Chapter 143: Deep Red Cliff

Iccb-Chapter 143:

Miguel did not cast the [Concealment Barrier] this time, as he stated, "I no longer have any matter to attend here in Red Cliff City. If you guys are done as well, then we could now go to Blazing City, to the main branch of the Red Family."

He spoke as though an elder were speaking to their children. His voice was also loud, enough for the prying ears to hear what he just said.

Erika took a glance at Gasper and said, "I am grateful for your help and guidance these past few days, Mr. Journey. As promised, I will bring you to the main branch and let our elders give you the necessary reward."

"I have not forgotten your promise. I hope that the reward will be to my satisfaction, though," he replied.

During these past few days, ’Journey’s’ personality and attitude have already been laid flat for everyone to see.

He was someone who liked to read and obtain new knowledge. A mysterious person from a long time ago with unfathomable strength. He was easygoing and didn’t put on airs even to the servants, yet he can be very dangerous when the time calls.

What Miguel decided to emphasize about ’Journey’s’ personality was that he was someone who loved to acquire new knowledge as well as someone who liked something in return for every favor he did.

It was rumored that the Red Family’s Erika and Gasper often went to his room to ask for guidance on how they should pursue the bandits. Only a week had passed, and they were already able to subdue the bandits in Red Cliff City.

The City Lord Alderic also seemed very respectful to Journey, allowing the rumors to become more exaggerated as time passed by.

Miguel did not prevent these rumors from spreading. It was also because of these rumors that they were able to convince everyone that they did not know a thing about the culprit behind the scenes.

Gasper also expressed his gratitude to Journey. After all, without him, they would have surely died a few times already by now.

After announcing their departure tomorrow morning, everyone immediately gets busy packing their belongings.

Alderic also heard of it a few hours later, as he rushed to Miguel’s room and asked if they ever did something that dissatisfied Journey.

Miguel just chuckled at his worried face as he explained that he was just staying here to read and to help Erika and the others with their vengeance against the bandits because of a promise.

As for the promise, Miguel did not divulge anything, as he knew Alderic should already be aware of what Erika said back then as well. Regarding that, Miguel was also sure that the elders of the Red Family already had an arrangement for him the moment he arrived at the main branch. After all, he knew for himself that there were multiple prying ears and eyes that had surrounded him these past few days.

With their decision already set, none of them wasted any more time as they departed early in the morning.

This time, five carriages could be seen driving off of Red Cliff City.

As per Alderic’s arrangement, the five carriages were escorted by guards riding ordinary horses in front and at the back.

These were all just formalities, though. As everyone knows, even without these guards, these carriages would still be able to reach Blazing City safely because Journey was there for them.

The carriages easily passed the famous Red Cliff.

Edith looked over and sighed. "I did not expect that this cliff is still here even after so many years had passed."

She did not see it clearly before, but after passing through it one more time, she realized that she was actually familiar with this cliff.

With her strength back then, it was actually very easy to erase the entrance to this massive cliff. In a battle between experts of her caliber, uprooting or razing a mountain and transforming the terrain into something new was actually possible.

Miguel was aware of this, so he used the [Concealment Barrier] and allowed her to explain further.

"Actually, this cliff had also been here when I fought with that demon back then. It actually hid at the deepest part of this cliff, and I ended up searching for it here for a few months. It only came out to ambush me at the last moment, and then our final battle started that day."

"This cliff actually has a lot of caves that connect to other areas. It’s like the tunnels underneath Ghost Wail Mountain. I even got lost inside a few times because of how complicated the tunnels inside were."

"Are there any strong beasts down there?" he asked.

Edith shook her head upon hearing that.

"There were some weak Silver Grade and Gold Grade beasts at around 1 kilometer deep. After that mark, I no longer encountered any beasts. This cliff is actually more than 100 kilometers deep. I found a secret entrance at the depth of around 10 kilometers to enter deeper and finally found the demon back then."

Miguel tilted his head to the side after hearing her explanation.

From the records in Red Cliff City, the Red Cliff was only around 1 kilometer deep. Those who explored no longer returned, while those who did so said that there were terrifying beasts lurking there and that there was just a flat surface right after the 1 kilometer mark.

He thought for a moment and guessed that Edith might have found another entrance to enter deeper at the 1 kilometer mark as well.

Miguel looked at the Red Cliff and planned to explore the area someday when he was strong enough.

He got curious about the tunnel-like caves that Edith mentioned, as he could not help but connect it to the tunnels underneath Ghost Wail Mountain.

"Is it possible that those tunnel-like structures in Red Cliff were also made by a sealed demon?" He asked.

Edith shook her head and explained, "No. If there was, I would have sensed it back then. I think the tunnels were naturally formed over the years, or the beasts themselves might have carved them out themselves."

"How long are the tunnels then? And where do they usually surface?"

Edith shrugged her shoulders and said, "There’s a lot of them, so I was not able to explore every tunnel. However, there were some of them that extended even up to the next mountain, so we can assume that the others were as long or even longer as well."

When Miguel heard that, his pupils suddenly constricted behind the skull mask as realization struck him at the next moment.
