I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 129: Erika’s Suspicion
The arrogant words left behind by Journey lingered in everyone’s mind.
A hint of understanding flashed across Alderic’s face as he realized what Journey was trying to say.
As long as one was strong enough and reached a higher level, they would surely reach the point where they could summon their beast for as long as they liked.
This was what he understood from Journey’s words.
At the same time, he also realized another point. Journey might even be stronger than what he was currently showing.
After all, Alderic knew for a fact that even Grandmaster Rank Summoner would not summon their beasts all day long.
This meant that Journey’s strength had already surpassed his realm of understanding and that he was surely above Grandmaster Rank if there were any rank beyond that.
Alderic dismissed everyone as he returned to his quarters, deep in thought.
As the misunderstanding grew inside Alderic and the others, Miguel, the perpetrator, had already returned to his room along with Edith.
Before he was able to close the door, he suddenly felt someone walking a few meters behind them.
He turned around and realized that it was Erika.
"Come in," Miguel stated as he gestured for her to come inside as he closed the door.
Erika nodded her head and sat in the chair offered by Edith.
Realizing that she wanted to say something, Miguel snapped his fingers and activated the [Concealment Barrier] as he beckoned for her to talk.
"I suspect that Alderic was in on this," she said after a bit of hesitation.
The remaining respect she had toward Alderic as a City Lord was gone as her suspicion toward him grew.
Miguel took his skull mask off as he asked, "Why do you say so?"
Erika released a sigh and replied, "It’s because he killed that messenger. Even if he suspects him to be colluding with the bandits, it would not be wise to kill him right away, right?"
"The messenger was our only link to that person in the main branch. Now that he is dead, where do we find another clue or link? I think Alderic is part of a bigger plot behind the scene. And since the assassins failed, they thought that the messenger was already useless; hence, Alderic killed him to silence and cut off our only lead. "
Her voice was anxious as she recounted her suspicions. A frown and confusion were visible on her face as she grew anxious due to their only lead being cut off.
Seeing her state and hearing her suspicions, Miguel also nodded his head.
"Actually, your suspicions are not without basis. However, I can guarantee you that Alderic doesn’t have anything to do with the assassins. He is actually as clueless as us regarding this and still believes that it was the bandits who sent the assassins," he said.
"Besides, the assassins had a poisonous pill in their pockets the entire time in case they got caught and tortured. If the messenger was indeed a collaborator, then we could only assume that he also has a pill on him that he can consume anytime to avoid revealing any information," added Miguel, who took out a black pill the size of a thumb inside the grimoire storage space.
This pill was something he got from the assassin leader. Due to his mind being too vulnerable during that time, his reason had already succumbed to the back of his head, and he divulged all the information that Miguel wanted without any lies.
When the leader recovered from his stupor, though, he immediately reacted and took this pill out of his chest pocket, intending to consume it.
However, Miguel was able to stop him at the last second, but he still killed him a few seconds later after taking the pill away from him. Miguel then stored it inside for research purposes later on.
Miguel explained to Erika that Alderic was clean, at least for now.
After a while, Erika finally calmed down her anxiety and stress.
Miguel told her not to worry too much about it and to just act normally.
When one was at the end of the rope and was very anxious, it would seem as if everyone was your enemy and that you were alone.
Miguel knew that if this was not stopped in time, Erika would succumb to such a state of no return.
Fortunately, she came right to Miguel to state her suspicions; hence, Miguel was able to pacify her in time.
She looked up and thanked Miguel for the assurance before leaving the room.
After the door was closed, Edith could not help but comment.
"She’s getting terrified by the enemy that’s still in the dark."
"I know. For her, it seemed as if a sharp blade could fall on her neck at any moment; hence, she is anxious to find the identity of the person who orchestrated all these things. It’s okay, though. It might take a while, but I know that she’ll be able to recollect herself."
Edith nodded her head in understanding as she fell to the bed.
Although the battle earlier did not tire her for even a bit, she still felt relaxed as she felt the soft cotton behind her back.
Miguel smiled at the sight of her lying peacefully on the bed.
A beautiful smile hung on her face as she felt relaxed at the top of the bed.
She opened her blue eyes a moment later and turned towards Miguel cutely. "Can we sleep together tonight?"
"Of course," Miguel answered without any hesitation.
He went over and accompanied her to the bed as Edith welcomed him with a tight hug.
Both of them lay on the bed, unmoving. Hugging each other tightly and feeling each other’s warmth, the surroundings gradually turned quiet.
The night was already deep, and it was now time to go to sleep after such a long day.
However, before Miguel was able to do so, Edith suddenly suggested something that Miguel did not reject.
A streak of light appeared as Aaliyah was summoned right in front of the two.
