Chapter 657: Chapter 657: Repaying You Tenfold

"A fight to the bitter end?"

Kris Cooper laughed, his lips curling upwards in a brazen, unrestrained smirk.

"Minister Zhou, a broken net can be mended, but a dead fish can never be brought back to life." Kris Cooper narrowed his eyes and took another step towards her. "Moreover, Minister Zhou, do you truly believe you have that capability?"

Gazing at the young man before her, Liliana Davis couldn’t help but shiver. In that instant, her usual confidence had vanished completely.

She unconsciously retreated another step. Her black high heels were now at the very edge of the rooftop slab, just two centimeters from a fall.

Kris Cooper watched her coldly, his words ground out from between his teeth.

"Therefore, everything you’ve inflicted on Vera, I will repay to you tenfold."

"Kris!" Vera Wave hurried over, panting, her laptop bag in hand. "I’m so exhausted..."

Seeing the two of them standing on the rooftop, she froze.

"Aunt... Aunt Liliana?!"

The two people standing at the edge of the rooftop turned simultaneously. Upon seeing Vera, both their expressions were of shock.

Vera approached, laptop bag still in hand, her eyes filled with confusion.

"What... what are you two doing up here?"

Kris Cooper hesitated. "I..."

"You want to know what we were talking about?" Liliana Davis strode towards her. "Fine, I’ll tell you right now. You want to know? Your father is..."

"Shut up!" Kris Cooper thrust out his arm, grabbed Liliana’s arm, and forcefully shoved her aside. He then turned to Vera. "Vera, don’t listen to her nonsense..."

Liliana Davis stumbled back several steps, her foot slipped, and she fell to the ground.

Scrambling to her feet, she glared at Kris Cooper and scoffed.

She frowned as she examined the scrape on her knee.

"I’m calling the police right now! You’ll pay for what you’ve done!"

Limping to the edge of the slab, she picked up the purse she had dropped and straightened up.

This construction site had been abandoned for many years. The concrete slab was severely weathered; though it looked solid, it was riddled with cracks underneath. With her added weight, it clearly couldn’t hold.

Just as she fumbled for her phone, a faint crumbling sound came from the slab beneath her feet.

Liliana Davis didn’t notice. She just extended a finger and dialed three numbers on her screen.

CRACK!

The slab finally gave way under her weight, splitting apart with a loud THUD!

Feeling something give way beneath her, she glanced down in confusion, her face instantly draining of color.

"Help—"

She only managed that single cry before she plunged towards the ground along with chunks of falling concrete.

"Aunt Liliana!"

Vera screamed and lunged forward, desperately trying to grab her.

"Careful!"

Kris Cooper lunged too, snatching Vera’s arm.

CRACK!

The spot where her front foot had landed also gave a sharp CRACK, and more concrete debris tumbled down.

Kris Cooper quickly yanked her back.

"Stay here! Don’t move!"

He cautiously approached the edge and looked down.

Below, Liliana Davis lay on the grassland, her neck twisted at an unnatural angle, her body splayed out bizarrely.

Kris Cooper frowned, averted his gaze, and walked back to Vera’s side.

"Aunt Liliana... Is she... How is she?" Vera asked, her voice tight with anxiety.

Placing an arm around her shoulders, Kris Cooper took out his cell phone and dialed a number.

"Emergency services? Someone has fallen from a building here!" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

His voice was soft. But he knew, with chilling certainty, that calling for medical help at this point was utterly meaningless.
