I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 57: Fight
Gasper’s attack was like a cue that allowed everyone to attack the bandits and the betraying mercenaries.
The fight started, each having their own goal and motivations.
Randy sighed and gestured for the others to attack.
The combatants on Miguel’s side were severely outnumbered. There were already over twenty bandits that ambushed them earlier. Including Randy and the other six mercenaries who were originally part of the bandit group, the enemy was now over thirty people in terms of number.
No matter how overpowered and fraudulent a grimoire user was, at this moment, only Erika and Miguel truly have the capability to fight back efficiently. All the others, including Gasper were all amateurs when it comes to fighting.
Ten summoners fought back as the advantage of numbers gradually showed.
If not for the shield protecting them, one of the young summoner’s might have already succumbed to their death by now.
At this point, even Murphy has already summoned his beast, the Level 3 Normal Grade Bighorn Sheep to help with the battle. However, even a powerful beast like that will meet its end if ganged up by multiple experienced fighters. Not to mention that some of the bandits were also graded Martial Artists like him.
Erika and the leader’s fight was still going on. The Flaming Skull was proven to be very powerful, the leader struggled and was almost being one-sidedly attacked by the Flaming Skull’s Skills.
Strangely enough, the bandits and even Randy seemed to have not noticed the leader’s plight. They were focused on their own fight, ganging up on the summoned beasts of the summoners while waiting for their respective absolute shields time to dissipate.
At the side, Miguel, who was able to observe the whole situation calmly noticed their actions.
Thinking back, Miguel realized a lot of suspicious actions from Randy and the other crew.
Every time they land on a city, Randy would always separate from the group and would excuse himself as trying to go to the Mercenary Guild. However, everyone, and Murphy could have done so instead of him as Murphy was the most experienced of the bunch.
However, Randy still volunteered to go there every time. Perhaps, it was during these moments that he would report their status to the bandits.
During their last day in Red Cliff City, it was also him who always urged Erika that they must continue the journey.
The demonic beast and the Golden King Beast were outside of their expectations, and the bandits lying in ambush were already getting impatient due to the delay, hence, Randy did his best to urge the group to move forward.
At that point, Miguel actually already had his suspicions.
However, due to his attention being diverted to what was going on behind the appearance of the Demonic Beasts and the Golden King Beast, this suspicious matter was put at the back of his mind and was ruled out as something insignificant.
Perhaps, the unusual sensation that he felt with his Innate Skill actually did not come from the Demonic Beast, instead, was actually because of the current event.
Miguel sighed as he shook his head internally. It seems that he got careless and let down his guard towards these people due to them experiencing a ’near-death’ situation together.
In terms of betrayal, it should have been him who should always be guarded against everyone.
However, suspecting everyone he met was not something he wanted to do. If he pursued such a mentality, then he would go crazy and succumb to his own downfall sooner or later.
As a person who lived for a long time during his previous life, Miguel saw a lot of people who came and went like the wind.
Some of them carried toxicity to his life, while some carried auspicious events.
Miguel had never rejected and avoided such things. He knew that it was only this way would he remain humane and sane.
Cultivating immortality and getting stronger was one thing, staying sane throughout these thousands of years was another.
People who succumbed to such fate were those who rejected and avoided interacting with others in fear of being betrayed. They died gruesome deaths, even when they were much younger and had more talent than him.
As they say, too much of one thing was as good as nothing.
At this point, Miguel saw that the situation was not in their favor at all. In the first place, he knew that they were at a huge disadvantage.
They don’t know the enemy’s strength yet the enemy knew of them due to Randy.
They were in the dark while the enemy was on the light.
In order to reverse the situation and avoid casualty, he would need to summon Aaliyah and let her end the fight as early as possible.
However, he refrained from doing so due to a lot of reasons.
For one thing, he realized that the bandits were actually still holding back and were restraining their attacks. They were smart and knew the grimoire summoner’s weaknesses. They wanted to drag the battle and go all out when the absolute shield’s duration ran out.
Miguel could have moved and killed one of them by now. However, he knew that this would only worsen their situation as it might aggravate the bandits making them act in anger and with revenge in mind.
Coupled with what Randy said earlier, Miguel knew there was a deep reason why they were doing this. Erika was their real target and Miguel knew that they had planned this for a long time for whatever reason they may have.
Another reason why Miguel refrained from going all out at this point was due to Randy and the other’s confidence towards their leader.
They must have already investigated Erika and must know her capabilities very well. If they were smart, they would not attack blindly if they knew that they would not be able to defeat.
Due to what he had shown during the past few days, Randy might have also reported him to the bandit group, making them on guard against him. However, despite having that information, they still dared to attack and continue with their plan.
There was only one reason for this. Either they must be dumb, or confident. Miguel refused to believe that it was the former due to how coordinated and planned the bandits actions until now.
And just like what he had thought, when the leader was almost blown to bits by the Flaming Skull’s attack, as if the last straw had been pulled, the leader suddenly grunted in rage.
"ENOUGH!"
"It’s time to end this!"
"Either you surrender and come with us willingly, or die right here and right now!"
As he said so, he suddenly pulled the halberd’s blade out of its shaft. He turned the shaft upside down and at the next moment, a silver colored summoning crystal slid down towards his palms.
Seeing the crystal, a look of horror immediately surfaced on everyone’s face.
The bandits on the other hand moved at the same time as though this was predetermined. Ten of them moved at the same time as they surrounded the leader, protecting him as he began to chant and summon whatever was inside the Silver Grade Summoning Crystal.
