I Am The Only Witch Hunter-Chapter 367: The Black Dragon
Erebus stood in the darkness of the hallway. The chaos had flooded inside to the Coven. The school was attacked.
Erebus did feel its coming. In a way. The destruction of this school. But he didn't understand it. He didn't know what it truly was until it was too late.
Erebus Hostinger. He had been the headmaster of this Coven for a hundred years. He saw many witches grow and mature. Some had names echoed throughout the continent. Some had their body lay waste in the barren land.
An image flashed in his mind again. It was the same vision he had seen for many days now. The White Ghost stood on top of the mountain of corpses.
The corpses beneath his feet were the rulers of Eldoria. The King and Queen. The Counts and Dukes. He spared no one. Not even woman and younglings. As long as their blood flowed the power of Chaos, they were a target.
Erebus took a deep breath. He took out a wand from within his sleeve. It was a masterfully crafted wand with beautiful curves and patterns.
"You knew?" A voice echoed throughout the hallway.
"In a sense." Erebus nodded.
"And you did nothing to stop it?" The voice replied.
"I didn't know what the vision meant. And I know that it is not that easy to escape fate. Our kind did too many unspeakable things. Things that drive us to this very fate." Erebus said. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Siderius stepped into the moonlight, revealing his pale white hair and the dull gray armor on his body.
"You know Fate?" Siderius said.
"Not too much." Erebus said.
"So you know it is inevitable."
"I do, yes."
Erebus raised his wand and aimed it at Siderius.
"But as long as you are dead, this fate will be avoided." Erebus said.
"I won't be easy to kill, Erebus."
"How powerful can you be? Your strength doesn't even match a Major Witch."
"Maybe. But ranks aren't everything."
The Silver Hawk appeared on Siderius' back. It glowed like the moon and illuminated the darkness.
"You're right. Ranks aren't everything," Erebus said, "Even though I know Fate decided that we must die. I can't imagine how you are able to kill my pet."
As Erebus finished speaking, the tip of his wand glowed.
In the deep dark dungeon beneath the castle, a pair of golden eyes appeared. Slowly it crawled. Hungry it growled. The Black Dragon of the Dark Ice Coven was awakened.
"No amount of Steel could hurt my pet." Erebus said.
Siderius smiled faintly. "Steel isn't the only thing that could kill a dragon."
Siderius' force had taken control over the Dark Ice Coven. The witches retaliated but they were caught by surprise and weren't ready to battle.
And they were also further weakened by the Dimming Stones that Siderius had prepared.
Dimming Stones, the rare ores with the power to shut off the magic of a witch. It was the rarest ore in this kingdom. Even with all of Siderius' wealth and financial power of Snowfell, he wouldn't gain enough to neutralize all of the Coven.
But he wasn't here alone. He was here with the support of the other noble houses of the North. Human Noble Houses. And these Dimming Stones were their contribution.
At the same time that the Dark Ice Coven was attacked, the forces of the other Noble Houses also rushed into the Hallow Land. They attacked the choke points and commanded units of the territory. Everything was quickly neutralized without any form of communication.
They were operating exactly as Siderius advised. To shut off any communication system and put the Hallow Land in the dark. This way, no one would know what would happen until it was too late.
The Black Dragon climbed out of its dungeon.
Siderius' Knights were already there. They put down large metal shields. These rectangular shields were big enough to cover the entirety of an adult.
"Ready!" Roland shouted.
The Knights took out slings and slotted in Alchemical Bombs. They started to spin the slings aggressively.
The Black Dragon opened its mouth and released a huge wave of fire. Fire that was hot enough to melt any ordinary steel.
Those shields were made by Dull Steel, not ordinary steel. The fire couldn't melt the shields. Its heat couldn't reach the Knights as well because they had put the shields on the ground and weren't directly in contact with it.
"Throw!" Roland shouted.
Once the fire wave had gone past, the Knights emerged from behind the shields and threw the Alchemical Bombs into the Black Dragon.
The bombs burst into clouds of green smoke and had a terrible smell. It was a modified version of the Toxin Bomb that Siderius used to use.
"Poison? That won't be enough to kill my little pet." Erebus said. "My pet is immune to poison."
"Come. Why don't we have a look?"
Siderius and Erebus stood on the wide balcony like two close friends. They didn't seem like enemies at all. But they did keep a safe distance between each other.
They looked down and saw the Black Dragon spread its wings and took flight into the air. It rained down fire upon the Knights.
The Knights picked up the rectangular shields and lifted them above their heads. They put in a thin metal poles underneath the shield. Two other legs shot out from the pole and formed a solid tripod.
Fire spread to the shields as the Knight hid under it. The pressure of dragon fire was enough to kill a man. But that particular metal device managed to hold on and kept the shield standing, facing the power of the fire.
"What are those things?" Erebus said.
"They're simply a few creations I made. Cool, huh?"
"That won't be enough to win. I know you are strong. But with my dragon, your men will die eventually. And when they do, my dragon will come for you."
"Why don't we watch what is going to happen, huh?" Siderius smiled.
Suddenly, the dragon landed. It spread its wings to the side a few times but kept retreating them back for some reason.
Erebus could feel the weight in his stomach. Those Toxin Bombs weren't normal.
"Nothing is immune to poison. If it does, you simply haven't found the right poison.
Dragons are reptiles. And reptiles are easy to neutralize."
