Chapter 55: 55 The Gap Between Perfect Scores

This situation was unheard of.

A level 25 monster was an absolute nightmare for any college entrance trial candidate. It was powerful, overwhelming, and completely unbeatable.

Against a monster of that level, candidates could only use skills to stall. They just had to survive until three minutes were up.

Every year, some candidates passed this stage without injury through sharp control and clean execution.

But this year, something clearly went wrong.

The very first second the test began, Zayne cast a Forbidden Spell. The level 25 monster was instantly killed.

For the remaining two minutes and fifty nine seconds, Zayne simply sat there. He waited in silence for the countdown to end.

"I take back what I said earlier," one examiner muttered while shaking his head. "With Forbidden Spells thrown around like that, forget twenty three. If this kid lives past twenty, it will be a medical miracle."

Zayne’s performance was shocking, but the examiners did not approve of it.

In their eyes, he was burning his body and future for short term power.

At this moment, Zayne had already entered the eighth stage.

"Should we raise the difficulty of Zayne’s final three stages?" one examiner asked Kasady.

The remaining stages were all live combat tests.

Candidates would fight a monster at their own level, then one two levels higher, and finally one four levels higher.

That meant even in the tenth stage, Zayne would only face a level 22 monster.

He had already one shotted a level 25 Blazing Fire Demon Wolf. A level 22 monster stood no chance.

Kasady frowned. He hesitated.

If the difficulty stayed the same, Zayne would clear everything with full marks. Raising it, however, felt unfair to him.

"I would like your opinion," Kasady said to Charlotte. "If we increase the difficulty and Zayne still clears with full marks, would Supreme Academy accept him?"

If Charlotte agreed, raising the difficulty would not be an issue. It would also reveal Zayne’s true limit. So far, he looked completely relaxed.

"I am sorry," Charlotte said as she shook her head. "I cannot agree."

She turned her gaze toward several other candidates.

"In my view, Evan, Kai, Nia, and Francis are all more qualified for Supreme Academy than Zayne."

"Zayne is a Forbidden Spellcaster. His current strength comes from burning his life and future. It is only a brief flash."

"He is not the kind of student Supreme Academy needs. Training him would be a waste of resources."

Kasady opened his mouth, as if wanting to respond. In the end, he said nothing.

The four names Charlotte mentioned were genuine geniuses. They only seemed ordinary because Zayne existed as a reference.

In the end, Zayne’s difficulty was not raised.

Against level 18, level 20, and level 22 monsters, the fights held no suspense. Each one ended in an instant kill.

After clearing the final stage, Zayne reappeared on the Blackstone Plaza. He was the first candidate to pass all ten stages.

Some time later, the other candidates finished as well. The plaza grew lively again.

Many candidates excitedly shared their results with friends.

"Zayne!"

Francis ran over at full speed.

"Ninety six points. I am locked in. This time I am really locked in."

Francis was overflowing with excitement. With this score, winning three more arena matches would guarantee entry into Imperial Capital Academy.

"You did not get full marks?" Zayne asked, slightly curious.

Francis was already level 15. Even if warrior assessments differed from mage ones, the difficulty should be similar.

"Do not remind me," Francis said awkwardly while scratching his head. "I lost points in the combat tests. I leveled too fast and could not adapt in time."

His level was inflated, after all. He had followed Zayne all the way to level 15. Without Zayne, he would still be level 7.

While the two were talking, Kasady announced the results of the comprehensive assessment.

"First place, Zayne, 100 points."

"Second place, Nia, 100 points."

"Third place, Evan, 98 points."

"Fourth place, Francis, 96 points."

"Fifth place, Kai, 95 points."

After reading the results, Kasady spoke loudly.

"Candidates with scores below 85, please leave in an orderly manner under examiner guidance."

"Candidates above 85 may also leave. Leaving now will count as forfeiting tomorrow’s arena matches."

The moment Kasady finished speaking, Nia’s eyes widened in shock.

She had a perfect score. Why was she ranked below Zayne?

If both had full marks, they should be tied for first. Why was she second?

Nia raised her hand and spoke loudly.

"Examiner, I object to this ranking. We both have perfect scores. Why am I second?"

Her words immediately stirred confusion among the crowd.

"That is right. Both are perfect. Why no tie?"

"Same score, but the guy ranks higher? How biased is this world against women?"

"This is unfair. This is discrimination. This is oppression. If there is no proper explanation, we will appeal."

"Yes. We want fairness."

Facing the rising anger, Kasady’s expression did not change at all.

He calmly pulled up the clearance recordings of both Zayne and Nia.

"Please watch the VCR."
