Chapter 37: Ravi turned and fled

Ravi just stood silently as Arlen finished the entire drink. He waited a minute or more, watching as the Captain covered his hand with both of his hands, his voice was hoarse as if on the verge of tears, "Today, it was my fault."

It was so familiar. After he smiled, waved everyone goodbye. After he dismissed the team, he would return to his dorm room, images of those that had died because of his poor decision would pester in his image, rendering him unable to sleep. It was his fault. He should have been faster, smarter, and a better hero. It was so familiar.

"How is it your fault?"

Arlen removed his hands from his eyes, those ocean-blue eyes were tinged with a hint of red, "I just made very poor decisions." He swallowed, "I knew that the Hero Association had villain spies but I still sent the message that someone with hypnotic ability had awakened. I was in a hurry, rushing so that I could get some arrests, so I could prove myself. So many people who were in surgery would have complications before the lights. If I had been faster, I would have arrested him before we got to the hospital and maybe..maybe there would not have been casualties and all for what...We do not even have the suspect. In just two days since he awakened, from hypnotizing Mrs Karen, he had already hypnotized the doctors and those in charge of the transplant lists." Arlen shuddered. He lowered his head. He seemed to be lost in his own world.

"The name of the organization that came for him is the Infernal Covenant. They are definitely among the top ten most evil groups in Avalon. All of their operations left countless casualties and now because of me, another powerful person would be added to their group. A hypnotist. The damage that Alex Malley would do in the future..."

"Would be your fault. Is that what you want to say again, Captain? Should it not be Draco’s fault, since he was the one who gave Alex Malley to the shapeshifter?" Ravi thought he was bad, but this person self balming might have even been worse than his. Not only did he take the blame for the past, but he was also planning to take the blame for the future. He gritted his teeth, overly righteous fool.

"Of course not, how did he know? You heard Officer Johnson, the person looked exactly like me."

"So it is not his fault.:"

"Of course not."

"But is it your fault?"

This time, the mocking glint of Ravi was too clear to ignore, "You think I am a goody two shoes?"

"I actually think that you are worse than that. Not only do you blame yourself for everything that happens, you go ahead to blame yourself for everything that will happen. Are you some kind of saint reincarnated? Why would you feel obligated to put that burden on you? The Hero Association did not clean itself up, allowing spies to fester, and you also blame yourself for that. Did you create the Hero Association, is it your job?" Ravi scolded him, wishing that he could break his head and force the words into it.

Arlen was speechless, due to his family background, he had been the one giving orders and admonishing others, and it was a surprise for someone to scold him like this. This kind of scolding that came from worry, he looked at the can in his hands, His lips twitched, and he suddenly felt touched.

The melancholy in his heart slowly faded, "Then I should blame the Hero Association?" He asked, his voice was light, showing that he was feeling better.

"No. Things that should happen will always happen. Life is hard, Captain Sinclair.’" Ravi moved a little closer to the desk, meeting his gaze, "Blame fate. Blaming yourself would just lead to psychological problems so blame fate."

Arlen was quiet for a while before he looked at Ravi, "Officer West, do you want to have ice cream?"

Ravi blinked, what was he talking about now? Ice cream. By 9 p.m

"Sweets can release dopamine in the brain which would make me feel better. Officer West came over because he wanted to cheer me up right."

Ravi felt like he had been caught in a sticky trap, he shook his head, "That was not the reason I came."

Arlen’s face fell, if there were dog ears on his head, Ravi imagined that they would be dropping, the shine had returned to those eyes and now they were dimming.

Ravi sighed, "I admit that I was a little worried about..." Why was he smiling so brightly now? "But it is too late to eat ice cream.’"

Arlen stood up, he leaned forward so suddenly that Ravi widened his eyes, "That is the thing about being an adult is that we can have ice cream any time of the day."

He was too close, too close, his blonde hair was messy falling over his face, maybe because of the number of times that he had rubbed it today, those eyes stared at him playfully, the scent of vanilla fluttered around his nose, and he was so handsome that it was difficult to pay attention to his words.

"I know a place. We can go now.’

Ravi who was bewitched shook his head, It was 9 pm. He was an old man who should be in bed, "It is late."

"Come on. I have yet to thank you for saving my life. Let me take you out, okay?"

It is hard to refuse when someone with that face body and voice is begging you but Ravi stood his ground, "Captain Sinclair, are you saying that your life is worth 1 cup of ice cream."

Arlen was silent.

Ravi smirked, he won. Time to go home, wash up, have some fruit pudding, and go to bed.

"You are right. You saved my life. I can only repay you like this." The Captain walked from behind the desk and stood in front of Ravi. He then sighed like an old maiden being auditioned off, his eyelashes trembling, he reached for his button and opened it, revealing his clavicle, "I can only repay you with my body."

"You..." Ravi was so speechless.

Arlen moved forward and he moved back. "Don’t move."

"Okay." Those blue eyes twinkled with mischief, "I can just undress here to repay my savior." He reached for the second button.

Ravi turned back and fled.
