295 Don’t Want to Separate

“Come in.” Shen Nian’s stern face relaxed. He turned sideways and let Auntie in. Then, he stood at the door and looked left and right to make sure that there was no one else before closing the door again. “Auntie, sit down and talk.”

“Okay.” Lian Meng sat on the sofa uneasily.

She was the Aunt of this six-year-old child, but for some reason, she felt like she was negotiating with a big boss. She suddenly felt nervous.

After regaining her composure, Lian Meng gathered her wits. She smiled and held his hand, and encouraged him to sit beside her. “Nian Nian, listen to me. I don’t know what happened between your parents tonight. Otherwise, I would never allow your mother to be out there, alone in the middle of the night. I would rather chase your father out than abandon your mother.”

“I know.” Shen Nian nodded.

He could tell from Lian Meng’s expression when she entered that she really did not know anything. Otherwise, he would not be willing to see her at this time.

When Lian Meng saw how subdued Shen Nian’s reaction was, she was suddenly at a loss for words. She could only bite the bullet and ask, “You know where your mother is, right? Nian Nian, can you tell me, did your mother tell you what happened tonight?”

Shen Nian looked up at her, his round eyes conflicted. “Mom didn’t tell me why they quarreled, but if Dad still doesn’t admit his mistake, Mom won’t come back.”

What did that mean?

Lian Meng was anxious and tried to get more details. “Nian Nian, do you know where your mother is? Can you tell me? I promise I won’t tell your father. I’ll go and persuade your mother personally, okay? You don’t want your Mom and Dad to separate, right?”

Shen Nian was angry and about to flare up, but this question silenced him.

To be honest, he liked Lian Jing very much as a father. In his opinion, only Lian Jing was worthy of his mother. Moreover, his mother cared a lot for his father. If they really separated, his mother would probably be very sad.

Shen Nian thought for a long time and finally nodded slowly. “When Dad isn’t around tomorrow, I’ll bring you to see Mom.”

“Okay!” Lian Meng finally relaxed and patted his head gently. “Nian Nian, are you tired? Do you want Auntie to sleep with you?”

Shen Nian refused. He was no longer a child who needed an adult to coax him to sleep. Besides, his mind was in turmoil and he wanted to be alone for a while.

He did not tell Auntie that his mother wanted to take him away, but he still promised to bring Auntie to see his mother. He did not know if his mother would be angry when she saw them and if she would blame him for taking matters into his own hands.

However, he still hoped that the two of them could reconcile quickly.

The night passed quickly. Cheng Huo had already tampered with the surveillance cameras near his house. No matter what, Lian Jing would not be able to find his exact address.

Zhong Xin was overwrought. He had been sitting on the sofa with the President for the entire night. At some point, he had fallen asleep.

The first rays of the morning sun woke him up. In his daze, he felt as if there was layer of white fog floating before his eyes. He woke up with a start, thinking there was a fire somewhere, but when he looked closer, he realized that the President had been smoking all night. The ashtray was already filled with cigarette butts.

“President Lian, have a rest first.” Zhong Xin had been by Lian Jing’s side for many years as he conquered the world. but he had never seen Lian Jing looking so dejected.

At the moment, President Lian no longer looked like the elite man of the past. The choking smell of smoke hung around him, and the skin under his eyes looked bruised.

Zhong Xin had never seen him so tired, even during those times that he had worked all night. He sighed and said, “President Lian, you should rest first. Today is a rest day. Miss Shen won’t go to work, but I’ve already sent someone to keep an eye on her friend, Li Zi. Once Miss Shen appears, we will immediately report it to you.”

“Yes.” Lian Jing exhaled the last puff of smoke and stubbed out the cigarette in the full ashtray. However, he was still frustrated. “Is there progress on the investigation of the road surveillance cameras?”

Zhong Xin quickly got into work mode. He turned on his computer and looked at the results of the investigation sent by the technical department. He pursed his lips and reported solemnly, “The surveillance cameras have been tampered with, so we can’t find any clues. It will take at least four hours to recover the footage.”

“That’s too long.” Lian Jing frowned in displeasure and asked the butler to open the window. When the smell of smoke in the room dissipated, he looked up at Lian Meng, who had come downstairs alone. “Is Nian Nian awake?”

“Yes.” Lian Meng had just woken up and gone to check on Shen Nian before going downstairs to look for her brother.

Shen Nian had not slept well last night either. He was six-year-old child. Even if his mind was mature, there were still things that he could not figure out. But he had not allowed Lian Meng to accompany him last night. She did not know how he gotten through the night.
