I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 127: No Need
The winner must win something, and the loser must lose something.
Upon hearing those words, Alderic immediately realized what Journey was trying to convey.
A frown appeared on his face as he said, "Are you trying to suggest a bet?"
"Exactly!" Miguel stated confidently.
Seeing how confident ’Journey’ was, Alderic began to hesitate about whether he should accept this term.
After all, all he wanted to do was test the water and confirm for himself if he was truly as strong as what the others say.
"After all, this will just become a boring duel if there is nothing at stake," Miguel added after seeing the hesitation on Alderic’s face.
Everyone turned to look at each other upon hearing Journey’s words.
Gasper scoffed as he recalled how he was baited by Miguel to do the same thing before.
Meanwhile, Erika merely giggled as she realized that Miguel was actually so confident in defeating Alderic that he even proposed a bet.
Hearing that, Alderic seemed to have made up his mind as he nodded.
"Alright. But we should limit ourselves in case it arouses animosity for the loser. What do you think?"
"Deal," Miguel agreed before he held the jaw of the skull mask before looking upwards as though thinking deeply.
"Hmmm. For my end, how about you let me read the records contained within your library, if you have any? It has been a long time since I last came out of seclusion; I just wanted to know the situation of the world right now," Miguel said, keeping on the act.
Not wanting to go overboard, he only truly wanted knowledge this badly for now.
He wanted to understand the world and its history, but in order to do that, he had to start small.
If Alderic indeed has his own library, the history of Red Cliff City would surely be recorded there.
Aside from the basic knowledge he was dying to know, he also wanted to learn about places that might have significant historical significance that could allow him to sign in and obtain more beauty as rewards from the system.
His greatest asset right now was his System as well as the Origin Energy. He wanted to capitalize on both of them and breakthrough levels after levels within a short period of time. After all, his real enemy was not in this world.
"Okay, that’s fine with me." Alderic heaved a sigh of relief upon hearing his request. It was nothing overboard, so he could accept it easily.
He thought for a moment before stating what he wanted as well.
"As for me, how about you tell me the method for keeping your summon by your side for an extended period of time?"
He had been curious about this since the moment he knew that Edith was actually Journey’s summon. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
As far as he knows, even when one reaches Grandmaster Summoner Rank, one would still not choose to summon their summons for an entire day for no apparent reason.
Summoning them requires energy; the stronger the summon, the more energy would be needed to summon them. No one would willingly do that, as it might become a disadvantage during a battle.
This was also why Alderic wanted to confirm if Journey was truly as strong as they said or if he was just trying to mystify things. After all, in his perspective, summoning a contracted beast for an extended period of time for no apparent reason was an idiotic thing to do for a summoner.
He guessed that Journey was using a technique to make it appear strong in front of the others.
Meanwhile, upon hearing that, Miguel merely smiled beneath the skull mask before replying, "Sure, no problem."
It doesn’t matter, even if he knew such information. Besides, Miguel knew that he would win for sure, so there was no need to worry about anything else.
"Alright, let’s summon the beast we wanted to participate in the duel now," Alderic stated as he closed his eyes, summoning his grimoire a few seconds later.
He then pressed his hands on the grimoire pages one by one as he summoned three beasts, one after the other.
The first one looked like a bigger version of Erika’s Red Swallow; the second beast was a snake that was thick as an adult thigh; and the last was a humongous golem made out of black stone with red magma flowing through the cracks in its joints.
The three of them emitted a violent and strong aura that made the onlooker’s heart palpitate.
The big Red Swallow looked fierce as its whole feather was emitting blazing hot fire that made the temperature in the surroundings rise for a few degrees.
When the onlookers saw them, they could not help but feel nervous. Each of the three beasts summoned by the City Lord felt very strong. Compared to Edith, who was not emitting any such aura, they could not help but think differently about the battle now.
City Lord Alderic indeed lived up to his reputation as a summoner who was infinitely close to becoming a Master Rank.
After he summoned his three beasts, Alderic looked at Miguel and said, "I’m done. You can summon yours now."
"Only three? Aren’t you an Advance Elite Rank Summoner?"Miguel asked.
When a summoner reaches Beginner Elite Rank, they will now be able to summon two types of beasts in a single day. They would be able to summon three at Intermediate Elite and then four at Advance Elite Rank.
Miguel was curious as to why he only summoned three when he could have summoned four to up his advantage even more.
Hearing that, Alderic just shook his head and explained. "It doesn’t matter. My fourth contracted beast is not mature yet and is not suitable to be in this kind of high-level battle yet."
Miguel nodded his head upon hearing the explanation.
He waved his hands in mid-air as a grimoire emitting a colorful glow appeared in front of him in an insant.
"Alright, then. Let our duel begin the moment this gold coin lands on the ground," Miguel stated as a gold coin magically appeared in between his fingers.
Alderic widened his eyes in confusion and disbelief upon seeing his grimoire. Not only because he was able to summon it in an instant, but also because of its colorful glow, which he had never seen before. Due to that, he could not tell what kind of grade his grimoire was at all.
As the gold coin was about to get tossed in mid-air, Alderic suddenly recalled something as he shouted, "Wait! Aren’t you going to summon your beasts? "
Hearing that, Miguel merely chuckled as Edith began to walk right in front of him.
"No need."
"She, alone, is enough! "
Trring!
The sound of the gold coin getting tossed high in the air resonated in the silent surroundings as a dumbfounded expression appeared on everyone’s faces upon hearing ’Journey’s’ arrogant words.
"Arrogant!" Alderic could finally no longer take being underestimated by Journey as he let out a furious roar.
His eyes focused on the gold coin as he prepared to attack Edith the moment the coin landed on the ground.
The others, who were equally dumbfounded, also had their gazes following the gold coin spinning in the air as their anticipation rose for the destructive battle to come the moment it landed.
Ting!
