Chapter 45: Demonic Beast

It was unfortunate that there were no moon and stars visible today due to the clouds, the surroundings were very dim and cold.

Everyone felt ants crawling on their skin, yet they still bravely went forward to examine what the commotion was all about a few meters away from them.

"What’s going on?"

"Don’t tell me it’s another Gold King Beast? Is our luck that bad?"

Encountering a Gold Grade Beast in a relatively safe path was unlucky enough, if they encountered another one now, could it be that their luck has gone down to the bottom?

Even Miguel himself frowned at this turn of unusual events. If this was indeed another Gold Grade Beast, he refused to believe that the two incidents were not related.

As the group went past the carriage formation, a silhouette suddenly flashed past in front of them.

The group was startled as they each took a step back.

This time, one of them finally lit up a fire lamp, illuminating what was in front of them.

The next scene made their scalp go numb.

A few meters ahead of them, a vague silhouette of a small beast could be seen dragging something on the ground.

When the fire illuminated the area, the beast stopped and turned its head towards them.

It was a hyena beast!

No, this was different from a normal hyena beast.

Its eyes were extremely red. Its head was very large, not in proportion to its body. Ribs protruding on its stomach, it was bone thin and had wounds all over its body. Saliva mixed with blood dripped on its mouth as it stared at the group.

The red-eyed hyena turned its attention to them with a growl. When Randy and Murphy saw the hyena’s appearance, both of them gasped and immediately exclaimed in shock and horror, "A Demonic beast!"

"Demonic beast?" Miguel inquired.

He was not a stranger to this word from his previous life, however, this was the first time that he had heard of something like this from this world.

Randy nodded his head. His face looked ghastly pale, it was apparent that the demonic hyena beast was not something one could encounter easily.

"Get ready for a fight!" Murphy stated as he formed a fighting stance.

Randy and the others nodded his head as he explained to Miguel, "Demonic beasts are normal beasts whose mind has been corroded by demonic miasma from hell. They are stronger than beasts of the same level and more fanatical. They won’t care about injuries and would just attack blindly without regard to injuries. It could be said that a demonized beast has already lost their own mind."

"They are called demonic beasts as they are extremely sinister compared to normal beasts as well. Not only that, these types of beast could no longer be contracted or tamed, may it grimoires or summoning crystal. Their meat is poisonous as well. It could be said these types of beasts are troublesome to kill yet have no value if killed at all."

"It’s a waste of time attacking or killing them, but if you encounter one, you won’t have a choice but to fight and kill it."

"Wake up Miss Erika and the others quickly! This beast is a Level 2 Spotted Hyena. If it has been demonized, then we can only assume that its strength is already comparable to a Level 3 Beast or even a Level 4 one," Randy continued, his eyes never left the demonized hyena who had now walked towards them slowly, as if a hunter stalking its prey.

Hearing his words, Miguel put up his guard immediately with a frown. He silently summoned the grimoire and prepared to summon the Volcanic Tortoise to fight. Of course, he did not summon it immediately and wanted to observe first. If he judged that the Volcanic Tortoise would not be able to defeat this hyena, then, he was prepared to summon Aaliyah and let her handle this demonic beast.

Although the Volcanic Tortoise was already at Level 2 and could contend with Normal Grade Level 3 and even Level 4, the hyena was still a demonized beast after all. Their strength would more than double according to Randy’s words earlier.

Meanwhile, hearing Randy’s instructions, one of the coachmen slowly retreated towards the carriages to wake up Erika.

However, the moment he made a move, the Demonic Spotted Hyena also pounced towards Murphy who was at the very front of the group.

"Attack!"

As if a cue had been, the six coachmen mercenary also pounced towards the Demonic Spotted Hyena one after the other.

Murphy, being the strongest of the bunch, did not retreat from the hyenas attack, instead, he raised his graded sword to block its attack bravely.

Murphy blocked the hyena’s attack successfully, yet his body was still thrown away due to its sheer strength.

If not for the fact that his sword was a graded weapon, it might have already shattered from the hyena’s attack just now.

Randy and the others arrived and attacked the hyena with their respective weapons. However, the hyena was very agile. It evaded their attacks like an adult playing tag with a child. They could not touch even a single breadth of its fur at all.

After all, no matter how experienced they were being a mercenary, they were still normal humans after all.

However, Murphy did not disappoint. Being the strongest of the bunch, even with his sickly thin body, he still recovered almost immediately and pounced towards the hyena, not allowing it to attack others.

His movements were swift and experienced, his sword slashed horizontally to the agile demonic beast in swift speed. Unfortunately, the hyena jumped back and evaded his attack before it pounced towards him in the next moment.

Murphy clicked his tongue and pulled back his sword to block its attack.

"DIE BEAST!"

Randy arrived just in time and kicked the hyena away. His attack was successful, yet it made his foot hurt as he felt that he just kicked a heavy boulder. Nevertheless, it still allowed Murphy to recover as he retreated away from the beast.

He gritted his teeth in anger and as if he had made up his mind, he took out a bronze-colored crystal from his waist and shouted, "Hold it back for a few seconds. I’ll summon my Level 3 beast!"

Randy and the other’s eyes lit up upon hearing his words. They did not waste any time as they pounced bravely to the demonic beast.

Murphy on the other hand did not waste his breath any further and did not wait for their reply.

He closed his eyes, with the bronze-colored crystal the size of two thumbs pressed on his two palms, he began to chant the summoning incantation.

The bronze-colored crystal on his hand glowed as a bronze light escaped his palm.

In the distance, tents opened up one after the other.

In one part were six mercenaries holding off a demonic hyena. On the other was Murphy summoning his beast to help them deal with the hyena. As long as Murphy could summon his beast, then victory would be theirs.

The light on his palm intensified along with the fight at the distance.

Three mercenaries had already been injured including Randy, yet both of them still had a smile on their face as they saw the intense light at their peripheral vision.

The light of victory was in their sight. However, at this moment, none of them was aware that another beast had actually creeped up right behind Murphy silently.

Swoosh!

The small beast pounced towards the unsuspecting Murphy at extreme speed.
