I Faked My Death—Now I Have to Tame the Crazy Men I Left Behind-Chapter 38 - 36: Mia Grant Gets Hit
"Ah!"
A short shriek rang out. Mia Grant’s eyes widened in panic. "Sister, are you okay?!"
Serena Grant was sitting in the front row. Both of their hands had been on the desk, right next to each other. When the coffee spilled, from that angle, it was hard for the many people in the back to tell who had actually moved.
"Quick, wipe it off! How could you be so careless!"
Mia Grant hurriedly used her own sleeve to help Serena Grant wipe the coffee stains off her clothes.
"Get off me!"
Her hand was slapped away forcefully, the back of it quickly turning red.
Mia Grant’s eyes filled with fear. Her shoulders trembled, and she took half a step back. "Sister... Sister, I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have tried to wipe it for you!"
"But Sister, I really don’t smell bad anymore..."
"It was just before, when Mom and Dad locked me in the basement. I couldn’t shower or change my clothes, and I could only eat spoiled food, so..."
"But that’s all in the past now."
Tears welled in Mia Grant’s eyes as she lowered her head, looking wronged yet forbearing.
Her words caused an uproar in the previously silent classroom.
"What’s going on?"
"A plot twist?!"
"Holy crap! I know she’s the fake heiress, but locking her in the basement is too much, isn’t it?"
"Exactly! So what if she’s not a real heiress? She’s still a human being! How could the Grant family do something like that?!"
Mia Grant’s sleeve was still dripping. The thick coffee ran down from her cuff to her fingertips, finally dripping onto her shoe.
She stood alone at the front of the classroom, under the scrutiny of everyone’s gaze, her fingers twisting helplessly.
She looked a complete mess, but her current predicament couldn’t hide her radiance. She was still so beautiful it was hard to look away.
Hearing the faint condemnations aimed at Serena Grant from the back rows, Mia Grant raised a hand to wipe a tear from the corner of her eye, but inwardly, she was deathly calm.
’She even felt a little like laughing.’
Meeting Serena Grant’s shocked gaze, Mia Grant’s lips curved into a subtle smile. Her eyes seemed to say, "Sister, don’t challenge my profession with your hobby."
Before entering the room, Mia Grant hadn’t planned on solving the problem this way. She had really wanted to splash that can of coffee in her face. But Serena Grant just had to challenge her at her own game.
’Well... alright then.’
’So we’re competing on who’s the better green tea, huh?’
’You’ve got to be kidding me.’
’No exaggeration, if you put her and Serena Grant’s skill levels in a video game, they wouldn’t even be in the same matchmaking pool.’
’Serena Grant wouldn’t even stand a chance of facing her.’
’The gap between them was like the national team demolishing a group of elementary schoolers.’
’And she still dared to pull these tricks on me.’
’That wave wasn’t an apology. It was a message: "You still have a lot to learn, sister."’
"No, everyone, it’s not like that! My sister is very good to me. When I was locked in the basement, she even brought me food."
Turning her head, she looked at the stunned Serena Grant, her voice choking with emotion. "Sister, don’t be angry. I’ll be good."
"I even obediently picked up and ate the custard bun you threw on the floor for me in the basement last time."
Her words sent shockwaves through the room.
"What?!"
"I thought Serena Grant was so innocent! She has such a pure-looking face, I can’t believe she’s so vicious!"
"Throwing food on the ground to feed her sister? Even if she’s not her real sister, you shouldn’t treat someone like that, right?"
"You wouldn’t even feed a dog like that! This is just humiliating!"
"But who would lock their daughter in the basement for no reason? Maybe it was Mia Grant’s fault."
"Yes, it was my fault. I really liked the bracelet Mom gave Sister. I thought it was pretty, so I just picked it up to have a look... I don’t know who broke it afterward, but I was in the wrong. I shouldn’t have touched my sister’s things without permission. It’s only right that she punish me."
Mia Grant wasn’t lying.
According to the original plot, the villainess smashed the Grant family’s ancestral bracelet and framed the female lead. In the end, her scheme was exposed, and the Grant parents locked her in the basement to reflect on her actions.
However, she hadn’t done that.
It was truly unclear who had broken the bracelet; it was already in pieces when she went to look at it.
Before she could even flee the scene, Serena Grant and a maid came in and caught her red-handed.
The maid told the Grant parents that she had broken it and added that Serena Grant could testify to it.
The Grant parents had asked Serena Grant about it, and her answer was ambiguous. She didn’t say outright that it was Mia, but her stammering and evasive eyes were the only answer they needed.
Thus, because of Serena Grant’s "testimony," her explanations were useless, no matter how much she tried.
Although the process was a little different from the original novel, with a slight change, the outcome was still the same.
’Thinking about it now, it makes sense. The villainess being locked in the basement and then dying a miserable death was a major plot point. Of course the plot would correct itself; otherwise, it couldn’t continue.’
"Oh my god!"
Someone gasped.
"How could Serena Grant be like that!"
In an instant, the tables had turned. Serena Grant became the main target of everyone’s condemnation.
Serena Grant was left speechless, unable to defend herself, because everything Mia Grant said was... true.
"Stop pretending to be so innocent!" A friend of Serena Grant’s couldn’t stand it anymore, standing up and shoving Mia Grant hard.
Mia Grant lost her footing and stumbled, falling to the ground.
"You stole Serena’s parents and brother, and now you’re stealing her boyfriend! You’re just a fake heiress who’s usurped someone else’s identity! Stop acting!"
"But... Mom and Dad were the ones who brought me home from the orphanage. I never tried to usurp my sister’s identity. They always told me I was just a substitute... I didn’t steal anything from my sister."
No one had expected this to be the truth. When they saw the online posts, they had assumed it was some cliché life-swap drama, which was why they found Mia Grant, the fake heiress, so detestable.
But as it turned out, she had just been adopted...
Even if she wasn’t a true heiress and had no blood relation to the Grant family, as an adopted child, she was still the Grant family’s daughter.
It wasn’t something Mia Grant could have chosen as a child.
"As for my sister’s boyfriend... I don’t know who you’re talking about... Do you mean her fiancé? Isn’t he still abroad? I’ve barely even seen him a few times, so how could I possibly steal him?"
"!!!"
"Serena Grant has a fiancé?!"
Serena Grant’s friend choked on her words. "What nonsense are you spouting! Serena’s boyfriend is Felix Sinclair!"
"That name sounds familiar... Oh, is that the male student I helped take to the school nurse’s office this morning?"
"You, you, you... You’re still pretending! You dare say you don’t know Felix Sinclair?!"
"I do recognize his face. His younger brother and I were deskmates in high school."
"Sister, am I not allowed to know his younger brother...? I’m sorry. I’ll stop contacting Ian Sinclair when I get back."
"..." The crowd’s gaze on Serena Grant grew even more complicated.
But it wasn’t over yet.
Mia Grant had no intention of letting Serena Grant off the hook so easily.
’She continued her assault.’
"But..." A look of confusion filled Mia Grant’s eyes. "I don’t think Felix Sinclair is one of my sister’s two fiancés."
Two fiancés?
The gossiping crowd instantly went wild.
