Chapter 174: Chapter 113: New Deceitful Object, a Hammer (Part 2)

The benefit was that he could choose one Deceitful Object every year. This was a major perk of becoming a Ding Shou.

Shen Bai felt the promotion itself was fine, but the main prize was the Deceitful Object.

Liu Wufeng said with a sigh of resignation, "Go on. Just take your Ding Shou token and find Elder Mu."

He had already said all that needed to be said. Liu Wufeng felt there was nothing more to add.

Especially when he thought about how Shen Bai had managed to overcome the odds and defeat a superior opponent—one in the Meridian Realm, no less, a realm known as a watershed for Cultivators.

When Liu Wufeng compared his younger self to Shen Bai, his chest suddenly felt tight.

Shen Bai cupped his hands in a salute, said no more, and turned to leave the courtyard.

Liu Wufeng watched Shen Bai’s departing figure, then turned and went back into the two-story building to handle the Observatory’s affairs.

...

After leaving the courtyard, Shen Bai didn’t linger. With the Ding Shou token hanging from his waist, he headed straight for the resource room.

He was very excited, because he would soon be able to pick out a new Deceitful Object.

Along the way, quite a few people glanced in his direction. After all, Shen Bai’s name had already become famous throughout the Observatory.

Defeating a Meridian Realm cultivator while only in the Five Organ Realm—this was an utterly shocking feat in the entire Great Zhou Country.

Shen Bai had grown used to it. When colleagues greeted him along the way, he returned each greeting.

And so, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, he arrived at the resource room.

Elder Mu wasn’t napping at his desk this time. Instead, he was taking inventory of this month’s resources.

Every month, members of the Observatory came here to collect their resources. As the Landlord of the resource room, Elder Mu naturally had to check the ledgers meticulously, not allowing for the slightest mistake.

Hearing footsteps, Elder Mu looked up and glanced at Shen Bai. His eyes held a hint of amusement, especially after spotting the token at Shen Bai’s waist. "Well, well, if it isn’t Lord Shen Dingshou. Please, have a seat. Care for a drink?"

Shen Bai placed Amber on the table to play on its own and said helplessly, "Elder Mu, please don’t tease me. My position as Ding Shou is just a tiny step above a regular colleague. All I do is the hard, tiring work."

Elder Mu chuckled. "Anyone else who becomes the head of a division would be over the moon. But you, kid, you act like someone’s out for your life. What are you here for?"

Shen Bai grinned mischievously. "I’m here to collect the resources that come with being a Ding Shou, of course."

"I knew you were after something the moment I saw you. Go on, it’s in that room. All the Deceitful Objects are stored in there."

Elder Mu pulled his hand back.

Shen Bai followed the direction Elder Mu pointed and saw an ordinary-looking room, which didn’t even have a padlock on it.

"Elder Mu, this room seems a bit... careless," Shen Bai said, the corner of his mouth twitching.

’A room full of Deceitful Objects should be a treasury, or at the very least, heavily guarded,’ he thought. ’How can it be so simple, so plain that it looks just like a common storeroom?’

Elder Mu poured himself a cup of tea and took a small sip. Hearing Shen Bai’s comment, he set the cup down and said, "With me here, no one would dare take anything even if it were just lying on the ground. I live in the resource room. Who would dare set foot in here?"

Shen Bai nodded. "I’m still no match for Elder Mu." 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Elder Mu asked strangely, "In what way are you no match for me?"

Shen Bai said with a very serious expression, "In terms of presence, I’m still far inferior to you, Elder Mu. See, all I can do is defeat a Meridian Realm cultivator while in the Five Organ Realm. That’s nothing special at all."

Elder Mu’s face froze. He felt like slapping himself.

’Why did I have to try and show off in front of Shen Bai? He just threw it right back in my face.’

"Fine, fine, fine. Hurry up and pick something, then get the hell out of here." Elder Mu waved his hand impatiently, feeling that even the tea in his cup had lost its fragrance. "I don’t want to see your face right now, kid. Just looking at you is annoying."

Shen Bai burst out laughing, then turned around, ready to enter the room.

Elder Mu suddenly remembered something and held out his hand. "Right, you didn’t use my Sword Token this time. Give it back to me."

Shen Bai’s eyes widened. "What do you mean I didn’t use it? That battle was incredibly dangerous! Of course I used it."

Elder Mu smiled. "That Sword Token is connected to me. If you had used it, I would have sensed it. Are you trying to swindle me out of my Sword Token, kid?"

Shen Bai’s body froze. He then looked left and right, all around, as if he couldn’t see anything.

Seeing this, Elder Mu waved his hand. "Alright, go on and choose. I was just teasing you. Since I gave you the Sword Token, it’s yours. It’ll be a good life-saving measure for you."

Shen Bai’s eyes darted around. "Then I’ll go choose a Deceitful Object."

Elder Mu didn’t reply, but his meaning was clear: stop bothering him.

Only then did Shen Bai give Amber a look.

Amber let out a MEOW, leaped onto Shen Bai’s shoulder, and was carried by him into the storeroom that held the Deceitful Objects.

Elder Mu watched Shen Bai and Amber’s backs, shaking his head. ’This kid is really something. He even knows to use a Deceitful Beast to search for a Deceitful Object. He might actually find something good.’

The reward chosen from the resource room was entirely up to the individual.

Not even Elder Mu had the right to break this rule.

After all, a single ant can cause the collapse of a thousand-mile dam. Liu Wufeng managed this aspect very well.

Of course, the Cold Moon that Elder Mu had gifted him didn’t count, as that was Elder Mu’s personal item.

As the storeroom door shut, Elder Mu looked away from where Shen Bai had vanished. He paid him no more mind, lowering his head to continue reviewing the ledgers.
