Chapter 89: 89 Stay for a Proper Meal

As the fire dragon came roaring in, the demon race man finally wised up.

Fighting Zayne meant one thing. You could not judge by casting gestures, and you definitely could not trust the spell name. All of that was bait. Only the actual power mattered.

Demonic energy surged around him. A massive black barrier of condensed magic formed in front of his body.

The fire dragon slammed into the barrier with a thunderous explosion. Flames and demonic power collided head on, unleashing violent shockwaves. The surrounding air twisted under the pressure.

The fire dragon thrashed against the black shield, roaring as it tried to break through. No matter how fiercely it struggled, the barrier stood firm, like an immovable mountain.

Behind it, the demon race man showed a faint, mocking smile.

At that moment, a pinpoint of golden light no larger than a needle tip landed on the surface of the black shield.

By the time he realized what it was, a brilliant golden spear had already pierced straight through his heart.

He lowered his head slowly, staring at the weapon that had skewered his chest. His eyes filled with disbelief as violet blood dripped steadily from the spearhead.

"I lost to a human? How is that possible?"

He lifted his head again. The calm arrogance from before was gone, replaced by rage and a twisted snarl.

"You have angered me. I will cut off your head and hang it in my study as a trophy."

He roared as demonic power exploded outward. The golden spear shattered instantly.

The Eternal Adamant spear excelled at piercing defenses. Its raw destructive power was weaker than other Forbidden Spells. Even with his heart pierced, the demon race man was still capable of fighting.

He charged toward Zayne in fury.

Zayne had no intention of engaging a berserk demon in close combat.

"Forbidden Spell Swiftstep Waltz!"

His speed surged instantly. He flickered across the battlefield like a phantom. The demon race man could not even touch him.

Zayne raised the Raging Flame Staff once more. With the staff boosting fire magic by fifty percent, fire spells had become his clear favorite.

Blazing flames gathered at the tip of the staff, igniting the surrounding air.

This time, Zayne held nothing back.

"Forbidden Spell Infernal Overdrive!"

"Light Spell!"

He chanted rapidly. A fire dragon even larger than before burst from the staff, roaring as it charged straight at the demon race man.

Fear flashed through the demon’s eyes. He hurriedly poured his magic forward, trying to recreate the indestructible black barrier.

But the power this time was far beyond his expectations.

Forbidden Spells were terrifying by nature. With Infernal Overdrive and the Raging Flame Staff stacked together, this spell now carried enough force to threaten even level 50 Transcenders.

The black barrier shook violently under the impact. Cracks spread across its surface in rapid succession.

With another collision, the barrier shattered completely.

The explosion sent the demon race man flying. He smashed through several towering trees before finally coming to a stop.

He struggled to rise, only to drop back to one knee, coughing up a mouthful of violet blood. His eyes were filled with unwilling disbelief.

He had lost. To a human.

"How is this possible? A mere human should not possess this kind of power."

Zayne narrowed his eyes. The demon race clearly had strong regeneration, but it was not limitless. That was good enough.

"Sir!"

Seeing their leader injured, the other demons could no longer remain still. They surged forward together, demonic energy erupting into the sky.

Zayne’s expression tightened. These demons were nothing like the injured leader. Their auras were terrifying. At level 25, he had no chance against them.

"Stop right there!"

A sharp shout rang out.

Robert propped himself up on his blade and staggered forward, placing himself between the demons and everyone else.

His body was covered in wounds. Blood soaked his clothes. His left arm hung uselessly at his side, clearly broken.

"Why is this human still alive? Baykal, what are you doing?" one demon shouted angrily.

The demon called Baykal stood tall like a steel tower.

The next instant, his massive body collapsed as if a mountain had fallen. A horned head rolled dozens of meters away before stopping. The cut at the neck was smooth and clean.

"Baykal!"

The surrounding demons stared in shock. None of them had expected Baykal to die by Robert’s blade.

Robert raised his sword. Madness burned in his eyes.

"Come on, you demonic trash. Let me see how many of you I can drag down with me before I die."

He was clearly on the verge of death, yet an overwhelming killing aura erupted from him. For a moment, it actually held the demons in place.

That hesitation did not last long.

A demon with wings and a vicious face lunged forward.

"A human dares to speak so boldly? I will devour every piece of your flesh and avenge Baykal."

The demon moved at blinding speed and appeared in front of Robert in an instant.

Despair surfaced in Robert’s eyes. Killing Baykal had already taken everything he had. He had no strength left to face another demon.

At least this way, he would die in front of all the champions. He had done his duty.

Robert closed his eyes.

The expected pain never came.

When he opened them, a tall figure was standing in front of him.

That figure pressed a single finger forward, pinning the winged demon in place so completely it could not move.

Robert’s face lit up as he recognized the man.

The Lord of Bitnoris. Marcus.

"Lord Marcus!"

Relief flooded Robert’s voice. If Marcus was here, everyone was safe.

As the ruler of a top tier city, Marcus ranked among the strongest in all of Aurelion.

"You did well this time."

Marcus nodded slightly. His sharp gaze swept over the demons, cold and merciless.

"If the demon race dares to sneak into human territory and cause trouble, then none of you are leaving today. Stay and enjoy a proper meal."
