I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 125: Messenger’s Death
"What!? How can you kill him just like that?"
Everyone turned their heads to the end of the table, where Erika, who was wearing a red dress, and City Lord Alderic, who was wearing a red coat, were facing each other a meter apart.
Erika’s furious and sudden shout startled everyone present in the hall.
They turned to look at the situation ahead as the guards present in the hall immediately became alert as well.
Alderic closed his eyes for a bit as he put his hand forward, gesturing for Erika to calm down. "Now, now. Just calm down a little."
"That messenger was not truthful in his words, did not cooperate, and tried to attack me during our interrogation. I just acted out of reflex and ended up killing him accidentally," he explained to the fuming Erika.
Hearing that, Erika just fumed even more. However, just as she was about to lash out out of frustration, she suddenly recalled what Miguel told her earlier.
She forcefully calmed herself down as she finally left Alderic’s presence and walked toward the stunned crowd.
"What’s going on?" Worried about her, Gasper went forward and asked about the situation.
"It’s alright, I just acted a bit out of line," she replied calmly as she subtly nodded at Miguel, who was standing at the back of the crowd.
The two of them had already talked about how the messenger or the negotiator could be their only means of tracking the culprit behind the scenes. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
However, when she asked Alderic about it earlier, he directly stated that he had already killed the man and that there was nothing they could do about it anymore.
Knowing that the messenger was their only lead at this moment, she was not able to hold herself back and shouted at Alderic due to frustration and anger.
It was fortunate that she saw Miguel at the corner of her eyes, making her recall his words about her acting naturally earlier; otherwise, she might still be demanding an explanation from Alderic right now.
As a well-known genius of the Red Family, she actually has the capacity to question Alderic, who was only a City Lord of a minor city like Red Cliff City. Her identity was special, and her potential was valued by the Red Family compared to a City Lord like Alderic, who had already reached his peak.
This was also the reason why Alderic doesn’t act too overbearing around her, even though he was practically her elder in terms of age and strength as a summoner.
On the other hand, as the awkward silence in the dining hall pervaded, Alderic suddenly stood up and clapped his hands loudly before saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, I humbly apologize for the unsightly sight earlier."
"However, the dishes are now getting cold, so I propose not to waste any more time, and let’s start our humble feast to celebrate everyone’s safety over the bandits."
He then took the glass of wine in front of him and raised it to the air for a toast. "I offer this toast to everyone present who managed to surmount the adversity they faced and to the perseverance you have shown during these past few days with the bandits."
"I would also like to extend my gratitude to Mister Journey and Miss Edith for being there and saving everyone in times of crisis. Saviours truly don’t always wear capes."
"Cheers to all!"
Alderic stated this as he gulped the glass of wine in his hands.
Everyone looked at each other and took the wines in their respective glasses as well. They raised it in mid-air and toast toward Adleric.
Miguel looked at the wine and shook the glass a few more times before he shoved it down his throat.
He had already learned his lesson about not drinking all the drinkable liquid in this world. Who knew if this wine was actually mixed with poison or, better yet, another demonic miasma?
Miguel checked it thoroughly before toasting it toward Alderic as well. Edith also only drank her wine after Miguel stated that it was safe.
As for Alderic’s words about him saving Erika and the others, he was not surprised that he already knew at all. After all, there were a lot of people here that he could obtain information from.
Miguel did not think too much about it, as this was in line with their plan as well. He had never intended to hide his strength as Mister Journey, so there was nothing to worry about even if they found out that he was the one who saved them from the bandits and the assassins.
After the toast, Miguel and the others sat in their respective seats and began to eat after Alderic gestured for them to start.
Miguel did not hold back and basically took everything he wanted.
It was fortunate that the skull mask has its own jaw, allowing him to eat just fine even without taking the skull mask off. Edith’s mask also just covered the upper part of her face, so eating was not a problem for her either.
On the other hand, Miguel, a food lover who doesn’t know how to cook, basically took one serving for each dish served at the table.
In truth, with his now-near-endless supply of Origin Energy drops, he could actually choose to abstain from eating food from now on to avoid accumulating another batch of impurities in his body.
However, Miguel thought that it was very meaningless. He was the type of man who valued emotions over anything else.
The joy of eating without worrying about one’s health was one of the many things he enjoyed about his life.
Unless necessary, he would surely not exchange eating delicious foods.
Right now, instead of abstaining, his appetite seemed to rise to another level.
The others could not help but look at him in confusion as they wondered how someone could eat so many servings of food.
Where did he put all the foods he just consumed?
This was the question that lingered in their minds as they observed how Mister Journey still kept on adding more and more food to his plate with the help of Edith by his side.
