I Can Extract Divine Power-Chapter 71: The Coffin, Zhang Chaofeng Appears
In this situation, if no one took the lead and continued downward, everyone would likely just stand there staring at each other, completely unwilling to move.
Shen Bai had just absorbed two wisps of Evil Qi, and as Qin Shuang had said earlier, the Evil Beast was likely the final obstacle guarding the core of the tomb.
While this might have been a daunting prospect for the others, for Shen Bai, it was practically a one-sided slaughter.
Shen Bai felt it was time for this tomb’s mysteries to come to an end, and for the score between him and Zhang Chaofeng to be settled once and for all.
Although Zhang Chaofeng was currently hiding somewhere unknown, the tomb was his objective as well.
With Shen Bai leading the way, Qin Shuang and Zhou Qing exchanged a glance and followed close behind him.
After the three of them, the next group to descend was Chief Zheng and his men.
Finally, the remaining Jianghu People looked at one another and followed suit.
...
The passage was narrow, but sparse rays of light allowed them to proceed downward safely.
By the faint light, Shen Bai could now see that the inner walls of the passage were covered in carved murals.
The murals were blurry and indistinct, clearly warped by ages of erosion, but Shen Bai could still make out some unsettling details.
One mural depicted a Daoist in a Daoist Robe, holding a Bell and a Wooden Sword. He stood upon an altar, pointing toward the sky.
Below him were commoners dressed in ragged clothes.
Each person was holding a sharp weapon plunged into their own torso, with blood streaming down the blades onto the ground.
Yet, their eyes were filled with nothing but fanatical devotion.
Qin Shuang examined the mural for a moment before saying, "Practitioners of Wild Daoist Techniques often have followers, but they are all just as fanatical and crazed as this."
"So I see," Shen Bai said, running his hand over the mural.
In truth, they were getting closer to the exit. A faint light could already be seen flickering ahead.
However, the white glow emanating from Shen Bai’s Bright Jade Evil Body outshone it, making the faint light from the exit seem less obvious.
Everyone was on high alert, wary of any anomalies that might appear in the passage.
But the outcome was the complete opposite of what they expected.
The passage was quiet. Nothing happened at all.
When Shen Bai stepped out of the passage and surveyed his surroundings, an expression of shocked disbelief crossed his face.
The others emerged behind him, their expressions even more stunned than his.
They were in a massive cavern. Bizarrely shaped stalactites hung from the ceiling high above.
And below, there was a coffin bound in iron chains.
The ends of the chains were anchored deep into the cavern walls, pulling them completely taut.
The coffin itself was plastered with all sorts of Talisman Paper, the red ink on them flickering with an unsettling light.
Beneath it stood rows of Terracotta Warriors made of clay.
The facial features of the Terracotta Warriors were incredibly realistic.
Even their expressions were so vivid they seemed like real people.
A cold, sinister aura swirled through the chamber, but Shen Bai’s gaze remained fixed on the coffin.
Two more chains dangled from the ceiling, hanging just above the coffin.
One held a Peach Wood Sword, while the other held a Bell.
Both the Peach Wood Sword and the Bell looked ancient, covered in a thick layer of dust, and they emanated the same chilling aura.
Deceitful Objects. Two of them, both suspended by chains.
And the sinister aura emanating from the coffin below was the aura of a Deceitful.
Shen Bai thought to himself, ’There’s a Deceitful in the coffin.’
Just then, as if sensing the presence of the living, the Deceitful in the coffin began to move violently.
As the Deceitful struggled, the entire coffin began to tremble.
The densely packed Talisman Paper plastered on the coffin flashed with red light, as if trying to suppress the Deceitful within.
As the coffin’s captive thrashed about, the Terracotta Warriors below also began to shake.
Chunks of clay fell from the Terracotta Warriors, revealing desiccated corpses underneath.
The corpses didn’t emanate the aura of a Deceitful, but their motionless presence was deeply unsettling.
Seeing this, Qin Shuang’s eyes widened. "This is bad!" she shouted. "I know who the master of this tomb is!"
Shen Bai turned to her. "Who?"
Qin Shuang took a deep breath. "Decades ago, there was a figure from the Daoist School who practiced Wild Daoist Techniques and roamed the world. He was most skilled in the art of creating Talisman Soldiers."
"Talisman Soldiers?" Shen Bai asked. "Like those things we encountered at the beginning?"
Qin Shuang shook her head. "He modified the technique. Instead of using blood from a living person’s heart, he used living people themselves to create his Talisman Soldiers. He would carve Dao Patterns directly onto their bodies, letting them die in agony and turn into these desiccated corpses."
"After they died, he would use their lingering resentment as a catalyst to create this special type of Talisman Soldier."
Shen Bai’s gaze fell upon the host of corpses. "So, you’re saying these are those special Talisman Soldiers?"
Qin Shuang nodded. "Back then, he slaughtered many villages and took a large number of bodies with him before he died. It seems these are them. He called these Talisman Soldiers ’Demons’ and proclaimed himself the founder of a new school of Wild Daoist Technique. He was completely mad."
As the two spoke, the surrounding Jianghu People overheard the gist of their conversation, their eyes turning to the coffin in shock.
Chief Zheng said, "There’s Talisman Paper on the coffin. It seems to be suppressing him."
Every one of the coffin’s movements was completely suppressed by the Talisman Paper. But knowing the nature of a Cultivator of Wild Daoist Techniques, he would never have sealed himself away like this, even in death.
Shen Bai was puzzled as well. The scene before them was simply too bizarre.
But his eyes remained locked on the two Deceitful Objects and the Deceitful below. ’How can I get my hands on those Deceitful Objects,’ he wondered, ’then deal with the Deceitful and absorb its Evil Qi?’
Just then, an ordinary-looking man from the group of Jianghu People began to quietly approach the coffin.
Everyone else was standing perfectly still, so this man’s movement immediately made him the center of attention.
As if sensing all eyes on him, the man turned his head and gave them a sinister smile.
His eyes looked past the others and locked onto Shen Bai, a mocking glint within them.
Shen Bai’s expression was calm as he spoke slowly, "So, you finally couldn’t resist showing yourself, Zhang Chaofeng."
Blood-red Sword Qi erupted from his Longsword, shooting straight toward Zhang Chaofeng with irresistible power.
The whistling attack carried such a fierce killing intent that it forced the onlookers to shield their eyes.
But the man, locked on by the Sword Qi, made no move to defend himself, allowing it to pierce straight through his body. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
His clothes shredded, revealing nothing but dry straw underneath.
"Shen Bai, you truly are ruthless. What a pity. By helping me reach this place, you’ve already lost."
