I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 118: On the Road to the North (1)
"Roxanna, you don’t have to worry about any of this," Zeir said gently. "I’ll take care of the settlement, and Azul will take care of Calen. So just focus on your journey and come back safely as soon as you can."
Roxanna finally let out a long breath. She really was lucky because she could always depend on her husbands. They might argue over small things sometimes, but when something serious happened, they always stood together as a team.
"Thank you, Zeir." She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him softly. "Please... wait for me."
Then she turned to Azul and kissed his lips. "Please take good care of him while I’m gone."
Azul nodded without hesitation. "Of course." He gently brushed her hair a few times and smiled. "You have to take care of yourself and our baby too."
After saying goodbye, Roxanna and her two husbands left the Vixeria Settlement together. The system hadn’t set any time limit for the mission, but Roxanna knew she couldn’t take it lightly. She had to bring the doctor back before a week passed.
"It would be so much better if we had horses," Roxanna said as they walked away from the settlement.
The sun was already setting. The sky slowly turned dark. But since all of them could see well at night, they decided to keep walking until they were too tired to continue.
[And it would be even better if we had a car...] Roxanna thought with a small sigh. [Out of all the things in the system’s market, there isn’t even one vehicle.]
[Host, small electronic items are easy to hide. But a car? Or a motorcycle? You would attract too much attention if you used something like that,] the system replied calmly.
Well, the system did have a point. The black crystals owned by her settlement were already enough to invite trouble. If she really had a car, even more bad people would come after them.
Still... at least they could raise horses, right? She really didn’t understand why the Vixeria Settlement didn’t have even one.
Oh, wait, she knew exactly why.
Based on Evil Roxanna’s memories, her father didn’t keep horses because he knew his daughter liked to hurt animals.
That damn psychopath! If she hadn’t replaced that evil soul, the Vixeria Settlement would probably have turned into ashes in less than two years after Evil Roxanna became the tribe leader.
"Sometimes, we can find wild horses on the road we’re going to pass," Luan said. "They’re usually near water sources. We might be able to check there."
He was right. Roxanna had also seen groups of wild horses near the river close to the Vixeria Settlement several times, but they usually didn’t stay in the same place.
"But wild horses probably aren’t easy to tame, right?" Roxanna asked quietly.
Luan shrugged. "If you’re skilled enough, anything is possible."
At first, Roxanna thought Luan was just saying that casually.
After all, taming a wild horse sounded difficult. It wasn’t something anyone could do without experience. Even in her past life, she had only seen people do it on television. It always looked dangerous and painful.
She glanced at him with doubt. "Do you... know how to tame one?"
Luan smiled faintly. "A little."
Roxanna blinked. "A little?"
"Yes," he replied calmly. "Back when I was traveling alone, I stayed in a desert area for a while. There were no villages, and no stable horses. If you wanted to move fast, you had to rely on wild ones."
He paused for a moment, as if remembering something.
"I failed many times at first," Luan continued. "I fell, got kicked, and even broke two ribs. But after that, I slowly learned how to calm them down."
"I thought you only wandered around the forest," Cyrus said in surprise.
"Most of the time, yes," Luan replied. "But if I want to live quietly, I’d rather stay in the desert. There aren’t as many demon beasts there as in the forest. Though... I think the voids have already spread there too."
Roxanna looked at Luan with eyes full of admiration. "If you were born in my world, you could probably become a military special force who can live anywhere."
Luan frowned because he didn’t really understand what she meant. "Can... someone like that protect you?"
Roxanna smiled at him, her eyes gentle. "They can," she said. "If they choose to."
"If I were born in your world, I would definitely protect you," Luan said seriously. "But even here... I’ll still protect you."
Roxanna smiled at his words. Then she gently held onto Luan’s and Cyrus’s arms as she walked between them. "I’ll work hard to protect all of you too," she said with a small laugh.
After a moment, her smile slowly faded. Her voice became softer. "That’s why... I really want to make sure Calen will be alright."
Inside her heart, she let out a soft sigh. [He’s been through so many bad things lately...] she thought sadly. [First, he wanted to give up on his life. Then, after he promised to keep living, he almost lost his life again.]
Her chest felt tight just thinking about it. She lowered her head slightly, trying to hide the worry in her eyes. No matter how strong she tried to be, she was still afraid.
She was afraid of losing someone she loved.
"We’ll do our best to find a way to save Calen, alright?" Cyrus said softly, trying to comfort her. "We won’t let him die so easily."
Luan nodded beside him. "Even though he’s annoying sometimes," he added honestly, "I still don’t want him to die."
Roxanna only let out a small laugh in response because she knew Luan was just joking.
They then continued walking north together. Even though they didn’t enter the forest, the road was still full of trees and wild grass. Now and then, insects crawled onto Roxanna’s feet. Her shoes, made from animal skin and bones, couldn’t always block them. Every time it happened, she would kick her feet lightly in discomfort.
Just as she thought, the scariest thing in this world wasn’t monsters, but it was bugs. Luckily, she wasn’t afraid of them, but that didn’t mean she liked them.
