Chapter 42: ’Mere’ Ten Seconds

Bzzzzzt!

A sharp buzzing whirred in Raven’s ears for a while.

His entire body was frozen in place.

By the moment he recognized Jerry’s voice, he had been in a daze.

What was the meaning of this?

What was the purpose behind their meeting?

Was he here to harm him?

He couldn’t think of anything.

But when he knelt down and talked to him like he was his God and savior, he realized it wasn’t like anything he was expecting.

Jerry literally acted like he was talking to his God.

Lend him strength?

He doubted he had enough to spare for anything right now.

His subject?

What subject?

Since when did he start having subjects?

Come out victorious?

From what exactly?

His head buzzed again.

Wait, was he really about to do something?

Something felt terribly amiss here.

Why wasn’t anyone’s reaction to a person kneeling in front of him?

Was this some sort of magic?

He looked at Jerry as he slowly stood back up, his eyes no longer on him.

What was he about to do?

Jerry slowly joined his hands together, pointing them forward towards the Archbishop who was delivering his speech.

He pulled his right hand back, as if pulling back an invisible bowstring.

Black lightning crawled inside the gap, getting longer the more he pulled back.

It looked like he was preparing for something.

Lord Inquisitor noticed this before under a few milliseconds.

He immediately rushed forward, his body erupting in a turquoise aura, as he easily rotated the massive sword through his hand.

A few milliseconds later, the Archbishop also took notice of the black lightning arrow aimed straight at him.

"Enjoy this little show of mine, my Liege."

BOOM!

Before Lord Inquisitor assumed a defensive stance in front of the Archbishop to protect him, the shot had reached the spot it needed to be.

The Archbishop barely dodged the fatal shot and was hit right in his shoulder.

The bones became visible, and his clothes caught on fire.

As more and more people registered what had just transpired, screams erupted all over the place.

Aaaaah!

Noooooo!

Eeeeekk!

Thus, starting a chain reaction of the normal people frantically running away.

It was a stampede.

"My sincerest of the apologies, your eminence," Jerry took a few steps back, and, as if aiming something, said, "But I am doing this for your own safety."

Eh!?

As he finished his words, he pushed Raven back so hard that he flew away a couple of meters.

Urgh!

His back hit against something, but it was surprisingly comfortable.

He looked back and noticed two unconscious people behind him.

They were Pevon and Janet.

Pevon fainted because he had absorbed most of the shock from the hit.

And Janet was just that frail.

He looked forward, back to Jerry, who was currently fighting Lord Inquisitor.

The massive sword fell down on Jerry, as the speed produced micro sonic booms all over the edge.

But Jerry seemingly vanished from the spot, leaving behind trails of black lightning.

And from that point in time, everything looked like streaks and blurs to Raven.

The black streaks obviously belonged to Jerry, and the turquoise streaks belonged to Lord Inquisitor.

He noticed the Archbishop had collected himself, and took out a staff, and began chanting something.

Zapp!

But immediately, a black lightning streak travelled towards him, breaking his concentration.

It all happened in mere centiseconds.

Before he was even able to process what was happening, something new happened.

The Archbishop, seemingly the weakest of the three, was still faster and more powerful beyond Raven’s imagination.

Raven was in awe.

This was simply a fight beyond his level.

Jerry was not only fighting a formidable being, belonging to one of the strongest people in the church, but he was also somehow able to find time to disrupt a literal Archbishop.

A person wielding some of the most power and influence over the Church.

Every single time, faster than Raven even blinked, the Archbishop started chanting something, and a black lightning shunned his attack just as fast.

Just who was this guy?

He had to cover his ears to prevent himself from going deaf from all the blasts the fight was producing.

Even the tiniest of lightning strikes created blasts that could easily flatten a house, but they were being blocked by Lord Inquisitor with his massive sword.

Raven just kept getting taken aback.

How was he even controlling that thing at such a speed?

And even though he couldn’t see anything, he knew he was fluid with it as well.

After all, they had to block spells every few nanoseconds.

Boom!

Boom!

Every single spell was making him dizzy.

Every single swing of the sword was making him dizzy.

He looked around, only to see dozens of corpses lying flat on the ground.

Dead.

Collateral damage in the fight between behemoths.

An unavoidable collateral.

Raven couldn’t bear to look at the corpses anymore, his attention shifting back to the fight.

Suddenly, something happened.

The black streak slipped past the turquoise halo, and,

Zoom!

It swept past the Archbishop, who was still trying to cast a spell.

Splatter!

And the next thing that entered Raven’s sight was something he would remember his entire life.

The Archbishop was lying on the ground, his entire body charred.

Charred, melted skin was dripping off the flesh, and the head...

The head was no more.

What remained was nothing but a pile of fragmented bones and a smoothie of brain, scattered all over the ground.

The blood literally painted the ground around him.

Heurk!

Raven gagged.

Despite having nearly two dozen murders under his belt, none of them even came close to what he was witnessing.

It all happened in such an instant that his brain didn’t even process the kill all the way through.

His guts couldn’t even produce the nasty bile to throw up.

He was simply stunned.

Rrraagghhh!

His body subconsciously reacted to the scream as he noticed the black streak of light leaving the area.

And the source of the scream, the turquoise streak, followed it.

And in less than a second, both streaks vanished.

’Ah!’

A low yelp escaped his mouth.

It was over.

He looked around, noticing the destruction that just occurred.

In barely ten seconds, the fight was over.

And so was everything else.
