I Get A Random New Occupation Every Week-Chapter 2547 - 2548: He’s Not a Kid Anymore
Chapter 2547: Chapter 2548: He’s Not a Kid Anymore
Lin Yi’s words left the few people in the kitchen dumbfounded.
It took them several seconds to regain their composure.
"Are you saying Master Liu’s soup doesn’t taste good?"
"That’s not what I meant." Lin Yi explained with a smile:
"It’s quite decent, just not up to my standards."
"Brother, are you a chef too?" Liu Changyuan asked.
"Not really, I just cook occasionally at home."
"If you just cook occasionally, then we have to discuss this situation today."
"Exactly." A junior chef chimed in:
"Our Master Liu once cooked dishes for a state banquet, and now here you are, occasionally cooking, questioning his skills. Isn’t that a bit off?"
Lin Yi chuckled and didn’t bother explaining further.
"Everyone has different tastes. There’s really nothing worth arguing over."
With that, Lin Yi ladled out a portion of the broth and placed it on the gas stove.
He then added some dried orange peel, fennel, and a bit of animal fat, simmering on low heat to allow the flavors to meld together.
In the meantime, Lin Yi began to prepare the cabbage.
The technique for this was relatively simple, and since it was for his family, there wasn’t too much emphasis on perfection.
Lin Yi worked quickly and efficiently, his movements swift and precise, leaving everyone in the kitchen staring in astonishment.
They had initially assumed Lin Yi was just an ordinary househusband.
But upon seeing his knife skills on full display, none of them could remain composed.
Leaving everything else aside, just those knife skills alone were impossible to master without at least ten years of experience.
Within twenty minutes, Lin Yi had completed all the steps.
Finally, he used a spoon to ladle out a bit of the broth he had simmered, tasted it, and nodded in satisfaction before pouring it over the cabbage.
Everyone marveled at the cabbage leaves blooming like flowers.
The staff in the kitchen were all stunned, whispering amongst themselves incessantly.
Even though many of the ingredients were pre-prepared, to be able to make a low-budget version of "Boiled Cabbage" in such a short amount of time was not something an average person could accomplish.
Meanwhile, Lin Yi’s white rice and lean meat porridge, along with a few other hot dishes, were ready, and he moved on to the final step of packing everything into containers.
"Timing’s just right. I’ll head out now."
Lin Yi waved his hand to say goodbye and left the kitchen.
As they watched Lin Yi leave, the kitchen staff exchanged glances.
"Master Sun, judging by his knife skills, he seems to have some talent, and even the way he cooks isn’t typical."
"Indeed, there’s some substance to him." Sun Changyuan nodded and said:
"But isn’t he just a househusband? How could he be so skilled at cooking?"
"Do you think he might be bluffing?" a young chef speculated. "Knife skills don’t necessarily mean the food will taste good; they’re two different concepts."
"That’s easy enough to solve. He left behind a little bit of the broth earlier—just taste it and we’ll know."
Saying this, the kitchen staff all gathered around as Liu Changyuan scooped out a small portion of the broth with a spoon and tasted it.
"Holy crap!"
"What is it? Is it delicious or awful?"
"Even when I helped cook for a state banquet, I’ve never had such delicious broth!"
...
Carrying the packed meals, Lin Yi headed toward the hospital.
But just as he arrived at the entrance, he saw a brown Cayenne parked outside the hospital.
Though the car wasn’t cheap, it wasn’t considered particularly exclusive in Yanjing.
What really caught Lin Yi’s attention was the people stepping out of the car.
A man and a woman—the man looked to be in his fifties, while the woman appeared younger, wearing black sunglasses, sheer black stockings, and carrying an air of elegance despite her age. Her demeanor had a certain charm.
Lin Yi didn’t recognize the woman driving the car, but he knew who the man was.
Lin Jingzhan.
Lin Yi scratched his head, curious about the woman’s identity. The obvious flirtation between them felt somewhat improper.
Ring ring ring—
At that moment, Lin Yi’s phone rang.
Funnily enough, it was Lin Jingzhan calling.
Lin Yi guessed he probably couldn’t find his way and had called to ask for directions.
"Where are you? How’s Mi Li doing now?"
"I’m right behind you. She’s doing well."
"Huh? Behind me?"
Lin Jingzhan turned around abruptly, spotting Lin Yi about a dozen meters away behind him.
"Went out to buy food?"
"She wanted to drink my soup, so I cooked some for her and bought some lunch as well."
"Then let’s head in together."
At this point, the woman standing beside Lin Jingzhan gave Lin Yi a curious look.
Likewise, Lin Yi was curious about her identity and asked:
"Who’s she?"
"Umm... just an ordinary lady in black stockings."
The same question came from the middle-aged woman:
"Who’s he?"
"My son."
The middle-aged woman froze, her expression turning displeased:
"You said you didn’t have kids!"
"He’s already this age, born long ago, so it doesn’t count as a kid anymore."
"Scumbag!"
The middle-aged woman cursed angrily, grabbed her bag, and stormed off.
As she passed Lin Yi, she sneered at him as well:
"Young scumbag!"
Lin Yi: ???
"My mom’s still here; being so brazen isn’t great, is it?"
"I can’t help it. Ever since I got off the plane, she’s been trailing me." Lin Jingzhan said with a cigarette in his mouth:
"Don’t underestimate me because of my age. My charm’s no less than it was years ago—makes me quite proud."
"I don’t mind you being a flirt. Just don’t end up with a second child."
"Relax, I’m principled. I’d never do anything to betray your mom." Lin Jingzhan said:
"I’m a loyal man—better than you, for sure."
Lin Yi wanted to retort but couldn’t find the right angle, so he switched the topic:
"Where did you just come from?"
"I was resting in Korea. Then your mom told me Mi Li gave birth, so I came over."
"Korea?"
"There’s a temporary base there. When we retreated back then, that’s where we went directly." Lin Jingzhan explained:
"If we had been just one day later, I guess we’d have ended up in the Middle East and wouldn’t have been able to make it here this quickly."
"Is Poker’s team all okay? Was anyone injured?"
"Not at all. There aren’t many organizations that dare pick a fight with us."
Lin Yi instinctively nodded. "Any updates recently about Mammon?"
Lin Jingzhan shook his head. "They’ve gone quiet, but their veil of mystery was lifted during this incident. In the future, more of their secrets will undoubtedly be uncovered. It’s unlikely they’ll be able to remain enigmatic for much longer."
"After a short break, you guys will head back to the island, right?"
"Almost. This incident was an unusual one for the world. Now that things have settled down, we should return to our usual routines." Lin Jingzhan said:
"Don’t stress—on the island, the Yanlong Team can handle things. If needed, we’ll step in to assist. For now, focus on your family; even if the sky falls, it’s not your concern."
