I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 55: Unexpected!
The journey towards Blazing City will take at most 72 hours of continuous travel. It was a pretty far and long journey, considering that they were traveling with the Wind Horses.
If they did not meet any hindrance along the way, they should be able to arrive at their destination in two to three days.
However, not even four hours later, the group actually encountered another situation.
All the carriages stopped in the middle of the road. The area they were in only has a few huge trees. Without thick bushes and grasses, the area around could be observed clearly with the naked eye.
In the middle of the road, a few meters ahead of the carriage, a person was lying on the ground covered in blood.
Upon seeing that scene, only one thought came up in Miguel’s mind.
As he saw the ’corpse’, he immediately shouted in a hurry, "Ambush! Do not stop the carriages!"
Upon hearing his shout, everyone immediately raised their guard.
Randy raised his eyes for a bit before he commanded the Wind Horse to move forward. The same could be said towards the other mercenary drivers.
Murphy clicked his tongue and was actually the first one to move forward. As the most experienced mercenary, he knew that this was definitely an ambush the moment he saw the ’corpse’ up close.
The corpse laid in the pool of blood, however, when Murphy’s carriage was about to pass by it, the corpse suddenly sprang up and got a hold of the carriage that he was driving. A dagger was on the corpse, no, to be more precise, a dagger was on the hands of the man pretending to be corpse as he slowly creeped towards Murphy who was driving the carriage.
Murphy gritted his teeth and continued to drive forward, "Prepare to fight. We are being ambushed by bandits!"
The moment he said that, the girls in his carriage summoned their grimoire one by one. However, out of all of them, only Erika could summon her grimoire in the short period of time. Murphy, who was aware of this could only continue moving forward, in the hopes of delaying the bandit. Fortunately, the carriage was closed tightly, and the bandit would surely go for him first, else, the girls might have been in danger right now.
And as though a cue, the moment the bandit sprang up and got a hold of Murphy’s carriage, multiple people also emerged from behind the trees. They were wearing dirty linen clothes, a smile hung on their face as they began to jump towards the moving carriage fearlessly.
In this world where the strong prey on the weak, banditry and other crimes were pretty normal occurrences. However, according to Erika and the others, bandits actually don’t appear on the road as they were afraid of mugging the wrong people. Usually, they would only target and pillage small villages, or even small mercenary teams if they have the right information.
Miguel clicked his tongue and looked at Randy before he looked at Gasper and the other boys who had already closed their eyes to summon their grimoire, preparing for the battle. Bids of sweat and nervousness could be seen on their faces, yet they made their best to summon their grimoire as quickly as possible.
However, these actions were proven to be correct, yet futile.
Multiple thuds could be heard as the carriage shook one after the other. Even if his [Divine Sense] was not active right now, Miguel knew that the bandits had already boarded their carriage.
Counting the bandits, Miguel knew that they were severely outnumbered. However, they were not simple people. They were all summoners and can summon a powerful beast to help during a fight.
The carriages could only stop one after another without a choice.
They have been surrounded by more than twenty bandits, each of them holding a weapon and were clearly dangerous individuals.
"Take whatever you want, just don’t take our lives," Murphy shouted the moment he knew that there was no escaping the bandit’s encirclement.
The best thing to do in this situation was to give the bandit what they wanted. Lives were more important than mere things, he knew of this fact as a well-experienced mercenary.
Life was fragile, yet very precious.
"Haha, of course we will!" The bandit who pretended to be a corpse earlier laughed out loud as he pointed the dagger towards Murphy!
"Alright, get out of your carriages calmly. We won’t hurt anyone as long as you follow our instructions calmly,"one of them stated with a calm voice. He seemed to be the leader of the bunch, riding a flaming horse that was clearly a summoned beast. There was no Summoning Grimoire around him though, so he should be a Crystal Summoner like Murphy.
Upon seeing him, Murphy and Miguel knew that they were not just a simple and ordinary bandit group.
Miguel and Murphy turned to look at the horse and gauge its strength.
Both of them knew that they still had a chance.
In Murphy’s carriage, the girls still had their eyes closed with Murphy trying to buy them some time for them to summon their grimoire. The same happened in Miguel’s carriage as the boys tried their best to summon their grimoires.
Strangely enough, maybe it was due to his nervousness, but Gasper actually did not manage to summon his grimoire even after a whole minute had already passed.
Miguel observed the situation calmly and as he and Murphy made a subtle eye contact, they seemed to realize what the other was planning.
A whole minute passed and when they still did not come out of their carriage, the leader of the bandit group frowned and roared, "I said, GET OUT OF YOUR RESPECTIVE CARRIAGE!"
A hint of savagery contained in his voice, one of the boys did not focus enough and was interrupted by the booming voice, making his effort of summoning his grimoire fail. He slumped to the ground clutching his chest, it was apparent that he was affected by the backlash of being unable to summon his grimoire.
Miguel frowned and just as he was about to get out of the carriage to slightly appease the bandit leader, an unexpected situation suddenly occurred.
Randy, who had not talked since earlier suddenly shouted.
"They are trying to summon their grimoires!"
