I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 664: The Good Person You Spoke Of (4)
Vera Wave put down her chopsticks and stood up.
"Let’s go, you take me somewhere."
"Where are you going?" Tommy Taylor asked.
Vera took the handbag he handed her and uttered, "To plead with Nathan Leafcastle."
Tommy’s eyes flickered with surprise, but he said no more.
The two went downstairs together, and Tommy drove Vera to Nathan Leafcastle’s residence, stopping the car downstairs at the Leafcastle’s. Tommy came over to help her open the car door.
"I’ll go up alone, just wait for me outside."
Vera looked up at the lit room upstairs, bit her lip, walked up the steps, and rang the doorbell.
After a moment, the door was opened.
Sally Dalton stood outside, her gaze falling on Vera, a look of surprise flashing in her eyes, then moving aside to let her in.
"I... I want to see Brother Nathan."
"He’s upstairs." Sally turned and walked towards the stairs. "Follow me!"
The two went upstairs one after the other, Sally stopped in front of a half-open door and stepped aside.
"He’s in there." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Vera stepped forward and knocked gently on the door.
No response came from inside.
She applied a little more pressure, and the door slowly opened.
Inside, Nathan Leafcastle was holding a mother-and-son photo that Liliana Davis had placed by the bedside, bending his figure seated by the bed.
In the room, only a small lamp was on, casting a faint shadow of his tall figure on the wall. His expression could only be described as utterly lost.
Vera’s heart suddenly tightened.
Seeing Nathan Leafcastle before her, she just couldn’t bring herself to move her heavy feet.
Sally spoke softly.
"Nathan, Vera is here to see you."
Nathan turned his face to look, and only then did Vera muster the courage to walk into the room, stopping a few steps away from him.
"Brother Nathan... I’m... I’m sorry."
He gently placed the photo on the table and stood up straight from the bed.
"It’s not your fault, you don’t need to apologize to me."
His voice was extremely hoarse, the smell of smoke in the air and the room was unmistakable, his eyes red.
Vera reached out her hand and gently held his arm.
Wanting to comfort him but not knowing how to start.
Nathan simply reached out and embraced her, his head resting on her shoulder.
"Vera, I... I’m really feeling so sad."
"I know." Vera comfortingly patted his back, "I understand how you feel. If you want to cry, just let it out, don’t hold it in, it’ll make things worse!"
She had been through the same thing. She clearly understood the pain and helplessness of losing a loved one.
Nathan hugged her waist, burying his face in her shoulder, softly sobbing.
At the doorway, Sally watched them, pressed her lips, then turned and went downstairs.
After a while, Nathan finally managed to control his emotions, lifted his face from her shoulder, and Vera helped him sit on the bed, handing him a tissue.
Nathan took the tissue, "Thank you for coming to see me."
"I..." Vera bit her lip, "Actually, I... I not only came to see you, I... I also have something... I want... want you to help... help me."
These words were extremely difficult for her to say.
After wiping his face, Nathan spoke again, his tone significantly calmer.
"Tell me, as long as I can do it, I’ll do my best to help you."
"I..." Vera lowered her face, not daring to look into his eyes, "I actually want to tell you that this... this thing is really not how you think it is. Kris Cooper, he... he really didn’t do it, this... it was really just an accident. I saw it with my own eyes, he really didn’t push Aunt Liliana... I... I know you’re feeling sad, but..."
