I Can Replicate Martial Arts-Chapter 128 - 76: You Brat, Don’t You Know How to Save Me Some Face?
Xiaoye and the other two came over to say hello, exchanged contact information, then hurriedly returned to their posts.
There was simply too much to handle. Not only had many Court personnel become casualties, but many civilians had also lost their lives in the conflict.
They also had to file a detailed report on the incident, including everything they had witnessed regarding Zhao Rui.
Night had fallen. A bright moon hung high in the sky, and the biting wind howled with a stark chill. Outside the station, the sirens of ambulances and police cars rose and fell in an unending chorus.
The entire train station was cordoned off by armed Patrols carrying live ammunition. No one was permitted to enter or leave.
All cell phones and communication devices were collected and managed, organized by train car.
Zhao Rui’s was no exception.
After checking on Zheng Huai Peak, he was led to the station’s reception room.
Several official-looking individuals were already waiting there.
As soon as Zhao Rui arrived, someone stepped forward to make introductions.
The man in charge was, surprisingly, a high-ranking official from the Provincial Patrol Bureau—a genuine Advanced administrator from the government office.
"Young Student Zhao, you’re quite an impressive young man. I hear you’re a student at Dongqi University?"
Before arriving, they had already contacted Dongqi University and confirmed Zhao Rui’s identity.
"Yes, I’m a member of the university’s Martial Arts Team."
"Oh? From the Martial Arts Team, no less. How rare, how fortunate!"
Although everyone present was already aware of this, hearing him confirm it still brought looks of relief to their faces.
Even the weakest member of the Dongqi University Martial Arts Team was beyond compare to an ordinary Martial Artist.
’Thank goodness Zhao Rui was there. Otherwise, for an incident like this to happen so suddenly and cause so many casualties... even if we weren’t directly responsible, we would have certainly been implicated.’
"Young Student Zhao, thank you for stepping up at such a critical moment..."
With an affable smile, the official lavished praise and encouragement on Zhao Rui. He commended him for being fearless in the face of danger and for his proper handling of the situation, calling him a role model for the new era’s university Martial Artists.
Zhao Rui couldn’t accept such lofty praise. He quickly deflected the credit to Lin Yan and the other Patrols, saying that they were the ones who had fought tooth and nail to draw the main fire; they were the real heroes.
He claimed he was just an assistant who had lent a hand.
Protecting the nation was a job for the Patrols.
The official hadn’t expected Zhao Rui to be so modest and tactful. He probed a few more times, albeit subtly, before confirming that Zhao Rui genuinely did not want the credit.
This made him even more pleased.
He might not have wanted the primary credit, nor did he need it, but his contribution was undeniable and could not be dismissed.
The official stated that once the incident was fully resolved, he would send a formal notice to Dongqi University to issue a public commendation for Zhao Rui.
"Will there be a bonus?"
Zhao Rui scratched his head, looking a bit abashed. "My clothes got torn. I’m afraid I’ll have a hard time explaining it when I get home."
"Yes, yes! It will definitely be enough to buy a new outfit."
The official laughed heartily. The fact that this train hijacking had been resolved safely, without any irreversible losses, was already a monumental achievement in itself.
’Even if my own merits and demerits in this matter cancel each other out, I can still walk away with a decent commendation for my record.’
’A bonus? That’s a trivial matter.’
"Young man, would you be interested in working for our Patrol Bureau after you graduate?"
the official asked with a smile.
"Sir, I’m only a freshman."
Zhao Rui scratched his head, a little embarrassed. "Can I wait until my senior year to give you an answer?"
"Haha, of course. I’ll keep the offer open for you."
The official was very pleased with Zhao Rui’s response. After a few more words of encouragement, he had someone escort Zhao Rui from the reception room.
The lockdown lasted until past eleven o’clock at night. Only then was Zhao Rui allowed to leave the station. They also informed him that they would minimize his documented involvement in the incident.
This was, in a way, a form of protection for him.
As for the cause of the incident, the person the kidnappers had demanded be released, or why they would risk such a desperate act, Zhao Rui was completely in the dark.
After changing his clothes, Zhao Rui took a designated car from the Patrol Office home. By the time he arrived, his parents, Zhao Jincheng and Xue Wenhui, and his younger brother, Zhao Ke, were all waiting anxiously for him in the living room.
They all breathed a collective sigh of relief upon seeing him return safely.
They rushed to ask him what had happened on the train, their voices full of concern. Following the official narrative, Zhao Rui downplayed the incident, turning a major event into a minor one, and a minor one into nothing. He passed it off as a common criminal case.
"How are things getting so chaotic? A while back, there were several murders in the district. I heard Martial Artists were behind them. It’s making everyone so anxious."
Xue Wenhui said, her voice filled with apprehension, "Son, you have to protect yourself out there. Don’t think you’re invincible just because you’ve studied the Martial Dao. In all things, try to be more patient!"
"Take a step back, and the world opens up. A moment of patience can calm any storm. Son, your mother and I sent you to learn the Martial Dao, not so you could get into vicious fights. Do you understand?" Zhao Jincheng added in a grave, heartfelt tone.
Hearing his parents’ words, Zhao Rui was overcome with embarrassment, his heart filled with guilt.
’Vicious fights? Me? Impossible, absolutely impossible. These days, when I fight, it’s rivers of blood and fields of corpses.’
’The scene... it was a real festival of gongs and drums...’
Ugh. Thinking of that image, Zhao Rui felt his stomach begin to churn again.
He quickly made an excuse and fled to the bathroom. He splashed his face with water, rinsed his mouth, and silently recited the Mental Tranquility Technique for a few moments until his mind finally calmed.
When he returned to the living room, Zhao Rui deliberately changed the subject. He chatted with his family about his first semester at the university for a while before heading back to his bedroom to rest.
The events of the afternoon had been too mentally taxing. Even he felt a bit weary.
Back in his bedroom, he fell into a deep sleep.
The next day, for the first time in a long while, Zhao Rui slept soundly through the night, even missing his morning training.
He slept until the sun was high in the sky.
