from the moonlight, maybe... But now, its power forces me to stay in this form."
"What do you feel? Hunger? Ferocity? Anger?"
"Hunger!" Lycan blurted out. "I want to feast!"
"Very well. Then tonight we shall feast."
The two of them disappeared into the night.
In the early morning. George stood at the entrance of Santa Roberto, waiting for Siderius’ return.
Roland approached him from behind and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Can’t sleep?" Roland said.
George shook his head. "I worry about Lord Snow. I know he is strong but..."
"You’re afraid Master will hesitate?"
"Yes. Lycan has been his companion for a very long time. They’ve been together a lot."
"Don’t worry, George. You know Master longer than me but I can guarantee you, he is not that kind of man. He would not hesitate to cut it down."
In the far horizon, Siderius’ silhouette emerged. His body was covered in blood, making him almost the same color as Red beneath.
"Are you alright, my lord?" George rushed to Siderius once he was close.
"I’m fine. This isn’t my blood."
"What happened to the wolverine, my lord?" Roland said.
Siderius shared a smile. He gesture to the beast lying sideway on the horseback. Lycan had returned to his original state. There was still blood on his mouth.
"Surprisingly, he was able to control the rage of the beast. I have seen very few able to do that. Lycan is one special boy." Siderius said.
George picked the wolverine up and petted its head gently. It was much heavier than he remembered. The last time he saw it was almost six months ago when it wasn’t an adult yet.
"What do we do with it now, my lord?" George asked.
"Now we just leave it to grow. It will accompany me as usual and I will help it control the beast inside."
George nodded.
The next few weeks were rather calm and uneventful. Siderius officially taught Alchemy to his remaining apprentices.
As he expected, Roland was exceptional in Alchemy while Henry and Rea struggled in the subject.
In contrast, Henry and Rea were very good in combat training while Roland wasn’t that good. Henry had all those experiences as a goodwill bandit so he was already very good with the sword.
What Siderius taught him was simply the Frameworks, the Stances, and basic Witch Hunter techniques.
Rea on the other hand, did not know much about combat. He taught her from the beginning with the help of Henry. The two of them sparred often while Roland liked to spend his free time studying Alchemy.
Amongst all of his apprentices, Ashe was the balance one. She learned combat well and had a talent in Alchemy. Roland was exceptional in Alchemy, even more than Ashe, but his fighting was bad. Henry was the best in fighting but also the worst in Alchemy. Rea was similar to Henry but she’s consistent, even when she didn’t understand anything in Alchemy that Siderius taught, she put extra effort to remember it by heart.
She told him that she might not understand it now but in time, she would. And that’s why she still tried to remember everything.
Ashe had already left and began her own journey as a wanderer. She was his first apprentice. Henry’s body was ready to graft the first mutation but he didn’t have enough knowledge in Alchemy to do that yet.
Roland should quickly learn how to graft mutation but he needed to develop his body more. Rea was slow but she could still be a contender.
All three of them rushed to see who would be the second one to become a witch hunter.
As for Siderius, he didn’t care which one would make it first. He believed in their potential so he knew they would all make it. But if he had to choose, he’d pick Roland.
Sonarus Extima II had been completed. Now Siderius needed to find the third specimen for the last ear mutation.
Because he was a baron now with a very respectable and wealthy domain, finding the target wasn’t hard. Kraus had also made a very good undercover network that collected information for Siderius.
Kraus and Roland combination created an exceptional spy organization.
They had found quite a few weird events around the North. There was a massacre to one of the town in Snowfell but no one knew what had happened.
A giant fish, bigger than anything people saw, was rumored to live under a lake in Snowfell.
And then a case of possession where a girl had to be tied down. She would constantly go on murder spree and no longer recognize anyone.
"I don’t even know if these events would help me find my third Sonara. But I have been staying in my domain for too long now. It’s time to get back on the road again."
This should be a much shorter trip than usual since he would still be in the North.
Before he went on his journey, Siderius sent a letter to Jude, telling him he would be gone for one to two months. Jude hadn’t gone to Everia yet and was still figuring out a way to save Caterina. He replied and confirmed that he would inform Siderius in advance if he wanted to go to Everia.
Once Siderius had taken care of everything, he put on his uniform and armor, then went on the road with Red and Lycan.
George wanted to have someone to go with him but Siderius declined. After all, he was a witch hunter first, and a lord later.
The first destination was a small town that was wiped out by an unknown reason.
Siderius spent a few days to get there.
The town was empty. There was not a single soul living there. Not even animals. Siderius walked around the empty town, checking every nook and cranny but he didn’t find anything.
There were no corpses and no remnants of any people.
Whatever did this had eaten them alive or worse, used them for its own purpose.
There were around thirty families in this town. Around 100 to 120 people in total. Siderius asked himself what kind of creature would need this many people and what would be its purpose.
He noticed a well in the middle of the town.
The hunter approached the well and looked down at it. He had figured out what happened here.
