I Can Recognize Everything, But the Information is Wrong-Chapter 319 - 283 The Cause
Tian Lin, along with sisters Yu'er, entered the grand hall, only to unexpectedly find more than just Elder Xue and one or two Nascent Soul elders present.
The lanterns in the hall were still habitually lit.
Elder Xue sat in the center, while beneath him knelt Brother Tang and a lady in white.
Tian Lin knew in his heart that the lady in white was defiant toward Elder Xue, so this kneeling was not to admit wrongdoing to Elder Xue but to the Nascent Soul elder to Elder Xue's left.
Although Tian Lin had never met this Nascent Soul elder, it wasn't hard to guess from his features that he was Brother Tang's grandfather, Elder Tang from the sect's Elder Court.
This Elder Tang's face was as calm as water, yet, without speaking, he exerted a stifling pressure on everyone present.
In contrast, the Nascent Soul elder to Elder Xue's right wore a smile, appearing very amiable to both Tian Lin and the lady in white.
Tian Lin removed Cui'er, barely managing to stand, first paying respects to Elder Xue and Elder Tang, then finally to that Nascent Soul elder: "Junior greets Elder Mei."
This smiling, kind old man was indeed Grandfather of Immortal Mei.
Tian Lin never expected Grandfather of Immortal Mei to appear here.
"Since Young Friend Tian is injured, please sit down without further formalities."
After Elder Mei spoke, Elder Xue requested, "Bring two cushions for Tian Lin and Lady Mei to sit."
A Daoist Child obeyed, quickly placing two cushions beside the lady in white.
Tian Lin glanced at the lady in white and laboriously sat on the cushion.
The current scene showed that several people were facing the three elders.
Yet, the lady in white and Brother Tang were kneeling, while Tian Lin and Immortal Mei were sitting.
How could this not infuriate the lady in white?
Then Elder Xue said, "Bring a cushion for Elder Wu."
As the Daoist Child was about to bring the cushion, Elder Tang's cold voice interrupted, "Let her kneel! She must understand that the sect does not belong solely to her or to the Tang Family, but to everyone."
The lady in white, originally intending to stand up, had to kneel again in humiliation and resentment.
Tian Lin sensed her murderous intent rising, though it was likely directed at him.
With the dispute already in motion, Tian Lin didn't intend to quell her fury.
He simply sat resolutely on the cushion, waiting for Elder Xue above to speak.
"We've seen the events on the mountain."
Elder Xue asked the lady in white, "Elder Wu, are you the Law Enforcement Elder of the sect?"
The lady in white, foreseeing her grim fate, replied calmly, "Disciple is not the Law Enforcement Elder of the sect."
Elder Xue queried further, "Since you are not the Law Enforcement Elder of the sect, why did you privately punish Tian Lin and Young Friend Mei?"
The lady in white raised her head, "The Mei family killed my eldest son and injured my second son. Disciple acted out of indignation for her children."
"Since they are all disciples of the sect, the truth of the matter should be determined by the Law Enforcement Hall before any actions are taken. When did it become your turn to act?"
Elder Xue, ceasing further questioning, decisively spoke to Elder Tang beside him, "As she holds the position of Teaching Elder, her punishment should be decided by the elder council. Old Tang, what do you think?"
Elder Tang stood up, "No need. I will take her back, mandating her resignation from her Teaching Elder position and keeping her confined for ten years."
The lady in white's expression changed, and she looked up at Elder Tang.
Brother Tang, kneeling, moved two steps, "Grandfather, what wrong has my mother committed?"
Elder Tang, gazing at his grandson, replied, "Your brother's death was the consequence of an agreed duel; he lacked the necessary skills. As for you,—you unjustifiably provoked your Senior Sister Mei. Aren't you going to apologize?"
Brother Tang's face flushed as he looked at Immortal Mei.
By this time, Immortal Mei had somewhat recovered and was sitting more upright.
"It's merely children's antics, so why so serious, Old Tang?"
Elder Mei intervened to ease the situation, allowing Brother Tang to think he could evade his apology without losing face.
But before he could relax, his grandfather's expression darkened, "Do you want to be confined at home for ten years like your mother?"
Hearing the threat in his grandfather's tone, the grown-up Brother Tang couldn't hold back tears.
He stood up and respectfully saluted Immortal Mei. Yet, before he could speak, his grandfather stepped on the back of his knee.
This forced him to kneel before Immortal Mei. Despite such a grand apology, Immortal Mei felt no pleasure but frowned instead.
In the grand hall, both Elder Xue and Elder Mei frowned, though neither intervened.
And so, Brother Tang kowtowed three times, and was finally dragged away by Elder Tang.
As this family of three left, the oppressive atmosphere in the hall dissipated.
Elder Xue's expression was unsightly; Elder Mei smoothed his beard, remarking, "This Brother Tang indeed has a fiery temper."
Elder Xue said, "My senior brother has always been reclusive, causing his actions to often be unexpected. Elder Mei, please don't mind."
Elder Mei replied, "It's all caused by my granddaughter, who constantly stirs up trouble."
He admonished Immortal Mei, "Remember, you're no longer a disciple of the Goddess Sect and mustn't act willfully. Today it's thanks to your Grandfather Xue; otherwise, wouldn't you have suffered greatly? Hurry and thank your Grandfather Xue with a kowtow."
When Immortal Mei kowtowed, it was vastly different from Brother Tang's apology. His was an act of shame, whereas hers was her grandfather securing a powerful ally for her in the sect.
After kowtowing three times, Elder Xue helped Immortal Mei stand up. He told Elder Mei:
"Rest assured, Elder Mei, as long as your granddaughter does not cause trouble in the sect, no one will bully her."
Elder Mei replied, "And you can be assured, Elder Xue, once your grandson comes to the Goddess Sect, I will treat him like my own grandchild."
Sitting on the cushion, Tian Lin suddenly understood that these two old men were conducting a trade.
Elder Mei, concerned about Immortal Mei potentially being bullied in the sect, sought Elder Xue's protection for her.
Similarly, Elder Xue intended for his ghost fetus grandson to be taken by Elder Mei to the Goddess Sect, as he could not properly grow within the sect.
Tian Lin now suspected that when he and Immortal Mei were harmed by Elder Wu halfway up the mountain, the three elders above could have intervened to prevent it long ago.
They hadn't intervened as Elder Mei wanted to see if his 'master', would be protective of her.
Fortunately, he was somewhat 'protective', otherwise he might have offended this Elder Mei, leading Elder Xue to form a poor opinion of him.
