I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 136: In The Library
After Alderic left his view, Miguel turned around to observe the personal library of Alderic.
The scent of books filled his nose. He closed his eyes as he smelled the nostalgia wafting around the air.
As someone who was called the Boundless Sage of Knowledge in his previous life, Miguel’s thirst was truly unmatched and close to no one’s.
He had always loved to discover and learn new things, even when he was still young, and he still did not take the path of cultivation.
Seeing the rows of books allowed surges of memory from his past life to flash through his mind. A nostalgic feeling rose inside him as he began to roam the room full of books.
The library was not that big. It was only a little bigger than the guest room, but each corner of the room was filled with books arranged neatly on a shelf. There were a total of six shelves around the room, and a reading table was situated at the center of them all. A quill was also placed on the table, and two comfortable chairs were placed not far away from it.
It seemed that Alderic had truly prepared this library for him.
Miguel walked forward and traced the wooden shelf and then the books with his fingers. Edith walked behind him silently, admiring the view of Miguel being sentimental in front of the books.
Miguel roamed around the room and finally picked up some books before he returned to the table to begin reading.
Edith browsed around and began to look for a book to read as well. She saw Miguel getting immersed, and for some reason, she felt happy seeing him so carefree as he flipped through pages after pages.
A smile blossomed on her face as she finally took a book that was to her liking and brought it to the table as well. She purposely sat not far away from Miguel, afraid of disturbing his peace. She also began to read a moment later.
Unfortunately, though, not even twenty minutes had passed when she got bored.
’Reading truly isn’t for me. I can train for a whole month straight and not lose any concentration, but I can’t even read three pages in a row of this book for thirty minutes straight,’ she thought to herself mockingly.
She was not disheartened, though. This was just the way she was.
She was regarded as the most talented martial artist and swordswoman during her time. Studying was never her forte to begin with. If they discussed martial arts, however, she would surely have a thing or two to share.
Instead of reading, she thought that it was better just to look at Miguel while reading.
Her eyes seemed to penetrate behind the skull mask as she smiled to herself cutely with her chin resting on both of her palms.
Books after books were read by Miguel as if there was no tomorrow. His reading and comprehension speed were nothing to scoff at. Being able to read an entire book in less than an hour was not something ordinary people could do.
Unknowingly, a few hours had already passed since the two of them entered Alderic’s personal library.
Due to Miguel being immersed in his reading, he did not even bother stopping for lunch. Edith did not disturb him either; she was also happy to see him so immersed.
At the next moment, though, a knock was heard over the door.
Miguel merely looked at it before he went back to reading, not minding who was behind the door at all.
Edith was curious, though, so she stood up and walked towards the door after seeing a subtle nod from Miguel after informing him that she would go and see who it was.
Outside, Edith realized that it was Vena.
On her hand were three heavy-looking leather bags, possibly filled with Gold Coins.
Vena handed over the bags and said, "Miss Edith, this is all the Gold Coins that my grandfather owes you. He said that he already took some for his own commission, and if Lord Journey has some more Volcanic Wyrm scales, he would like to buy them in bulk for a much higher price."
"I think he found a fat client," she added.
Edith took the bags full of Gold Coins and nodded her head with a smile. "I understand. I’ll report it to him later, as he’s a little busy now," she said as she took a glance at Miguel with a gentle gaze.
Vena nodded her head politely as she withdrew herself away. She then stood at the side, accompanying the servant girl tasked with catering to Journey and Edith’s needs.
Edith closed the door and resumed looking at Miguel intently. She enjoyed looking at him more than reading a single page of any book in this entire room.
As minutes and hours passed by, piles of books had already been stowed away not far from Miguel.
Being the understanding wife that she was, Edith helped Miguel by bringing him more books to read while returning the ones he had already finished reading. This also made Edith feel that she was being useful to Miguel, allowing her to smile every time Miguel gave her a kiss after she handed him a new book to read. Every time he did so, her face would always blush, and her heart would pound in excitement.
And as though he has a complete grasp of time, Miguel suddenly closed the last book he was reading and called it a day, right before the sun sets.
He stood up, stretched his muscles, and began tidying up the place that had become a little messy after his reading spree.
After a while, he and Edith walked out of the door as Vena and the other servant immediately came forward.
"Can one of you please inform the City Lord that I am ready to browse through his collection?"Miguel stated while walking forward.
"I’ll do it, my lord," the servant stated with a bow before she left to inform Alderic immediately.
"Do you know where his collection vault is located?" Miguel asked curiously at Vena.
Vena did not even hesitate and nodded her head. "Yes. That place is strictly guarded all day long. I heard that the City Lord has the ability to unearth hidden treasures. And the treasures he got from his ability were all stored inside that vault of his."
"Ooh? I expect something good from there then," Miguel chuckled as Alderic’s figure entered his vision.
